Ginny gently held his arm, her voice trembling, “I just… I don’t know if I should say this, Kevin… I’m probably overthinking, but… do you think Rhea’s acting out again? Maybe… maybe because you spent the day with me?”
As she spoke, tears slid silently down her cheeks.
Kevin quickly wrapped an arm around her to comfort her, “Ah, you’re right. That’s it. I almost fell for her trick again. Damn it.”
“She’s always like this—making everything about her. If she wants to disappear, fine. I’m done chasing her moods. ” Kevin said and kissed Ginny’s forehead.
“Hahahaha… hahahaha…” I laughed hysterically to myself, tears falling dry my eyes like a waterfall. In the end, I lost. I lost everything! I continued laughing until I noticed how white my hands were.
“What…?” My voice trembled, this time audible only to myself. “What’s happening to me…?”
The edges of my vision blurred. My body was growing lighter, more transparent. I was leaving.
“No, no, not yet!” I cried, “I can’t leave like this! Not when they’re still laughing! Still living! After everything they did to me?”
Tears of helplessness streamed down my face, vanishing before they reached the ground. I clutched my chest as a sharp pull yanked me backwards, like gravity itself had changed direction.
“Please…” I begged, “Give me one more chance. Just one. I’ll right my wrongs. I’ll make them regret everything. Please!!” I begged as everything around me faded.
The world went black.
And then—
I gasped and choked, my lungs seizing as liquid flooded my mouth. My eyes snapped and I choked immediately, on water. I flailed around, struggling to get up and when I was able to, I stared at the scene in front of me with shock, my mouth wide open.
"What the hell is this?!" I murmured under my breath; I was inside a huge pool, people were standing around me, some were laughing, some sent mocking looks to me, while others just ignored me.
The air, the voices, the cold water clinging to my skin… everything was real. Somehow, impossibly, I had returned to the moment many years ago??
Oh my god. I really got a second chance!
I remembered now—this was the day I spoke to Kevin for the first time. After I’d accidentally fallen into the school pool, I thought everyone was laughing at me.
But Kevin had taken off his jacket, knelt beside me, and said, “Are you okay?” He looked like a hero to me in that moment.
After that, he showed up every day. Talking to me. Bringing drinks. Helping with homework. He said he liked how “different” I was from other girls. That I was “pure.”
Three months later, he confessed his feelings. I believed him.
But years later, I found out the truth—he had approached me because I was the Wen family heiress. It was never about love. It was about power.
And now that I looked back… maybe Ginny had already started her little games back then. She always showed up whenever Kevin and I were together, all sweet smiles and innocent touches. I thought she was just clingy.
But now? Now I know better.
I slowly climbed out of the pool, the water sliding down my skin as my clothes clung to me, revealing a version of me they’d never seen. I glanced around, gauging everyone's reaction. They had stopped laughing and were staring at me in shock.
Well, I wouldn't blame them. I was the president of the ‘wear baggy clothes group’ and I never showed my body or curves in public. Also, Ginny had always told me that Kevin liked girls who covered their body and left nothing to the imagination and even today that I came to confess, I wore a long oversized gown, put my hair up into a ponytail and wore my big framed glasses.
Kevin took a step forward, a smug curl playing on his lips. “Need a hand?” he asked, the same charming smile he used to wear when he wanted something.
My eyes flicked to his face—so sure of himself, so convinced that I still revolved around him.
I let out a soft chuckle. It started small, but quickly grew louder, darker. Tilting my head, water dripping down my face, I met his eyes with calm fury.
“Kevin,” I said softly. “I used to think you were kind. Turns out you’re just a parasite in a suit.”
His smile froze. “What the hell are you talking about?”
I stepped closer, unbothered by my dripping clothes.
“Everyone saw what happened. I didn’t fall—Ginny pushed me. And now you think I came here to humiliate myself just to get your attention?”
The courtyard fell into dead silence. Kevin’s grin faltered, his confidence cracking.
“You’re insane,” he snapped. “You’ve liked me for years! If you want my attention, you better—”
“Attention?” I cut him off with a laugh. “You’re right. I did like you. Three years of blind, naive affection. Three years wasted on someone who only cared about my last name.”
His eyes narrowed. “So now what? You think you’re better than me?”
“No,” I said, voice steady as a blade. “Now I know I am.”
He stared, stunned, like he’d been slapped.
I smiled, but it didn’t reach my eyes.
“Game over, Kevin.”
“W… What?”
Rhea's Pov“When you say, ‘rival the Montaigne’, what exactly do you mean by that?” I questioned.“Oh.” Carmen let out a small laugh, “I mean it literally. You might not know this, but my background is not little at all. I come from a long line of people who are related to the president of Imperial City.”“Huh?!” I gasped, then promptly covered my mouth with my hands. I didn't mean to interrupt but I was too shocked not to, “I… I'm sorry I…”“No, it's fine. Not a lot of people know this since I haven't appeared in public for a long time. I'm sure people think that the Heiress of the Valerius Family has disappeared entirely.” Carmen finished with a knowing smirk. My heart hammered against my ribs. “V… Valarius? Wait,” I stammered, my voice barely a whisper, “The… the heiress you’re talking about. Is it… is it you?” I had to clutch the edge of the sleek, expensive desk to keep from pitching forward. My legs felt like rubber, and the blood had rushed from my face.Carmen’s smirk widened
Rhea's Pov Should I tell her? Should I not? Currently, I need all the help I can get. “If you don't want to say…” “No. It's fine. It's not going to be hidden for long anyways. Actually, we had an accident and we were all taken to the hospital. Neveah, Laziel and I are fine, same with my husband, Alaric. However, he lost his memories, he can't remember anything about me, or the children. I don't know the extent of his memory loss but I know that it's pretty bad.” I explained, pinching myself to keep the tears from spilling again. “If it was only the memory loss, I would have found a way but… Isabelle Montaigne, a woman who is in love with him and also his secretary has claimed that she is his fiancée and I am a stalker who wants to claim a relationship with him. No matter what I say, Alaric doesn't believe me. I want to believe so badly that Alaric wouldn't do anything to hurt me but at this point, I'm not even sure.” Carmen’s eyes widened, and she gasped softly, pressing a hand t
Rhea's Pov I pulled Neveah closer, my eyes on the woman in front of me. Now that I was dry and feeling warm, I was able to observe everything about her much more clearly. This woman was someone I'd never seen before. I had no idea who she was and yet, she was able to recognise me so quickly. Under the rain, she called my name in a soft way that made me want to talk to her about every single thing I have faced in both my lifetimes. Since I already remembered everything that I forgot after my coma, it wasn't hard to recount it. The only question I had was why this woman was treating us so kindly and what her agenda is. Is she with Isabelle? Did Isabelle send her to get rid of me completely?“Are you comfortable?” The woman suddenly questioned, her voice breaking me out of my thoughts. “Ah? Yes, yes thank you.” I responded with a slight stammer. After I finished crying, she suddenly invited us to her home. I wanted to refuse since I barely knew her but at this point, beggars couldn't
Alaric's Pov “I hope you don't regret it.” The woman's voice kept on echoing in my head, it was the only thing I could hear. Even after she left, for some reason, I could still smell her scent, her tears, her anger. She hadn't broken down and cried, but she cried. The tears that gathered at the corner of her eyes but refused to fall because of her will made me even more confused. Did she really know me? Or was it as Isabelle said? “Alaric.” Isabelle called out my name and I turned around to meet her eyes. Instantly I noticed that it was different from the eyes of that woman. So much different. “Are you okay? You…” “You don't need to concern yourself with me.” I cut her off, my voice coming out cold and flat. I couldn't help it. The scene that had just played out was swirling in my mind, and I needed space to process it.Isabelle flinched, but she quickly masked it, “Alaric, I understand you're confused. But please, don't believe her lies. She’s trying to manipulate you because o
Rhea's Pov A short, humourless sound escaped my throat, “An hour,” I murmured, shaking my head, "Well, Isabelle really is leaving us no choice, is she? She doesn't waste any time." I pushed myself to my feet, the cold, hard floor now feeling like a welcome mat to a new, terrifying reality. “Tell Miss Montaigne I’m happy to oblige.” I said, walking towards the nurse and taking the pathetic brown bag from her hand, “We’ll be gone. She can have the room.” The nurse blinked, clearly shocked, “You… you’re leaving?” She stammered. I managed a faint, chilling smile, “Oh, yes. I’m leaving. We're you expecting me to throw a tantrum and cry about not wanting to leave? Oh, don't worry. I'm not crazy nor stupid enough to do that. So you don't have to worry about calling security, we'll leave on our own.” I gestured towards the small remote she held in her hand. I didn't know what it was for but clearly, it had to do with if we refused to leave. I turned back to Laziel and Neveah, hol
Rhea's Pov The swing door of Alaric’s room closed behind me with a soft, final thud, a mark that clearly defined the end of an arc. But I didn't cry. My smile, which I had plastered on my face for Isabelle’s benefit, felt stretched tight over a scream I refused to let out. I strode back down the white, sterile corridor, my bare feet silent on the ground. The desperate energy from before was gone, replaced by a cold kind of calm. Although Alaric’s temporary insanity was Isabelle’s opportunity, it wasn't the end of anything. I pushed open the door to Neveah's and Laziel's ward. Laziel was a coiled spring of anxiety, pacing the small space near the window, his hands running frantically through his dark hair. Neveah was seated on the edge of the other bed, smaller and quieter than usual, her gaze fixed on the floor. The moment I entered, Laziel spun around, his eyes wide with frantic hope, "Rhea! Thank goodness. How is he? Did you see him? Is he okay?" He rushed out. I walked to the f
