LOGINDYLAN'S POV — ELEVEN YEARS AGOFor the next few days, I avoided Ryan as much as possible. I told myself it was because of my injured ribs, but the truth was that I didn't know how to face him after what I had overheard in the courtyard. I kept remembering the way he had spoken about the throne and how easily he had considered the possibility of treating me as an obstacle. The thought bothered me more than I wanted to admit because, no matter how much we argued, I had never imagined a future in which my brother would genuinely want to see me fall.Father eventually summoned us both to the training grounds, where Oscar was waiting with several instructors. He had been responsible for preparing us for the royal academy assessment, and from the serious expression on his face, I could tell that our training was about to become more demanding."You have three months before the assessment," Oscar announced as we stood before him. "That may seem like enough time, but neither of you is ready f
DYLAN'S POVELEVEN YEARS AGOFor the first time in months, I was beginning to believe things might finally get better between Ryan and me.He had improved considerably since Father ordered Oscar to focus on his training, and the change was impossible to miss. His sword movements had become faster and more precise, his footwork was steadier, and he no longer struggled to maintain his balance during a fight. Even Oscar had started praising him, although he still corrected Ryan more harshly than he corrected me.I was genuinely happy for my brother. Watching him improve made me hopeful that Father would finally acknowledge his efforts, and perhaps, once the constant comparisons stopped, Ryan and I could return to being the brothers we used to be.That hope grew stronger when Father announced that we would be demonstrating our swordsmanship at a gathering of nobles and military commanders. It was an important occasion, and I knew Ryan had been looking forward to proving himself.I had rec
DYLAN'S POVTHIRTEEN YEARS AGOFor the next few days, Ryan barely spoke to me. Whenever I approached him, he found an excuse to leave, and when we happened to be in the same room, he acted as though I wasn't there. At first, I thought he was still upset about our father's decision to give me advanced sword lessons, so I stopped talking about my training whenever he was around. It didn't help. One afternoon, I found him in the courtyard, practising with his wooden sword. He had been at it for so long that his movements were becoming slower, but he refused to stop even when Oscar told him to take a break."Ryan, come and eat with me," I called from the steps, holding a plate of pastries I'd taken from the kitchen. "I saved some for you."He didn't look at me. "I'm busy.""You can eat while you rest.""I said I'm busy, Dylan."I stared at him for a moment, then placed the plate on the steps and approached him. "Are you still angry with me? Because if this is about the lessons, I can ask
DYLAN'S POVTHIRTEEN YEARS AGOI didn't understand why Father had spoken to Ryan that way. I was only nine, and to me, winning a sword fight meant I had done something worth celebrating. I didn't know that my victory would become something Ryan would remember for years, or that the smile on my face would be the last thing he wanted to see.Father carried me towards the palace, praising my grip and the way I had attacked Ryan without hesitation. I was so excited that I kept talking about how I would become the greatest swordsman in Drakoria, but when I looked over his shoulder, I saw Ryan still standing on the training field with his wooden sword lying at his feet.He wasn't crying, and he didn't look angry either. He simply stared at the ground while Oscar stood beside him, looking as though he had just witnessed something terrible."Father, can Ryan come with us?" I asked, tugging at his shirt. "I want to show him the sword I got for my birthday. Maybe we can practise together again
EVEYLN'S POVMy heart felt like it was going to burst out of my chest. I mean… Why's my last resort this asshole to begin with?“I want to help you get your revenge and claim the kingdom.”He let out a small laugh as he sheathed his dagger and returned it to his waist belt. “You… Help me get my revenge and claim the kingdom… How exactly would you do that?”Yeah… I've actually been nothing, but a blockhead all this while. Because, tell me why I didn't see this question coming, and I'm just staring at him like a real dumbass?“I can become your eyes and ears inside these castle walls while you're away. And in the background, I'll be helping you gather supporters of your cause.”“Ryan sent you to do this, didn't you?” he said, and I got mad and pulled him to a well lighted area so that we could both see each other's faces.“Do I look like I'm happy staying here, or so I have any reason to be Ryan's lapdog?” I snapped at him.“Shush…” he placed a finger on his lip, while keeping a straigh
EVEYLN'S POVJust kidding. Of course I get a pull towards him, but not enough to want to fuck him despite everything I'd seen so far. I kept my cool all through the time we spent at the library. I wasn't really interested in the book I picked, so I occasionally just took a sneak peek at Dylan. He looked so adorable the way he held up the book he was reading, and the concentration he gave it. This guy at that point was just oozing Damien's vibe violently. Seeing how he was yesterday has made me so interested in him. I wanted to know everything about him. Know why he killed that woman in his camp, and why he got hard doing it. But how do I even ask?“You've been staring at me for more than an hour now,” he muttered in a small tone, eyes fixed on his book and my heart skipped a beat. “You can say what's on your mind.”“It's…” I stuttered, heart slamming hard against my chest. “It's nothing.”“I'm giving you the one chance you're ever going to get,” he continued, then spared me a gaze.
