(ARIA'S HOSPITAL ROOM)

Aria yanked at the IV and the needle tore free from her flesh with a wet, sickening sound.

Blood erupted, streaming down her pale wrist, soaking through the white sheets, then dripping off the side of the mattress.

The door swung open on that exact second.

Emily froze in the doorway, her face draining of color. Her eyes widened and hand flying to her mouth.

"Aria—!"

Daniel was behind her, and he moved before thought could catch up—lunging across the room to Aria'

The door burst open. A nurse came first. Her eyes found Aria and the blood at once. The doctor was a step behind her; his face tightened the instant he saw the torn line and the red soaking through Daniel’s hands. Emily pushed in last, breath short, her face filled with worry. “Restrain her,” the doctor said. “Now.” The nurse yanked a drawer open and pulled out leather cuffs. The moment Aria saw them she fought. “No—no, don’t keep me here—” They took her ankles first. Then the free wrist. Daniel did not release the bleeding one until a gloved hand replaced his pressure and the last cuff locked shut. Aria wrenched against the straps with what strength she had left. The bed shuddered. The clip at her ankle shrieked in protest. “Don’t,” she gasped, voice breaking. “Don’t keep me here. I didn’t ask to wake up. I want to die. Take them off. Take them off please.” Emily was already at the rail. “Aria, please. Please don’t punish the child for something it has never done. Carry the

The door swung open on that exact second. Emily froze in the doorway, her face draining of color. Her eyes widened and hand flying to her mouth. "Aria—!" Daniel was behind her, and he moved before thought could catch up—lunging across the room to Aria's bed side. He caught her wrist in an iron grip, pressing both palms over the bleeding spot with pressure. Blood welled between his fingers anyway, defying his attempts to contain it. He pressed harder, his thumb digging into the pressure point, feeling her pulse hammering against his palm like a trapped bird. "Aria, what are you thinking?!" Daniel's voice cracked with rage and terror. "Trying to get yourself killed?" Aria didn't reply. Her eyes were wide and glassy, fixed on somet

  • CRY OR BETTER YET, BEG   I AM SORRY, ZAYNE

The doctor's lips parted, but no words came. Sweat beaded on his brow. Venom's hand shook. Her jaw tightened. For a long moment, the trigger seemed to pulse beneath her finger. Then she lowered the gun. It won't change anything. He's gone. Her arm dropped to her side, and she turned away, staring at the wall. "Get out," she commanded. "All of you. Now." They didn't need to be told twice. The doctors scrambled past her, their footsteps hurried and uneven as they fled the room. The door clicked shut behind them, sealing her in. Silence filled the room. The only sound was the soft, mechanical rhythm of the ventilator—the slow, steady beep of a heart that refused to give up but refused to wake, either. Venom turned toward the bed. Zayne lay motionless. His head was wrapped in thick white bandages, his face pale as a ghost's. An oxygen mask covered his mouth and nose. Tubes snaked from his arms, his chest, his throat. She stared at him for a long time, her lips trembling as th

  • CRY OR BETTER YET, BEG   IMPROVEMENT?

Venom stepped out of Aria's room and walked down the corridor, her legs trembling uncontrollably. At the waiting room, she met with Emily and Daniel. They both stood up the moment they saw her. "She may try to hurt herself. So, cuffs will be needed. If she hurts herself and the baby dies—I assume I don't need to explain what happens to you two."Venom said flatly. Emily and Daniel exchanged glances and immediately rushed toward Aria's private room. Her second-in-command walked to her. "My lord, I have deployed the security as you instructed. They will keep her under watch twenty-four hours, and I also provided a monitor and an infused collar to control her when needed." "Do not refer to me as 'My Lord,' not until Zayne has been buried." "My apologies, boss." She got to her car and the driver was already waiting. He pulled the door open for her and she slid in. As soon as the car started moving, tears blurred her eyes, but she fought them back and sealed them in. Her next sto

  • CRY OR BETTER YET, BEG   DIE

The ceiling stared back as her eyes grew blurry. "I did the right thing by killing him." "I did the right thing by killing him." "I did the right thing by killing him". She shut her eyes, murmuring those words to convince herself. She pressed her palm flat against her stomach this time and didn't pull away. "I have his child growing inside me? When did I take in. I tried my best to not get impregnated by him." She whispered to herself. "Yet... why am I not happy? Why don't I feel fulfilled? The war I built my entire existence around is finally over, and yet I feel empty?" Hot tears rolled down her cheeks. Soon, she heard him. Titan....Zayne...Titan...the same man, his voice came echoing in her head. "I decided to separate from my men. And to get you to the most secure place I could find—so you could grant your wish. I deserve death, and I've accepted it. I always knew I would die by your hands, and that made me happy—because it's finally coming to an end. Grant

  • CRY OR BETTER YET, BEG   THE BABY

Venom's eyes were hard as stone as she continued. "I watched him break himself apart for you. I watched him surrender everything—his empire, his pride, his life—because he thought you deserved to take it from him." Aria's chest heaved. The monitor beside her beeped faster. Venom's gaze dropped, briefly, to Aria's stomach, then lifted again. "The doctor ran some tests. You're carrying Bloodfang's heir. That's the only reason you're breathing. I was going to end you the second his heart stopped. Then the doctor told me about the baby, and I decided—for his sake—I would let you live long enough to bring the child into the Bloodfang world healthy." Aria's hand moved, almost unconsciously, toward her abdomen. She snatched it back as if the skin burned. "I don't want it. I want it out of me. I am not giving birth to any Bloodfang monster!" Venom's expression didn't change—still wearing that same dead, cold look in her eyes. "I wanted to know if you felt even a little remorse
