Subconsciously, Rebecca dragged Axel, but it was too late. She was only fortunate the bullet hit Axel’s shoulder, instead of his back.

Her late drag helped a bit, by saving Axel from being shot in a vital place.

“Axel!” She screamed as blood rushed out of his left shoulder.

Axel’s shoulders slumped, he held his bleeding shoulder with his right hand as he slowly turned.

    The morning was quiet, the kind of silence that pressed gently against the ears. The air smelled faintly of earth and damp leaves.     Rebecca felt the air leave her lungs. She couldn’t believe the sight before her. It was impossible.     The day had started with her thinking the gifts and luxury was a dream, and she was excited it wasn’t. But right now, she really hoped and prayed this would be a dream. “Hello, my love.” The voice confirmed she wasn’t hallucinating nor dreaming. Eric was standing a few steps away, that same cruel smirk curling across his face, one she had hoped she’d never see again.
