~Mia~

How could I forget? He comes every morning to check up on me.

I don't have the strength to face him today. I don't want to see anyone today at all.

“Mia are you awake?” I hear Thorne ask from outside.

I weigh the pros and cons of opening the door for Thorne in my head and decide it's best to keep him out. Thorne is very perceptive, he might find out about the poison within minutes of staying with me.

“You're scaring me Mia. I'm breaking down the door if you don't respond.”

It's best I tell him I'm fine so he'll go his way.

I remove the blanket from me, opening my curtains. The bright light almost blinds me, making my shield my eyes, blinking continuously.

As I'm about to go to the door, I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and I almost gasp.

My hair is like a bird's nest, my eyes are bloodshot and my skin looks pale. There were eye bags from my lack of sleep. My hands fly to gently massage my forehead as a migraine hits me.

“I've brought my spare key, I'm opening it now.”

  • CLAIMED BY THE DEMON KING: DARK ROMANCE   198| Closure and Chaos

~Elara~The morning starts with silence. Not the peaceful kind, but the heavy, eerie kind that feels like the world is holding its breath. The curtains flutter in the wind as the morning sun shines brightly.‎‎Something feels wrong.‎‎I rise from bed, wrapping my robe around me. My hair’s a mess, my mind worse. I didn’t sleep. Couldn’t. The air has been thick with tension since Kyle’s capture, since Anita escaped and Lucien leaving.‎‎I walk to the balcony, watching the courtyard below. Guards move in tense formation. Dravon’s men are changing shifts, but their movements are sharp, restless. The scent of unease lingers everywhere.‎‎I come back into the bedroom and that’s when I see it, on my bed side stool.‎‎A folded paper.‎A red ribbon.‎And Lucien’s wolf pendant glinting in the light. The letter Lucien gave me yesterday, I haven't opened it yet.‎‎For a moment, I just stand there, staring. My throat tightens. The pendant, it used to rest against his chest.‎‎I sink into be

~Elara~“Ok, let's start here.” I stand upright in front of him, gesturing to the entire garden. “This is the royal garden. It is divided into three sections: the floral session, the crops session and the orchard. It also has a greenhouse where rare plants-” I notice Lucien standing still, staring at me wistfully. I snap my fingers in his face. “Are you still here or have you travelled to the world beyond?”He blinks. “Uhm sorry what did you say?”I put my hands on my waist. “Do you want the tour or not?”“I do, I'm really sorry. I just got lost in your beau- beautiful words, but please go on.” He awkwardly chuckles.“You want to see the greenhouse we have?” I simply ask.“Sure.” He agrees. As we head to the greenhouse, I point out some flowers that are not in Winterwood, telling him their names.“Also lilies are rare here.” I add.He turns to me. “Lilies? The same lilies that we have abundant in Winterwood?”“Yes. When I came here it was a shock to me as well. For some reason the so

  • CLAIMED BY THE DEMON KING: DARK ROMANCE   196| He returns

ELARA'S POVThe air in the court room is tense, the silence heavier than any mountain in the kingdom. Dravon's voice booms once again, breaking it.“So no one can tell me the exact location of Lord Veyra?!” He turns to Lord Dimitri. “Not even you? You don't know where your dear ally ran too?”Lord Dimitri avoids meeting Dravon's eyes, looking down. “I don't know where he is, Your Highness. We're no longer close like before. I- I swear on my life, Your Highness.”Today's meeting has been filled with cautious words and Dravon's raging voice. Since we learnt that Anita and Calistra escaped, Dravon has been in a terrible mood. Not only did they escape, guards were killed in the process. The cuts and stabs were clean, almost as if it was done by an assassin, a professional. We truly underestimated Anita. Not only was she the mastermind behind every treasonous plot, but she's also gradually gathering rebels. It's as though she's preparing to fight war against us.But what still baffles me i

  • CLAIMED BY THE DEMON KING: DARK ROMANCE   195| Goodbye, My Moonlight

~Lucien~Her expression suddenly turns stern. “I didn't say much to your confessions when we were still in Winterwood, but Lucien you can't keep saying this to me. I'm married to a man I love.” She fiddles with a gold bracelet I assume was given to her by the King. “I love Dravon, and that's it. You'll have to stop declaring your feelings to me, it makes me uncomfortable.”“I can tell Elara.” I confess. “I've seen the way you look at him, I've also seen the way he looks at you. He clearly adores you. But I just wanted to make my feelings known because…” I inhale deeply but before I can say more, the door creaks open and the King strides in.‎‎The air shifts instantly. The powerful aura he carries fills the room like thunder. His shadow cuts across the floor, all sharp edges and restrained fury. His golden eyes flick to me, then to Elara, then back again.‎‎“You need to rest,” he says to her. But his gaze stays on me. “You’ve been active throughout today.”‎‎Elara rises reluctantly,

  • CLAIMED BY THE DEMON KING: DARK ROMANCE   194| Saved the one I Lost

LUCIEN'S POVThe scent of herbs and burnt incense fills my lungs before my eyes even open. My body feels like stone. It's heavy, unyielding and bruised in places I didn’t know could ache. I remember taking the blade in my chest, but for odd reasons my entire body hurt. Somewhere far off, I hear voices. Faint. Low. Unfamiliar.‎‎When I blink awake, the light stings. White sheets. Silver drapes. The soft hum of magic in the air. I know this place. The healer’s chamber. But this doesn't look like the healer's chamber I'm familiar with, this isn't Winterwood. I try to use my hand to sit up, but my entire body is weak, I can't lift anything. What actually happened to me?“Wolfsbane” “Poison”These words rush back to me. I remember now, the blade was poisoned. The poison must have spread, weakening my entire body.I look around the room and I spot two people wearing a white coat with their hair covered with hair net, walking around the room, mumbling to each other. Where am I?I try to

  • CLAIMED BY THE DEMON KING: DARK ROMANCE   193| The Night of Vengeance

~Anita~I glance at her with a grin. “Of course it does.” I slide another key into the lock, twisting it until the bolt releases with a satisfying clank. “Step one, get you out. Step two, make her bleed. It’s time we remind her that crowns can fall as easily as they rise.”The chains fall with a clatter. The door creaks open, and Calistra stands, trying to brush off her skirt with her cuffed hands. She stretches, cracking her neck.‎‎“You look terrible,” I say.‎‎She smirks. “And you look desperate.”‎‎“Desperate women get things done.”‎‎Calistra brows pinches together, holding out her hands for me to remove the cuff. ”But on a serious note, how come you aren't looking as wretched as I am? You were arrested as well.” I sigh, trying to search for the right key amongst the bunch. “I was under house arrest.”“House arrest? Is that even an option for the type of crime you were accused of?” I shrug. “My dad appealed and used his influence in the court council. Basically, nepotism wa
