Rain's POV

What was that look?

Was there anything wrong with asking for a walk?

It was the first time in one year since I was brought here. Every time in my life since my abduction, I was made to sit in that room—or another room—the same one where the Alpha shifted. Into the beast he was.

“I—”

I choked on a chunk of meat.

Almost.

“Did I say something wrong, my lord?”

“No—” he looked away from Alec. “I'm surprised you would need my permission before going on a walk.”

The shock was evident on my countenance.

What was the Alpha trying to say?

“You don't need my permission before you go out, Rain. When I say go out, I mean within the compound. Any length but with a man by your side.” He looked at Alec and I did the same, knowing already the man he was referring to— the same man who I just found out was my mate.

Last night.

If only they knew I didn't want a thing to do with them.

But right now, I could not blow my chances.

My chances of having the freedom I desired.

“I—” I

  • CLAIMED BY THE DEVIL ALPHA    11: SUSPICION

Kane’s POV I looked up from the bed where I relaxed. Something was strange this morning, and yet, I had a hard time laying my hands on it. “Good morning, Rain.” She walked even closer, then bowed. “How are you today? Good morning.” A question she'd never asked me, one that confirmed my thoughts. “Do you need something?” “No, not at all. Take a seat.” She was standing in front of me soon, settling on the couch not far from me and the bed where I sat. Then, she took a seat and looked around before facing me. I could see it, right there on her face—but there was nothing I could figure out as the reason for such an act. “Tell me something, Rain.” “Wh—what, my lord?” “Did something happen after the event?” “After the event?” she muttered and for a second, she seemed lost in her thoughts. When she finally looked up, she glanced at me and asked. “What do you mean?” Did Rain think I was a fool? My wolf reacted to something. It ran around in circles for a reason I could not lay h

  • CLAIMED BY THE DEVIL ALPHA    10: REFUSAL

Rain's POV I looked at him. He was staring at me. Something moved inside of me. My wolf. The angry creature moved in many directions, forgetting it was a small body she lived in. What the hell was happening? Suddenly, I heard her speak. “Mate—” It was loud and it was clear. “Mate. Alec. Mate—” It confirmed its words from the first instant and with fear in my eyes, I glanced at Alec. He still looked at me, it was as though he felt the same thing. My mouth opened. It shut and opened again, and then I asked him. “Did—did you feel that?” Alec moved. He let go of the tray, the table and was moping at me from a distance. “This can't be.” Same thing I thought. There was no way it could be. Why would the moon goddess choose to punish me this way, as though the ones I had received before now wasn't enough? “You are bound to the Alpha.” Confusion plastered on my countenance like never before. My thoughts raced in my head, many ideas running to and fro as I tried to lay my hands on

I walked her through the hallway, rushing as we moved toward nowhere in particular.“Where are we going?” she asked.“Just keep walking,” I urged, fear tightening my voice—for her.We didn’t stop until we reached the door to her room. With one final burst of energy, I pushed it open and ushered her inside.“Are you hurt?” I asked, studying her like she was something precious—like gold. She was shaking, stunned by what had just happened. So was I, though I tried not to show it.“Are you hurt?” I asked again. Couldn’t she speak? “Sit.”I shut the door behind us and gently pushed her down onto the bed.“I’ll get you some water, alright?” I said softly. I understood why she was shaken. Seeing that unfold in real life… it wasn’t something I ever wanted for her. But I hadn’t been able to stop it—especially not when Kane had made it so clear he wanted her at the party. Why couldn’t he just leave her alone?I dashed out again, hurrying down the stairs. My legs struck some of the decorative ro

I followed him through the manor's corridors, my footsteps leading me closer to the woman who had my fate in her hands. I smelled her first, even before I glimpsed her with my eyes: wildflowers and rain with a base note of a kind that was all her own. My heart pounded harder, the creature within it stirring. The ballroom fell silent as I approached, scores of pack members and visiting Alphas bowing their heads with respect. I scanned the crowd with my eyes, seeking only one face. She stood at the foot of the stairs beside Alec, midnight blue silk hugging rounded curves acquired over the past year. Black hair cascaded down her back in waves, silver claps for hairpins catching the candlelight where they secured it. Delicate chains at her throat—obviously hiding my mark from me to my disappointment, glinted as she stepped. Our gazes connected from across the room, and the creature growled its approval. She was beautiful. And she was mine.I stepped closer to her, the crowd parting around

  • CLAIMED BY THE DEVIL ALPHA    7: MONSTER UNLEASHED.

Rain's POVA year. Three hundred and sixty- days of imprisonment inside a golden cage. I stroked the scar on my neck, the mark of my slavery to the monster who had killed my family. Before me, a foreign face stared back from the mirror-curves sharper, eyes sharper, the plumpness of childhood replaced by the hard lines of survival. The servants had spread a midnight blue silk gown over my bed, candlelight-catching silk that sparkled, a none-too-subtle reminder of the evening's intention. Kane's birthday celebration. As if such a being were worthy of celebration.A knocking at my door broke me from somber reflections."Come in," I said, recognizing who it was even as I heard the door open.Alec entered, hallway light picking up the silver strands now interwoven with darkened hair-mementos of the evening Kane had won me. His eyes, though still ocean-blue, ranged over me with wary examination I'd grown accustomed to."You're not dressed," he said, standing against the doorframe.I shrugge

  • CLAIMED BY THE DEVIL ALPHA    6: DREAMS

Kane's POVDreams came to me the moment I closed my eyes, as they always do. This evening, however, they were different.Bloody marble floors. Raya's vacant eyes looking up at me, accusatory even as she had never been while living. Her warm lips only a matter of hours before against my mouth, now blue and lifeless."You've failed me," said the corpse, never even opening its mouth.I tried, I begged, holding my hands up to her. I didn't know—"You were supposed to protect me," she reproached. "Now see what you've become."I stared down at my hands, watching as they transformed into claws, as black fur erupted all over my body. The metamorphosis coursed through me—not merely physical, but spiritual as well. Darkness seeped through me, corrupting all it touched."This is your punishment," Raya's body continued, sitting up from the ground now, head tilting to one side unnaturally. "It is not sufficient."She stood, still bleeding from the open wound on her chest. "You will lose what you l

  • CLAIMED BY THE DEVIL ALPHA    5: MARKED

Rain's POVI hadn't slept. I padded through the luxurious cell they'd placed me in, running my fingers over the gold-trimmed patterns of the furniture with a state of absent mind. Outside, the moon was suspended, its light a bitter reminder of what I'd witnessed down in the cellar.I was numb where I had felt Kane's touch. Every time I tried to shut my eyes, the memory of his eyes, shifting from hazel to dark, and back again, tormented me.A distant crash echoed within the manor, with shouting. I stiffened, my senses alert, listening for the slightest indication of what was happening. Were they coming back for me again? The clock with its carved statues marked off minutes spent in the passage of hours. My prison, while pretty, was a prison. I tested the door again, it was still secured. I tried the windows, they were too high to jump.Another collision, closer. My heart pounded against my chest as rapid footsteps echoed down the corridor beyond. I stepped back from the door of my own

  • CLAIMED BY THE DEVIL ALPHA    4: THE TEST II

Kane's pov I tensed as I jumped upon Rain, my wolf shouting with unrestrained rage. My veins coursed with the power of the moon as liquid heat, my brain wild with hunger. She backed away, knocking against the cold wall of stone. Nowhere to escape. Nowhere to hide. Her chest was heaving with frightened breaths, her eyes frozen with fear as I towered over her trembling form. "Please," she whispered, hardly making a sound. The monster within me reveled in her fear. It devoured the racing heart at the base of her neck, the trembling limbs, the smell of fear. My claws lengthened, prepared to tear muscle from bone. But then—something odd happened. When my claws were inches from her face, she was no longer the same. Between us, the smell had changed, charged with something... else. My flared nostrils gathered up the smell. She gazed up at me, no longer fearful, but defiant. She lifted up her chin, baring her neck not as a signal of surrender, but of resistance. "Do it," she s
