I stopped in front of Xavier’s apartment building, staring up at it in confusion. Every second that passed as I walked inside felt like tiny needles stabbing the soles of my feet.

There was a sharp pain in my chest. And on top of that, something inside me was holding me back from going any further. Like whatever I was about to see would only leave me wounded.
