Emma’s POV

I reached home before him.

The house was quiet—too quiet, actually. The only sound was the ticking of the wall clock and the sound of the heater. I changed into my nightwear, a soft grey satin robe, and curled up on the couch with a cup of tea. My hair was still pinned loosely, and my makeup had been wiped off. I didn’t want any trace of the auction left on me.

But inside, I was still buzzing.

My painting sold. One million dollars. He really paid that without thinking twice. Everyone must have felt so envious of the artist.

And no one knew it was me.

I stared at the candle on the table, my fingers tightening around the cup. I wanted to see what he would do with the painting after he got it. Maybe he's going to bring it home or maybe he's taking it to the office, I don't even know.
