LOGINELEANOR’S POV:
Anderson nudged at me, but I couldn’t say a thing. He leaned in and saw where the function was holding— New York. The one city where I’d lost it all and hit rock bottom before this amazing man found me.
“It’s in New York. We could stay back and“—
“No.” I cut him off. I refused to be the one holding him back. After everything he was doing for me, including working tirelessly to clear my name, I couldn’t afford to be the one person who’d hold him back.
“We’ll go.” I could’ve sworn my voice cracked there, but that wasn’t just it. Immediately, the night everything had started flashed through my mind.
My plan for consummation, learning of my father’s death, seeing Robert get out of that car, the divorce, learning I signed it all away— every goddamn bad thing flashed through my mind like a bad dream, and I staggered, almost falling if Anderson hadn’t wrapped his arms around me to steady me.
I felt sparks travel through every single inch of my skin the moment I felt his touch. I pulled away instantly as I turned away from him. This was the closest we’d gotten physically since we got ‘married’. To everyone, we were the adorable married couple, and we tried to live up to that, but in private, we were just friends. Friends who worked together.
“I know it must be tough for you to return to New York, especially after everything. I’ve been preaching to you about moving on for some time now, but I really do understand if you don’t feel comfortable, and it’s fine. It’s step by step.” He told me as he planted his hand on my shoulder.
I gulped, my breath hitching. What on earth was going on with me? “Remember, Ellie, regardless of what happens, I’m always here for you.” That warmed me, and I smiled as I turned to him.
“I’ll get our plane tickets.” I told him, moving away as his hand came off my shoulder. I didn’t realise I was holding my breath till then. What sort of effect was this?
I ran my fingers through my hair as I hurriedly packed up. I was just stressed. The past few days had been hectic. That was it. That was all there was to it— it sounded like I was trying to make myself believe something that wasn’t real.

So far, the party was going well. Charity sections, donations, dances, drinking— so far, everything was going well, and I hadn’t been as scared or paranoid as I’d thought I’d be, but all this was because I knew I had Anderson by my side. My whole sense of comfort disappeared the moment he took the stage for his speech.
Turning to the side, I could’ve sworn I caught a glimpse of Robert, but when I looked again, he wasn’t there. I clenched my fists as I gulped my alcohol in a single go.
‘Stop imagining things, Eleanor. Robert’s not here.’
“… Many people assume I’m the mastermind behind every successful investment I’ve made, but then, there’s a saying: behind every successful man is a woman. Behind me is my dearest wife.” I felt every eye turn to me as I gulped, my heart racing as it thumped in my chest. “She convinced me to make that investment, and I’m so glad to see it grow. This success is as much mine as it is hers, so here’s to more success.” Everyone cheered, and I did my best to genuinely cheer, too. That was until I felt my skin crawl from the presence of the one who’d just come beside me, passing me the filthiest smile ever.
“You look stunning tonight, Elle.” In that raspy voice that I would once die for, my ex-husband, the bastard who’d ruined my life, smiled at me as he leaned in for a kiss on the cheeks, but I stepped away. I’d be damned if I let that sinner come near me.
“Excuse me.” I turned to leave, but he held my hand back, his eyes instantly turning to pleading ones.
“At least listen to me, Elle—“
“Eleanor. My name’s Eleanor.” I cut him off, doing my best not to show the disgust that was piling on my face.
The ribbon cutting was done, but Anderson was still up on stage. I didn’t want to do anything that’d ruin the moment, but this bastard—Robert—he was pushing me, and there was only so much I could do to restrain myself, especially now that he was holding on to my hand.
“I’ve missed you, El—Eleanor. Seeing you, all glamorous, your eyes glistening, you—“ once upon a time, I’d have killed to have Robert compliment me, but now, even his compliments felt like insults.
“Let go of me.” I murmured, trying to get free from him. I didn’t want to draw attention to us. Not at an event like this.
“Then just come with me. Please.” His voice reduced at the last word. “It’ll be quick. You know what effect you have on me, Eleanor. I’m dying to talk to you. Just five minutes. I only need five minutes to“—
I suddenly felt a hand on mine, and that hand seemed to cause Robert to shut the fuck up. Finally.
I raised my head to see Anderson, his side profile as marvellous as ever. Damn it. Focus, Eleanor.
“My wife said to let her go. Must she repeat herself, Mr Robert?” Anderson’s voice was so cold it sent shivers down my spine. How were these two even related?
“You should be ashamed of yourself. I’m your“— Before Robert could play the ‘I’m your nephew’ card, Anderson grabbed his hand, putting it off me as he pulled me to the side.
“You’re one to talk about being ashamed. Stay away from my wife, Mr Robert. I’m sure you wouldn’t want to cross the line.” This man was so different from the Anderson I used to chat with in conference rooms after our meetings were done.
This man was cold; his eyes looked so charming yet threatening. My gosh.
Robert nodded, taking a step back as he grabbed a glass of alcohol from the waiter, gulping it in an entire go. As he grabbed a fork, clinking the glass.
“Attention, everyone. I’ve got some important information. Something that’ll interest you all, so very deeply.” He announced in a loud voice.
He turned to Anderson and me in a threatening manner, but Anderson didn’t seem to be fazed.
“FME’s opening?” He scoffed. “I’ve got something that’ll interest the media more than that.” I felt my breath hitch.
~ EPILOGUE ~Months passed and everything got better than before. Eleanor and Sierra were rushed to the hospital. She was able to survive the fall.Sierra's pregnancy was still intact. She just got hit badly. The two couples sat together and talked about their ordeal. The houses were rebuilt, scars were healed."I thought I'd never see you all again." Tears shimmered in Sierra's eyes."I'm so glad to see you all again." Evan had gotten so big that Anderson had to look up in order to meet his eyes."Woah! Just a year apart and you are so grown. Imagine two years." Anderson laughed so hard."He's making history..." They all laughed.Eleanor's children had grown up. They went to their dream college, but Sierra made sure Eleanor didn't put them in their old school so that they wouldn't get bullied.Parties were being thrown in the house. Sierra didn't forget or hate parties even after she gave birth. She loved them just like she always did."Let's dance... woo." Loud music was playing in
SIERRA'S POV"Calm down, Eleanor." I tried to hold her down.Evan barged in just in time."Please, I need you to stop her. She's been so angry since she walked into this place, and then Roy came and... and everything ju... just became a mess." I broke down while trying to explain.Evan rushed into the office. "Get your filthy hands off her. You don't know how to treat a woman. You only know how to flirt with them." He cursed and grabbed him by the neck.Eleanor was released and she fell to the floor."Are you okay?" I rushed over to her, immediately forgetting that I had people fighting behind me.She quickly jerked up and stood on her feet."I am okay. I just want this son of a bitch to get fucked. Locked in a dungeon where people like you stay!" She was still cursing him and pointing fingers at him. This got Roy pissed and he tried to get back at her, but Evan held him down."One more word from you and you are going to hear things that you do not wish to hear," he threatened.I knew
ELEANOR'S POVI had sleepless nights trying to understand what exactly was going on with Roy. I cared to know if he was their family friend or a fool that came out of nowhere."You keep beating yourself up since yesterday. Would you love to share what the problem is, or you are just going to keep being angry?" Anderson had noticed my attitude right from yesterday when I got back from work."I just got to speak with Sierra, and all I heard was so fucking annoying. I don't even know how I got to hear that without throwing up my hands," I said to him with so much anger in me.He laughed. He laughed so loud that I got annoyed, and now I wanted to beat him up."What's funny about what I just said?" My jaw dropped."You are just so funny. You want to throw hands at your best friend. Oh please, say something else." He laughed more."Actually, I want to throw hands at a man. And I'm going to do that if the man doesn't hold himself down." I kept a serious face while I went ahead dressing. The
EVAN'S POVI wasn't going to take any shit from my mom, not now, not ever.I drove down to the house. I stormed into the house. The maids welcomed me, but all I was after was the bastard that wanted to control my mother."Where is my mother?" My hands were in my pockets, and I was furious."What is going on here?" My mom came out of the room with my cousin.I was glad she was here to see what her aunt went about doing."So, Mom, why did you send Roy to come to my house with groceries like we needed any of that?" I stood right in front of her with my eyes glued to hers."Not even a greeting, and you are questioning me? Have you lost your senses, Evan?" My mom was outraged too."Mom, I asked a fucking question. Do not let anyone hear us," I warned. My hands were already itching to start throwing things. I held myself back so they wouldn't say that I acted like my father. Sometimes it was just worth acting like him."Evan, you are talking to Mom....you have to calm down. Let's resolve wh
SIERRA'S POV"Roy?" she asked again. Her jaw dropped. Her eyes widened. Eleanor was just so shocked to hear that such a name existed."You heard me right, Eleanor. Roy was right there. I don't know what he was doing. He kept flirting with his eyes and trying to cause chaos." My explanation didn't make sense to anyone.I got troubled whenever I remembered these two people were together and trying to do something."Does Evan have any idea about him?" Her voice was as low as a whisper."No! How the fuck is he supposed to know my history with that boy? It might be in the past, but it's so fucked up to know about." I was literally trembling in fear."That son of a bitch returned. I wish he had come while I was still there. I would have brushed his teeth out." Eleanor folded her palm into a fist."No, I don't want to create a scene. I don't want people to know that we knew each other. I don't know who the fuck he is, and you shouldn't know too. Okay?" I warned her seriously and made sure sh
ELEANOR'S POVThe whole time I was supposed to put into my work, I dedicated it to my best friend's wedding. Now I had a lot of work to do.The next morning was such a fresh, bright one. I got up from the bed earlier than usual."Why are you so happy today? What's the secret?" My husband's hands were all over me, trying to get my attention."I am always happy, just that sometimes I am so lazy to show it," I scoffed and poured the coffee into the coffee cup."So what makes you so energetic to show it today?" He kissed me on the cheek."Ugh... please don't tell me you can't guess the reason I'm this happy. I mean, I know I have a lot of work to do in the office, but okay, what other thing?" I shrugged."I don't know. You tell me." He finally got tired of guessing and probably the whole beating around the bush."Sierra is married. Don't you get it? I'm so happy for her. She got two things at once. Pregnant and married. That is a very good gain for her," I chuckled, jumping up like I just
