Zara’s POV

I stood there for a long moment, too stunned at his statement to react. Did he just think of me as some random hooks?

I was glaring at the room like it had personally betrayed me,the bed was a mess, sheets were twisted and pillows were off the bed. The faint smell of heat and sex lingering in the air, an evidence of myself betrayal.

That I had lost control and let some random dude, I didn’t even know his name touch me.

I bent down and grabbed my panties from the floor, where it was discarded. Yanking it up my thighs with more force than necessary.

My hands trembled with fury as I adjust my dress down my thighs, I reached for my heels, shoved my feet into them without sitting down.

I was seconds away from screaming bloody murderer.

My gaze locked on the nightstand, I wish it didn’t. The drawer was still open, and the cash he talked about was sitting pretty inside.

My chest tightened with more annoyance.

“Great, you’ve got to be fucking kidding me.” I hissed.

The sight of the money already felt like an insult to me, I quickly looked away. Before I shred them to pieces.

Or should I?

I shook my head to get rid of the idea.

“What was he feeling like though, some hot shot?” My pulse pounding in my ears as anger, alcohol and exhaustion burns through my veins.

“I wanted the sex.” I scoffed.

I walked over to the drawer, searched it and picked up a jotter and a pen.

I wrote boldly.

“I’m not some girl you pay to disappear. This should teach you some manners.” I dropped it on the bed.

I carefully picked up every one of his clothing, then to the tie and walked out the door.

The nerve of him.

Absolute audacity.

Treating women like trash, I will gladly return the favor.

The hallway felt colder than before, maybe I’m more sober now. Because the red light that once felt seductive now felt dull, the excitement had already faded away.

I dropped his clothes in a dumpster beside

I steadied myself, feeling proud of my little comeback.

The main floor swelled me whole the moment I stepped back in. Completely oblivious to what just happened to me. Music pulsed loudly, bodies were glued together worst than when I left, some were close to having sex, right on the dance floor.

I pushed through the crowd, which was difficult seeing that most of them are in their own worlds. I scanned the crowd as I moved…

A guy sucking on her strippers boobs. This place is a different world on its own, playing dirty in an alluring way.

…until I spotted Rosa.

She was near the bar now, leaning against it, her gaze was darting around like she has been searching for something or other someone. Until her gaze found mine, the relief was visible on her face.

“There you are!” She said. “Where did you disappear to? I’ve been looking for you forever.”

“Forever? That’s too exaggerated, don’t you think?” I force a smile.

“Well, you were gone for quite some time.” She said in her defense.

“I went to the bathroom, needed to pee and take a break.” I shrugged.

“And here I was thinking you’ve gone to get layed with some dude.” She laughed, saying it as a joke.

But my blank look, made her laughter cut off halfway.

Her eyes widened, mouth dropped open.

“Wait,” she said slowly. “Did I just guess right?”

“Can we not do this here?” I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms.

Her face lit up like she just won the lottery.

“Oh my God. Oh my God.” She grabbed my arm.

“Lower your voice,” I hissed, glancing around. “Are you trying to announce it to the whole club?”

“I knew it. I knew it. You disappear for over an hour and came back looking like that, and I’m about to believe it was just the bathroom.” She completely ignored me, bouncing on her heels.

“I needed to pee, though.” I sighed.

“And apparently you peed on someone.” She shot back grinning sheepishly.

“Shut up.” I muttered, trying not to smile, but smile escape my lips anyway.

“No, absolutely not. You’re not escaping this, you owe me details girl.” Rosa gasped, dramatically clutching her chest as if in pain.

“Oh my God, there’s no details to give.” I palm faced myself. “It was a mistake.”

She leaned,”mistakes don’t usually leave people looking this worked up.” Her eyes sparkling as she speaks, she was having too much fun with this.

“I’m not.” I tried to defend, but my weak voice betrayed me. I won’t lie, I am drained. I’ve never enjoyed being banged as much as I did tonight.

Maybe it was the fact that it was a fling that made it more thrilling.

She raised an eyebrow, clearly not convinced. I rolled my eyes, trying to hide my smile as my mind brought back images of the moment.

“Okay, maybe a little.” I sighed.

She squealed softly and grabbed both my hands.

“I leave you alone for a moment in a masked club and this is what happens?”

“Rosa, please.” I shook my head slightly embarrassed.

“Fine, I’ll stop. But you’re not getting out it, at least the basics.” With that she dragged towards the dance floor.

The music swallowed us as we stepped back on the floor, Rosa moved immediately, her hips swaying, arms lifting to the rhythms of the beat. I let her pull me along, the beat slowly seeping back into my body.

She spun me around, forcing me to move, I danced with her, laughed when she did, letting the music blur the sharp experience I had a while ago.

It worked.

For a while, I forgot about my anger.

I was just Zara again. A girl in a club, moving to music, surrounded by noise and light and sweaty bodies.

By the time the night finally began to slow, my feet ached from wearing heels for too long and my head felt heavy again.

“I’m so wasted.” Rosa looped her arm through mine as we made our way out.

“Me too.” I admitted, clearly not just tipsy anymore.

“You had a great time tonight, yeah?” She slurred.

I nodded too tired to speak anymore.

Luckily, Matteo’s driver was on standby by. He assisted us into the car, and drove off, I was barely awake when we got home.

I barely made it up to my room, kicked off my shoes and dropped on my bed. I let the exhaustion claim me into darkness.

  • CLAIM ME, STEP-BROTHER.    Chapter 130

Zara’s POVIf wedding planning was chaos…A bachelorette party was complete insanity. By nine o’clock that evening, Sofia’s apartment had transformed into something I barely recognized.Pink decorations hung from every available surface. Music blasted through speakers. Champagne bottles sat chilling in buckets of ice.And somehow there were already six women dancing in the living room before the night had officially started.I stood near the kitchen island holding a drink and wondering how things had escalated so quickly.“This is your fault.”I pointed at Sofia. She looked absolutely stunning in a white satin dress and a ridiculous tiara that read Bride-to-Be.And then she grinned as she walked past me.“It absolutely is.”Then she pulled back and grabbed my wrist.“No standing.”“Sofia—”“No.”She started dragging me toward the crowd.“Tonigh

  • CLAIM ME, STEP-BROTHER.    Chapter 129

Zara’s POVBy the third day of wedding preparations, I was convinced weddings were secretly designed to torture everyone involved. Not even the bride but the people around the bride. Especially the bridesmaids and especially me. I stood in the middle of a luxury event hall while Sofia spun around in circles.Literally spinning like a child who had consumed too much sugar.“What do you think?”I looked around seeing that the room was already beautiful. White roses. Golden decorations. Crystal chandeliers. Soft lighting. Elegant tables. It looked like something from a magazine.“It looks perfect.”Sofia narrowed her eyes.“You didn’t look properly.”“I absolutely did.”“No.”She grabbed my arm.“You need to look emotionally.”I stared trying to hold back my laughter.“What does that even mean?”Orlando and Leo, who was standing nearby, immediately laughed.“Don’t ask.”“I asked that question six months ago.”“And?”His smile widened.“I still don’t know.”Sofia glared at him and he wise

  • CLAIM ME, STEP-BROTHER.    Chapter 128

Zara’s POVI had forgotten how terrifying wedding preparations could be. Now it wasn’t even my own wedding. I was talking about weddings in general.Especially when Sofia was the bride because Sofia approached wedding planning the same way military generals approached war. With spreadsheets. Schedules. Strategies. And absolutely no mercy.Which was how I found myself standing in the middle of an expensive bridal boutique at ten o’clock in the morning wondering where exactly my life had gone wrong.“Absolutely not.”Sofia pointed dramatically.“The sleeves are ugly.”The saleswoman visibly flinched and I covered my face.“Sofia.”“What?”“You can’t call them ugly.”“They are ugly.”The poor woman looked offended and I immediately smiled apologetically. Unfortunately, Sofia remained completely unbothered.Three dresses later, she was still unhappy, five dresses later, she became dramatic. Eight dresses later, she threatened to cancel the entire wedding.Nobody believed her, least of all

  • CLAIM ME, STEP-BROTHER.    Chapter 127

Zara’s POVFor a moment, I didn’t know what to say and I just simply stood there staring while he stared right back and then suddenly he laughed. He gave off a loud, disbelieving laugh.“No way.” He exclaimed running a hand through his hair.“No actual way.”I found myself laughing too, definitely from shock or partly from relief because out of all the people I expected to see behind Sofia’s apartment door, Leo definitely wasn’t one of them.Five years had changed him, helooked older and broader. And married too, he had a ring on his finger so I was guessing he was already. But still unmistakably Leo. Still carrying that same easy smile. Still looking like someone who couldn’t go ten minutes without talking.“It’s so good to see you again.”I smiled genuinely because deep down, it felt good.“Same here.”His grin widened and then he looked down directly at Alberto.

  • CLAIM ME, STEP-BROTHER.    Chapter 126

Zara’s POVThe moment I stepped out of the airport, Italy hit me like a memory I had spent years trying to bury even though the air felt different and warmer. Yet dangerously familiar.I stood beside my suitcase for a second longer than necessary, taking in the sounds around me. Italian voices filled the parking lot. Cars honked somewhere in the distance. A little girl laughed as she ran past her exhausted parents.Five years and somehow nothing had changed or maybe everything had.A loud squeal suddenly cut through my thoughts at that moment and I froze.“ZARA!”Before I could react, Sofia slammed into me and I nearly lost my balance.“Sofia!” She hugged me so tightly I could barely breathe and then she pulled away only to hug me again.“Oh my God.”She looked me over dramatically.“You actually came.”I laughed.“You invited me.”“You almost didn’t.”Well that was fair, because for months, I had considered cancelling every week, every day and sometimes every hour. But somehow I was

  • CLAIM ME, STEP-BROTHER.    Chapter 125

Zara’s POVI hated packing. It wasn't even because it was difficult. But because it gave me too much time to think and thinking was dangerous. Especially when the destination was back to Italy. The suitcase sat open on my bed, half-filled. I’d spent the last hour folding and unfolding the same sweater because my mind refused to focus. Italy even the word alone made my stomach twist.Five years, five whole years since I’d left. Five years since I’d boarded a plane with a broken heart and a secret growing inside me.Five years since I’d convinced myself I would never go back. Yet here I was, packing and preparing.Going anyway all because Sofia had somehow managed to wear down every excuse I came up with.I glanced toward the living room. He was sprawled on the floor coloring dinosaurs. His latest obsession involved drawing every species known to mankind.
