Lance worked tirelessly, finding any side hustle he could, working all day without sleep.

Even with all that he didn't make anything close to what he owed but he kept on working, his muscles protested but he didn't stop, he couldn't.

One of those days, Lance was even tempted to steal, to rob someone, just to get easy and fast money. The thought crossed his mind more than once, especially when desperation weighed heavy on him.

At one point, he found himself close to a woman inside a store, a thick bundle of cash visible in her bag. It would have been quick and no one would have noticed.

But he stopped in his tracks.

He couldn’t bring himself to do it.

That wasn’t the kind of person he was, no matter how desperate things had become. Even with everything closing in on him, he still had lines he refused to cross.

He had been missing classes and had several missed calls from Ylva and his other friends. They were all worried, But every time he finally picked up a call or replied to a text, he reassured them that he was fine, that everything was under control.

It was a lie he repeated so often it almost started to sound believable

It was the last day of the due payment, he hadn't gotten a lot of money but he still summoned up the courage to go back to the warehouse.

When the man from earlier saw the amount Lance had he scoffed, “What am I meant to do with this?”. He threw the bag of money to the side.

“Please just take it and let Tamera go, take me instead please, I'm begging you just let my sister go" Lance pled all the fire in his eyes completely gone, leaving him open and vulnerable.

“You know it's really nice seeing you beg like this, the once prideful Lance” the man continued

He stepped closer to Lance looking him up to down "You a tall young man hm,I'm guessing about 6’4 maybe more and you're built well”.

Lance gave him a confused look. “What do you mean?"

“You do have one option to pay a back although I really don't think it is gonna work in your favor”.

“I'll do anything, please” Lance responded desperately

The man looked at Lance for a moment before speaking up.

“Well, as everyone knows, I’m not the real boss around here,” the man said. “We have our top dog. I could get you in contact with the main man, although I highly doubt he’ll even let you breathe near him.”

“Top dog?” Lance asked.

“He’s the man behind everything we do, and one of the cruelest, if I do say so myself,” the man replied. “I’m his right hand. I deal with lowly pests like you so he doesn’t have to get his hands dirty.”

Lance knew anyone involved in this world was dangerous, but did he really have a choice? It was either this… or Tamera died.

“I’ll do it,” he said firmly.

Atta boy. You’ve got some guts,” the man said with a grin. The other men around him mirrored the expression. “We can take you to meet him right now. Oh, this ought to be fun.”

All the men began laughing, Lance didn't know why but he had a bad feeling, a very bad feeling.

Before Lance could even process what was happening, he was shoved into a car and driven off to God knows where. His chest tightened as anxiety clawed at him, fear settling deep in his bones.

When the car finally stopped, they were in front of a massive house. It was modern, sleek, and painfully elegant.

Inside, one of the men disappeared into another room.

Lance looked around. The interior wasn’t heavily furnished, which told him the place wasn’t used often, but it was still more beautiful than most houses he had ever seen.

Minutes later, the man returned, his expression annoyed.

“The boss is pissed we’re bothering him with a nobody,” he said. “He thinks a measly amount like this isn’t worth his time.”

Lance furrowed his brows. “Measly? They were talking about a million. Who exactly is this guy?” he thought.

“But he said he’ll come out shortly,” the man added.

Lance let out a shaky breath, unsure whether to feel relieved or even more terrified.

The wait felt endless. His hands trembled, but he forced himself to stay still. He needed to do this. For Tamera.

Finally, after nearly half an hour, footsteps approached. Slow. Measured. Deliberate. Each step sent a fresh wave of dread through him.

The men roughly forced Lance down onto his knees as the footsteps grew closer. His gaze stayed fixed on the floor, his heart pounding so loudly he was sure everyone could hear it.

The footsteps stopped right in front of him. All he could see were the shoes, polished, expensive, it looked like it cost more than his entire life.

“This is the debtor?” the boss said

Lance froze.

That voice.

His eyes widened. He had heard it before. Somewhere. Somewhere too familiar.

Slowly, he lifted his gaze.

And when his eyes locked onto the boss, it felt like his entire world stopped.

They didn’t stop. Not immediately. The kiss kept going—slower now, but deeper, like neither of them was in a hurry to pull away. The tension that had been building for so long had finally found somewhere to go, and neither of them seemed willing to interrupt it.Ragnar’s hand slid from Lance’s neck, then back up again—but this time, it didn’t stop at his jaw.It moved higher. And then—His arms wrapped around Lance’s neck. Not controlled. Not calculated.Just… instinct. That—That was new.And it hit Lance harder than anything else. His breath caught slightly against Ragnar’s lips, his grip tightening at Ragnar’s waist as something in him shifted. The confidence, the teasing control he’d been holding onto—it didn’t disappear, but it cracked just enough for something softer to slip through.Because Ragnar wasn’t just responding anymore. He was holding onto him.Lance leaned into it without thinking, his body reacting before his mind could catch up, pressing closer, deeper into the mome

Ragnar didn’t wait long after the meeting ended. He dismissed the others with the same calm authority he always had, but there was something sharper beneath it now, something restrained, barely held in place. The moment the room cleared, he moved.Straight out. No hesitation. He already knew where Lance would be.The kitchen was quiet.Too quiet compared to the tension that had filled the room minutes ago.Lance stood by the counter, one hand resting against it while the other lifted a glass of water to his lips. He looked completely unbothered, like nothing had happened, like he hadn’t just said all that in front of everyone.Like he hadn’t crossed a line. The door opened behind him.He didn’t turn immediately. He already knew.Ragnar stepped in, the door closing a little harder than usual behind him, not a slam, but enough to carry intent.“Do you find this amusing?”Lance took another slow sip before answering, setting the glass down with a soft clink.“…A little,” he admitted, fin

Ragnar stayed still for a moment after Lance’s words settled into him.“I love you… so fucking much.”The sentence lingered, not loud, not overwhelming, just there, sitting in the space between them like something solid. Something that couldn’t be taken back.He exhaled slowly. Then, carefully, he removed Lance’s arms from around him, not roughly, not rejecting, just enough to turn.To face him.Lance didn’t step back.Didn’t even try to hide the way he was looking at him now, open, bright, completely unguarded in a way he hadn’t been in days. And that alone was… dangerous.Ragnar’s expression settled back into something more controlled, though not as cold as before.“Don’t misunderstand this,” he said. His voice was steady again. Grounded. But not distant.“This does not mean we are in a relationship.”Lance blinked.Once.Then—He smiled. Not small. Not subtle.Wide.Unapologetic.Like he hadn’t even heard the warning part.“…So you like me too,” he said immediately, voice light, al

They broke apart slowly. Not abruptly, not awkwardly, just enough for air, for space, for reality to settle back in.But it didn’t feel the same anymore.Nothing about it did.The room felt different now. Not louder, not brighter, just… altered, like something irreversible had clicked into place and neither of them had fully processed it yet.Lance was the first to really look at him properly. Not the cold version of him. Not the boss. Not the wall he usually hid behind.Just Ragnar. And the second he did, something in Lance shifted.A smirk pulled at the corner of his lips. Slow. Knowing.Dangerous in its own way.“…So,” he murmured, voice lower now, lighter, like the tension that had been suffocating him for days had finally snapped, “you do have a heart after all.”Ragnar didn’t answer immediately. And that alone said everything.Because for the first time, He looked… off.Not shaken. Not out of control. But not entirely composed either. His usual stillness was there, but it wasn’

Ragnar didn’t remain seated for long after the call ended. The moment the line went dead, the silence returned to his office but it no longer pressed in on him the way it had before. It wasn’t suffocating, wasn’t chaotic or resisting him.It was clear.Decisive.Zara’s voice lingered in his mind, steady and unyielding, cutting clean through every excuse he had tried to construct. If you don’t say anything, you’ll lose him.Ragnar exhaled slowly and rose from his chair in one controlled motion. Everything about him remained composed, his cuffs aligned, his posture straight, his expression unreadable as ever. But beneath that control, something had already shifted. He didn’t hesitate.“Send Lance to my office.”The instruction left him as calmly as any other order, nothing in his tone betraying the weight behind it. To anyone listening, it was routine. Ordinary. It wasn’t.Lance didn’t rush when the message reached him.He didn’t do that anymore. There had been a time, recent, embarrass

Zara didn’t speak right away after that. Not because she didn’t have anything to say but because she could feel it.The shift.Small, quiet… but real. For the first time in a long time, Ragnar wasn’t shutting the conversation down. He wasn’t dismissing, redirecting, or cutting things off the moment they got too personal. He was still there.Still listening.Still… open. And that alone made something warm settle in her chest.“…You should tell him.”The words came gently, but they didn’t waver.Ragnar’s brows pulled together slightly. “Tell him what?”Zara didn’t entertain that. “How you feel.”The response was immediate.“No.”Flat.Certain.Zara smiled faintly, like she had expected that answer before he even said it. “Ragnar—”“I don’t do that,” he cut in.There it was. That wall again.Solid.Familiar.Zara didn’t push against it harshly. She never had.Instead, her voice softened, steady and patient. “No,” she agreed quietly, “you don’t.”A pause. Then,“But you’ve also never been

Ragnar stilled, listening carefully as the footsteps echoed through the hallway.“There are about ten people coming,” he said quietly.Lance’s eyes widened. “Shit… that’s bad, right?
