SERENA’S POV

I stood in the doorway of the security room, my arms wrapped tight around myself as he stared at me like I meant something to him for a moment. The only reason I had come looking for him was because he saved my life by taking the cut for me. That was the lie I kept repeating to myself as I bit my lower lips. I could not bring myself to admit that I came here because I wanted him.

Suddenly his expression changed to that same flat expression he had worn since the kitchen introduction

STEFANO’S POVThe drive back carried a thick awkward silence that settled between us like another passenger. Serena stayed quiet in the back seat as I kept my eyes on the road, the earlier brush of my hand against her waist replayed in my mind without mercy. “Fuck you, Stefano,” I muttered under my breath. “You sure have a death wish. Get her out of your head please.”Just then my phone vibrated once against my thigh. I glanced at the screen long enough to catch the sender and the first line of message from Leonardo, my consigliere. “Boss. The empire is waiting on you. We need you.”I locked the device and set it face down without opening the full message. Suspicion had no place in this car and Serena was already watching me too closely for comfort. The rest of the ride passed in the same strained quiet until the estate gates opened and I parked near the main entrance. I stepped out and moved to her door. She reached for the handle herself but paused when I offered my hand. Our eye

SERENA’S POV The meeting ended on a clear high note as Mr. Fitzgerald, my editor leaned back with a satisfied nod and confirmed the remaining notes would polish the manuscript into something stronger. We had settled every open question and the path forward felt solid. I gathered the printed pages and slipped them into my bag while the residual energy of talking about the characters still hummed in the air. He glanced toward the wide front windows where Stefano waited outside near the car. “Is that your boyfriend watching you so intently?” he asked, voice light and curious rather than prying. “You’re lucky to have such a man as your boyfriend.” I followed his gaze. Stefano stood there, looking towards a group of young boys, he had been looking our way earlier in that surveillance look he always has. Mr. Fitzgerald’s question landed heavier than it should have. “No,” I said, the single word coming out low and edged with something I refused to name. “He’s not my boyfriend.” Mr. Fi

  • CLAIMED BY MY MAFIA BODYGUARD   Chapter 0010: Liar’s Pulse

STEFANO’S POVI had been standing just inside the side entrance when she appeared at the top of the stairs and the sight of her stopped every planned word in my throat. I had spent the entire night staring at the ceiling replaying the cold way I had shut her down in the security room and the look that had crossed her face when I told her to get the fuck out of her head. She had not deserved that level of ice. The plan this morning had been simple. Offer a brief apology, keep the day professional, and move forward without the residual tension. Then she walked down in that fitted dark dress that hugged every curve I had already mapped with my hands, mouth, and my body called me a liar so loudly I almost laughed at myself.I had spent hours convincing myself that Serena De Luca meant nothing beyond the assignment and the complicated web that tied me to her family. One look at the confident set of her shoulders and the way the fabric moved with her steps and the lie cracked open. “Stefa

I could not bring myself to admit that I came here because I wanted him.Suddenly his expression changed to that same flat expression he had worn since the kitchen introduction, the cold distance in his eyes now made something restless and unwanted twist hard under my ribs. “You should go back to bed, Signora,” he said, his voice icy and even.I stared at him as the irritation in my chest rose fast enough to taste. “Why do you keep doing this?” I asked, the question sharper than I intended and edged with the frustration I could no longer swallow. He tilted his head slightly as if the words made no sense. “Excuse me?” “You heard me, Stefano,” I said, heat climbing

STEFANO’S POV I stood in the sitting room with the words already out of my mouth and the weight of them settling wrong in my chest. Every calculated instinct screamed that I had just handed them a thread that could unravel everything about me. Telling them I had seen the attacker’s face was a risk I should never have taken, yet the alternative left me exposed in a different and far more dangerous way. Someone from the Armani syndicate had sent that man knowing I would be standing beside her on my first official day and the only logical reason was to make me look incompetent or worse. If they wanted me buried under suspicion they had nearly succeeded and the knowledge of that sat like ice under my skin. “How is that possible?” Elena asked, staring at me. “Serena said he was in a mask.” I nodded my head and took another step forward. “He was, Signora De Luca,” I replied. “But the mask slipped when he lunged at her and that was when I caught a clear look at his lower half of his fac

  • CLAIMED BY MY MAFIA BODYGUARD   Chapter 007: Shattered Safety

SERENA’S POV I stood frozen on the pavement as the crowd noise blurred into a distant roar and my hands trembled so hard I could barely feel my fingers. The knife still lay a few feet away glinting under the afternoon light and every breath scraped my throat raw. This was Italy. This was supposed to be safe. I had only just returned and already someone had come for me with a blade in broad daylight. I had convinced myself the danger belonged to America, that the lonely nights and the feeling of eyes on my back only existed because I was far from my family, from my safe space. Now the truth slammed into me with full force. Whoever hunted me had followed me home. Stefano stepped in front of me, his body still angled toward the direction the attacker had fled. “Are you okay?” he asked, his voice cutting through the fog. I shook my head even as I forced the words out. “I am fine.” The lie tasted bitter. My legs felt like water and my pulse hammered so loud I was sure he could hear
