Rhea's Pov

“A… Alaric.” I stammered, staring wide eyed at the man under me. Alaric’s eyes were locked on mine, frozen, wide with disbelief. His mouth was slightly open, hovering just beneath my nipple. Oh god.

A flush rushed up my neck so fast I swore lava was spilling out of my ears. My skin turned flame red. I scrambled upright so fast I nearly elbowed him in the face in the process. My hair whipped into my eyes as I stood up straight, tugging my dress back into place and clutching his jacket tighter around myself like it could erase what had just happened.

Alaric remained on the ground, still lying there in shock, his arms sprawled beside him, his eyes still wide and blinking like he was trying to wake up from a dream, or a very detailed fantasy.

“I… I’m so sorry.” I stammered, running both hands down the front of my dress to smooth out the nonexistent wrinkles, “That was… I didn’t mean… It wasn’t on purpose!”

He blinked again, finally sitting up with an audible exhale, “What...

Rhea's Pov The entire boardroom froze as the two handcuffed men stumbled inside, their clothes disheveled, faces sweaty with desperation and fear. I watched the blood drain from Mr. Rutherford’s face as he locked eyes with them. His reaction told me everything I needed to know. He knew them, but he was going to pretend he didn’t. Just as I expected.“What is the meaning of this?” He snapped, his voice shaking with poorly masked rage. The two men dropped to their knees in front of him.“Mr. Rutherford, please.” The shorter one sobbed, “You said if anything happened, you’d protect us. You said everything would be fine!”Rutherford drew back, blinking in feigned confusion, “What on earth are you talking about? I’ve never seen these men in my life. Miss Thorne, I think you’ve been deceived.”I leaned back in my chair and crossed my legs, watching the show unfold with cool amusement.“Take them away.” Rutherford barked toward the officers, anger seeping into his voice, “They’re clearly he

Rhea's Pov “I'll be letting go of a few people right here and right now.” I announced with a closed eye smile. My words landed like thunder, cracking across the smooth surface of their arrogance. The air in the boardroom shifted. It started with the usual, the murmurs, the scoffs, the huffed laughter of those who thought I was bluffing. That I was playing dress-up in my father’s empire. That I didn’t have the teeth to bite. They were wrong. “Letting go of people?” Mr. Dennis scoffed, his voice dripping with disbelief, “And what right do you think you have to make such calls?” Mr Rutherford started, “Miss Thorne, you are new here so you may not know. Most of the employees you're seeing here are employees who have been working in this company a few years or even months after it was created. We are all old here, so there's no way that…” “I’m the CEO.” I answered, my voice sharp but calm, like the edge of a scalpel, “And with full authority granted by the board’s emergency c

Rhea's Pov Three weeks later and there was not a single explosion. There was no scandal, no setbacks apart from work. It had been quiet which was shocking. It seemed like Ginny and Kevin had disappeared from the public eye. Rumors swirled, but none stuck. Perhaps they were regrouping. Perhaps they were licking their wounds. Or perhaps, if I was lucky, they were finally smart enough to accept defeat. But that was very unlikely. In the meantime, I had more pressing matters to deal with. Namely: the company. And school. Balancing both was like juggling flaming knives while riding a unicycle across a tightrope. Over shark-infested waters and blindfolded. At first, it had seemed simple enough. Show up. Be in charge, make smart decisions. Fire idiots. Impress investors. But reality laughed in my face. Running a business, especially one as large and entangled as Thorne International, was not for the weak. Meetings, paperwork, staff changes, endless consultations with the legal and

Rhea's Pov“Who do you think he is?” I whispered, my voice barely above the wind.Alaric exhaled slowly, his jaw clenched, “I have no idea. But I intend to find out.” He turned to me then, his gaze steady, “He doesn't seem like a petty criminal, Rhea. He’s someone powerful and dangerous.”I nodded faintly, my throat dry, “You don't need to tell me that.” Everything about that man felt wrong, the way he talked, the way he moved, even the calm in his voice when he said he killed someone. My skin was still crawling. Without saying a word, I stepped forward toward the hedges, something inside me urging me to check, to see if the man had been bluffing or not. Alaric followed close behind.“Rhea, what are you doing?” He asked cautiously.“He said he killed the person I was following.” I murmured, pushing aside some overgrown bushes with the side of my leg, “I need to know if it’s true. I need to see.”“Be careful.”I nodded, my heart hammering, and kept walking. The flashlight on Alari

Rhea's Pov My heels dug into the wet grass, Alaric’s footsteps crunching close behind mine. The air was thick with smoke and tension, and the further we ran, the darker it got. The manor lights didn’t reach this far. Just trees, a gravel path, and the eerie glint of moonlight reflecting off the lake. The figure was fast. They moved like someone who knew the terrain. Maybe there were the ones who planted whatever it was that blew up the manor! We followed the path back toward the lake, but the figure had already vanished. I slowed my pace, panting softly as I reached the edge of a stone fence. The wind tugged at my hair and Alaric’s jacket wrapped around me, but the chill running down my spine had nothing to do with the breeze.“Where did they go?” I murmured.“There’s nowhere to go from here…” Alaric stepped up beside me, squinting into the trees, “This is a dead end.”My eyes darted around. There was no one. Just rocks, shadows, and the moon’s reflection coming from the lake. I look
