ANOKAI’S POV

I tossed and turned all night, unable to sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, shadows coursed around me, followed by his head snapping out and the wolf growling at me.

It was like reliving it all over again.

A shadow hand forming, gripping my jaw, and the other red-eyed monster growling at it.

The only thing that kept me through the night was my plan on how to leave this hellhole and make sure to never see the alphas again.

The next morning, I woke up at the same time as all the girls. The lady in red had come to wake us up, introducing herself as Emilia and our caretaker. According to her, she’s the one who makes the Alpha’s women and takes care of them.

We were not required to do anything in the pack, which was good. As the alpha’s pets, or toy as she had said, we only needed to be ready every time for the alphas. Which meant to be ready anytime to get killed or to die.

She had asked us to freshen up as she would be back in the next hour to take us to breakfast. I took my bath quickly like someone on a mission, which I was, dressing up in one of the clothes she had delivered as I thought of my plans.

I was going to escape this hellhole. And it has to be today.

If the alphas called anytime, like Emilia said, then there was still a chance for them to see me. A chance I cannot afford.

I need to find a way to escape this fortress into the thick forest that surrounds it and from there, all I have to do is find my way out and leave to a nearby pack.

I was still in my thoughts, calculating and planning, when a girl suddenly sat on my bed, “So how’d it go last night with the alphas?”

Everyone in the room turned to me, wicked and waiting for answers. I didn’t know what to say, whether to tell them the truth and horror of what the alphas are. With their gnawing and full agaze, would they even believe me?

I shrugged at the girl, “I’m still alive, so..

“WOW. You’re so courageous.” A girl with short black hair said, cutting me off. “Talking back to the alphas! I thought they were going to snap your head off yesterday.”

“It’s nothing,” I tried to say, but another girl moved closer.

“What do you mean nothing? They sent us out for you. Tell us everything, what did they do to you? Was it good? Did they ask you to cut yourself? Did they fuck you? Tell us.”

I looked at them all, their expressions eager without knowing this was more than sex. Those men were monsters, beasts that would kill them without snapping a finger.

“Don’t be dumb, girls.” Someone suddenly said, a girl with stark bright red hair.

She pushed to the front, standing in front of everyone. I remembered her as the second girl that threw herself at the alpha, trying to be different, “don’t you know why she talked back at the alphas? She was trying to win their attention. To get them all to herself.”

I mentally scoffed. She was wrong. I was trying to make them not like me, to throw me out. And all I got in return was seeing them at their worst forms and realizing the danger I am in by coming to this place.

I shuddered as she continued, “Don’t you girls know it? The alphas are the most powerful alphas in the entire wolf community. There’s nothing you want that they can't get for you.” Her brown eyes met mine, the evil in them reminding me of Aurelia whenever she wanted to do something to put me in trouble.

“All she was trying to do was make sure to have everything and cut us away from the alphas. She wants them all to herself.”

Murmurs filled the room, the girls whispering to themselves. The girl beside me broke the silence, “But isn’t that selfish? We’re all here for the alphas. Why would you do that?”

I wanted to slap her face. Weren’t they all scared last night?

“Because she’s selfish!” The red-haired girl continued, “Just look at her. Ugly and slim. Everyone here has introduced themselves, yet she’s trying to be different.”

She walked to stop in front of me, eyeing me distasteful, “Your skin is too good to be an omega. And I’ve never for once seen you. Where are you from? Are you an outcast? A rejected daughter?”

Her words reminded me of home, making my chest hurt as I recalled my family and what they think of me. I shoved all of it down, refusing to be berated here again by an Aurelia 2.0

“What do you want?” I stood up to her, matching her glare.

“If it’s the alphas you want, then you’re free. You can have them. I do not want them.”

She sneered at me, “What a pathetic excuse. Now that they’ve scared you and don’t want you anymore, you think you can act all tough?”

I scoffed. How can someone think this way?

“Every woman who has entered their bed has never come out alive. They always want them.” The words left her mouth like an obnoxious fool, “to death.”

“You’re the first one that’s leaving alive. Were you rejected again, you poor thing?”

She looked down on me, “Daddy and Mummy don't like you and cast you out. And now you’re useless here again.” She mocked, “That must hurt.”

I clenched my jaw, anger rising to my chest, “Get out of my face.”

A victorious smile graced her lips, “They’ll never pick you. You’re not their type.”

I scoffed, cutting her off, “Listen to me, I do not want them. I don’t care about them. If you want them so bad, go and take them.” I step closer to her, glaring at each other, “Now get out of my face before…

“Before you what?” She closed the little space left between us, her entire body ready to pounce on me.

She was fierce. I could see it.

But I was fiercer. All the years of Aurelia tormenting me had taught me that. At first, Aurelia used to beat me, gang up on together with her friends and punish me for as long as she liked. Until one day when it backfired and I stood up to her, beating her and her three friends.

Then she resorted to using our parents. A battle I never won.

If this bitch thinks she can take me down, then she’s stupid.

The door opened before any of us could do anything, Emilia standing in the hallway with a royal guard at her back, “What is happening here?” She asked, eyes scanning me and the red haired girl.

“Nothing, madam Emilia. We were just talking.” The girl replied sweetly.

Disgust etched my face. Suck up bitch. Who wanted the alphas' money more between us?

I was still staring at her when I heard the guard’s voice and felt his eyes on me, “That’s her.”

I frowned, wondering what was going on when lady Emilia continued, “you,” she said, fingers pointing at me.

“The alphas have requested you to have breakfast with them.”

And all hell let loose.

ANOKAI’S POV“You’re scared of losing control,” I said, the realization hitting me with sudden clarity.Rowan’s expression shifted, something flickering in his eyes. “How is that related?”I moved closer to them, not all the way back, but enough that I didn’t have to shout. “Because this takes the control out of your hands. Up here, on this edge, you can’t rely on strength or power or violence. You can fall. You can die. And there’s nothing you can do to stop it.”The words settled over us, heavy with truth.“Everything in your lives,” I continued quietly, “you control through force. Through fear. Through being stronger and faster and more dangerous than anyone else. But gravity?” I gestured back toward the edge. “Gravity doesn’t care how powerful you are. Doesn’t care about your curse or your hunger or your reputation. One wrong step and you fall just like anyone else.”Silence greeted my words.Emiriel’s expression was unreadable, but I saw something shift in his eyes. Understand

ANOKAI’S POV“If you’re trying to kill me,” I said, my breath coming in short gasps as we climbed yet another steep incline, “you should just tell me now. At least give me the dignity of knowing.”My legs burned, my lungs ached, and sweat dampened my back despite the cooling afternoon air. We’d been walking—no, climbing for what felt like an eternity, following a narrow path that wound up and up through increasingly dense trees.“We’re close,” Rowan said without looking back, his pace never slowing.“You said that ten minutes ago,” I muttered.“And we’re closer now than we were then,” Emiriel added from behind me, amusement threading through his voice.I wanted to snap at him, but I needed all my breath just to keep moving. The path was getting steeper, the rocks under my feet loose and treacherous. More than once I’d nearly slipped, catching myself at the last moment.Where the hell were they taking me?We rounded another bend, and suddenly the trees thinned. The oppressive canopy

ANOKAIA laugh escaped my lips, genuine and surprised. “Really? Two sisters?”Rissa nodded, her smile soft and warm. “Yes, my lady. Both younger than me. They mean the world to me.”“I can’t imagine having sisters who actually like each other,” I said, the words coming out more bitter than I intended. But Rissa didn’t seem to notice, or if she did, she was kind enough not to comment.“They’re everything to me,” she continued, her eyes lighting up in a way I’d never seen before. “When I left home to work here, it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. But I send money back to them every month. To help with their education, their future.”“That’s—” I started, but a sharp knock interrupted me.The door opened before either of us could respond, and Emiriel stepped inside, Rowan close behind him.Rissa stood immediately, her chair scraping against the floor. “Your highnesses,” she said, bowing quickly. I could see the fear in her eyes but I noticed she remained close to me. My heart softe

EMIRIELThe afternoon sun streamed through the window of my office, but I barely noticed it. My eyes were fixed on the papers scattered across my desk. reports, accounts of the mysterious deaths but the words blurred together, meaningless.I couldn’t move past her words from yesterday.I came here because I had no choice.I was sent here as a spy.I’ve told you everything. Her voice echoed in my mind, sharp and defiant and tinged with something that might have been pain. But she’d delivered it all so coldly, so matter-of-factly, like she’d moved past caring whether we believed her or not.Like she’d given up.And that bothered me more than it should have.My beast stirred restlessly beneath my skin, a constant gnawing presence that had only gotten worse since last night. The moment her scent had disappeared from Nikolai’s room, the moment she’d slammed the door and left, taking that calming presence with her, everything had spiraled. All of our beasts had started raging again.Nikola

ANOKAII didn’t turn around. Didn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing whatever expression was on my face.“I don’t owe you any explanations,” I said, my voice flat.“You’re not leaving until you give me one.”The words were quiet, but they carried absolute authority. I felt it then—a shift in the air, something heavy and oppressive settling over the room. When I tried to turn the handle, it wouldn’t budge.Locked.Or held by something I couldn’t see.My jaw clenched as I slowly turned back to face them. Emiriel stood in the same spot, his expression calm but his eyes sharp. Waiting.“Let me out,” I said coldly.“Answer the question first.” Emiriel took a step closer. “Be truthful this time, Anokai. Why are you here? How did you end up in our pack?”I scoffed, the sound bitter. “What truth? Didn’t Ethan tell you everything already when he was here?”“I want to hear it from your mouth.”“Why?” I crossed my arms over my chest. “So you can pick apart every word? Find more reasons to su

They pulled at me, dragging me up from the depths of unconsciousness where I’d been floating peacefully.I didn’t want to wake up. Sleep was safe. Sleep was quiet. Sleep didn’t have kidnapping attempts or jealous women or alphas who looked at me like I was both salvation and destruction. But the voices persisted, growing louder, sharper. The furniture was larger, more masculine. Everything smelled different too. Not the soft, clean scen
