Alaric's POV

Marcus frowned but didn’t speak.

“I need you to do this for me.” I continued, “Not because she’s my fiancée. But because she’s mine. And I’ll be damned before I let any of my enemies lay a finger on her while I’m too busy fighting ghosts and power games.”

His jaw clenched, “You don’t trust anyone else for this?”

“No one else is good enough.” I said, “You’re the best I’ve got, Marcus. And if anyone can keep her safe, it’s you.”

He looked down, hands balled into fists at his sides, “I’ve bled with you, Master Alaric. Buried bodies with you. Lied, fought, and survived beside you. Leaving you feels very wrong.”

“I know.” I said quietly, “But this is how you protect me now. Not with bullets or fists. With vigilance. With silence.”
