LOGINRebecca had finished crying, and she was seated on the floor with her hands wrapped around her knees. She couldn't cry anymore, she was tired and hungry, she hadn't eaten anything since the previous day. Just as if her mind was being read, the door opened and Kira walked in, holding a tray of food.
"Get up quickly." Kira said, as she dropped the tray on the bed, ignoring the scattered bedsheet.
Rebecca spared the food a stare, and surprisingly, it was her favorite meal, stir-fried spaghetti.
"Eat up fast, you need to prepare. I made the chef prepare the food with extra spice. I was told you liked it." Kira informed her, before walking out of the room.
She was taken aback. It was true she liked her food extra spicy. How did Kira know about that? Who told her? She was still trying to figure it out when her eyes spotted the tulip of roses on the bedside table. She had seen the flowers when she woke up, but she didn't give attention to it, but now that she thought of it, she became astonished. It was her favorite flower.
She waved the thought and climbed the bed, instantly devouring the food like a hungry lion. In less than five minutes, she was done eating. She drank the juice for easily digestion and took a deep breath after that.
Immediately, the door opened and Kira walked in with a girl. The girl was holding a big box. She placed the box on the other side of the bed and then took the tray out of the room.
"How do you always know when to come in?" Rebecca asked, feeling amused.
Kira always came in at the right time and somehow it was satisfying.
"This box here contains the things you'll be needing to dress up. The boss has brought this to you, you're so lucky." The way Kira said the words with malice didn't go unnoticed.
Rebecca noticed the girl had purposely ignored her question, but she didn't budge, she let it be. Moreover, she had important things to be worried about.
"I don't know what your boss wants or who he is, I just want to go home." She muttered to Kira's hearing.
Kira laughed lightly and Rebecca creased her brows, wondering what was funny in what she said.
"I doubt that, Rebecca," Kira said. She opened the box and pushed it to Rebecca.
Rebecca stared into the box and a frown appeared on her face. "Why do I need all these?" She questioned.
The box contained a black gown, silver heels, a diamond bracelet and a necklace.
"Because you need to look your best before meeting with the boss... Now get up, go to the bathroom, freshen up and put this on, understood?" Kira instructed.
Rebecca scoffed, she didn't understand anything, the whole thing looked like a movie.
"And what if I don't?" She stood her ground. She didn't like the fact that she was being ordered around like a lost puppy.
Without saying a word, Kira dipped her hand in her jacket pocket and took out a gun.
Rebecca backed away immediately. Her heart raced, beating in her chest like a drum. Fear crept up her spine, and the only thing she could do at that moment was to cry.
Kira rolled her eyes as she stared at the poor girl. "Now that you know what I'll do if you don't do as I say, you better adhere to anything I tell you. Understood?"
Rebecca nodded quickly, and a satisfactory smile appeared on Kira's lips.
"Good girl. I'll be back to take you to him." With that being said, Kira walked out of the room.
Rebecca rushed to the bathroom in tears, she didn't want to take chances.
Some minutes later, she was dressed in the outfit, and she looked so gorgeous in it.
If it was a normal day, she would take her time admiring her figure, but not in this situation.
As she walked beside Kira, her melancholic eyes were fixed in a particular direction. She didn't give attention to the luxurious decor of the place.
They got outside the building and even though it was nighttime, the whole place looked bright because of the numerous lights fixed everywhere.
A young man approached them, holding a bouquet of roses.
When he got to them, he handed the bouquet to her, and she didn't want to take it. But as soon as she recalled Kira's action earlier, she collected the bouquet from him.
She watched the guy whisper something to Kira, and he then walked away after that.
"You are so lucky." Kira muttered to her hearing, and she wondered what the girl meant by that.
They continued walking, and Kira stopped when they got to the garden entrance.
"Go on from here. Don't try to do anything stupid, I'll be watching you." She warned her and walked away.
Rebecca took a deep breath, wondering what was awaiting her there.
As she entered the garden, a light gasp escaped her lips. The pathway was adorned with twinkling lights and lanterns, casting a golden glow on the flowers there.
A sweet fragrance welcomed her, and she could tell it was from the roses around the garden.
Whoever the boss was, he definitely knew her favorite flower was a rose.
She spotted a beautifully set table in a quiet corner.
When she got to where the table was, she met a huge figure standing four meters from the table.
His back was turned against her, so she couldn't see his face.
The golden lighting cast a glow on his broad shoulders, highlighting the tension in his posture.
She didn't know if he knew about her presence there, so she decided to speak up. "Hey." She cooed.
She didn't get a reply.
The atmosphere was heavy with anticipation. Her gaze was fixed on his back, searching for clues that might reveal his identity.
Her heart raced with a mix of curiosity and trepidation. She took a deep breath and decided to take a bold step. She walked closer to him and just when she was about to tap his shoulder, he slowly turned to her.
Her hand stopped midair immediately she saw his face. The bouquet fell from her hand.
Her expression transformed from curiosity to shock. Her eyes dimmed, it was as if she had just seen a ghost.
Time freezed as they locked eyes, the air thick with unspoken words.
The silence between them was awkward. Only the gentle rustling of leaves and the soft chirping of birds could be heard.
Her lips parted, but no words came out. She took a step backward, her brain scrambling to process the unexpected situation.
"Axel." His name left her mouth in a whisper.
As fast as he could, he pushed Rebecca out of the way and they both fell to the other side, hitting the ground hard. Rebecca’s eyes widened, her lips parted but there was no words coming out. Axel’s weight was on her, covering her from the bullet like a shield and when he stood up, he said in a rush,“Get to safety, I’ll go after him.” He glanced at the man who had just taken to his heels upon noticing he had been caught. Rebecca shook her head. She wanted to speak, but couldn’t. She was terrified. Someone had just tried to kill her, and if Axel didn’t act fast, she would have been dead by now. Understanding her state at that moment, Axel held her hand and led her away from the crowd that was already forming due to the incident. The people around were asking if they were okay, speaking French, but Rebecca didn’t say a word. It wasn’t just because she didn’t hear what they said, she was too flabbergasted to react. They got to where the car was parked and Axel opened the door
It was a bright Saturday morning in Paris, and Rebecca tossed on the bed, trying to look for a perfect spot where the sun won’t reflect on her face, but there was none. Slowly, her eyes opened and when she saw the unclosed curtain was the cause, she groaned. How could Axel allow her sleep in discomfort. Speaking of Axel, she turned to the other side of the bed and Axel wasn’t there. It was then she recalled she got drunk last night and didn’t know if Axel returned or not. Her head was aching badly and she touched the side of it, rubbing it gently.“Fucking hangover.” She muttered. As she got up from the bed, she noticed the shirt Axel wore before he left yesterday was on the only sofa in the bedroom. It gave her a hint that he returned home last night, maybe when she was asleep.“Fuck!” She covered her face with her palms. She was embarrassed he got to meet her drunk and vulnerable last night. Her stomach twisted at the memory. God, did she laugh too loud? Did she say som
Rebecca began doubting whether the time on her phone was correct. It had been three good hours and Axel promised to come back in less than an hour but he was nowhere to be found. For the umpteenth time, she checked her phone for any message from Axel but there was none. Instead, she found a message from Kira and Ella. Not in the mood for any funny or sweet conversation, she ignored Ella’s message and opened Kira’s instead. “The private investigator is ready. This is his contact.” A light smile tugged on her lips when she read the text. Finally! She typed a ‘thank you’ and sent it to Kira. Almost immediately, Kira replied. “Be careful not to let Axel find out. I’ve gotten a new lead on your brother, he’s currently in California and would be coming to Miami soon for a project. But something is off, we tried to find details about the project and the more we looked the less we saw, the project doesn’t exist, it feels like a trap to lure him to Miami.” Her brows furrowed in co
It was that time of the year, when the Paris airport buzzed with life. It was summer holiday. The international airport of Paris was filled with people moving with bags, some were ready to travel, while some returning home. Rebecca sighed as soon as she stepped down from the plane. The air felt fresh and the atmosphere was pleasant for her mood. A smile tugged on her lips as she stared ahead of her. One would think it was her first time in Paris.“This place makes me sick.” She heard Axel’s voice from behind her. She didn’t turn, she knew he was going to catch up with her, and in less than thirty seconds, he did.“I kinda feel this is awkward.” She muttered to his hearing.“What?” He replied, calmly, maybe a bit too calm. She could sense the tiredness from his voice. Who wouldn’t be tired after a long trip. But aside that, she could tell there was something else, but she just couldn’t picture what it was.“You and me in Paris not for any purpose. I don’t know why I’m allowing
Rebecca chuckled dryly. “What stage of deception is this, Kira? I thought you’ll stop playing smart with me now that I’ve signed the contract. What is…”“You think I’m lying?” “I don’t think, I know!” She flared up. “You’re trying to say my dad cheated on my mum and even had an illegitimate son.” Kira sighed in frustration. Having knowing Rebecca for a while now, she knew Rebecca would react this way, so she wasn’t surprised, she was only frustrated.“Yes, your father cheated on your mum, with multiple women. He wasn’t a saint, Rebecca, but he was smart enough to act like one around you. Of all the woman he cheated on your mum with, Danny’s mum was his favorite and he had plans to marry her secretly and send her to another country, but unfortunately he was murdered before he could do so.” Jake explained, taking over from Kira who looked already tired. Rebecca shook her head in denial. “No, I won’t believe this.” Her father showered her mum with love, they loved each other so d
Rebecca’s eyes flashed in surprise. “You want us to go to Paris?” She asked to be sure she heard well. Axel stared at her for a while before letting out a dry chuckle. “You act quite well, Becca. Seeing how excited you are to go to Paris, one would think you haven’t been there.” Her eyes narrowed. It was true she had been to Paris before, but how did Axel know? “You went to Paris with that son of a bitch for honeymoon.” He answered, even before she could ask. Busted. She couldn’t deny it. “Yes.” Her voice was low. “Then why acting like you’re eager to see the Eiffel Tower when you’ve seen it before?” She heaved a sigh. “Before I found out the real truth about Eric, I wasn’t really that into him. I tried so hard to love him the way I thought he did but it wasn’t just happening. I had to get married to him because he had done a lot for me, and I also wasn’t in any other relationship…” Axel listened patiently, waiting for all what she had been saying to make sense. “Aft
