Chapter 4

Author: Don Dodo
In his rush to get to the hospital, Derek forgot his phone, something he never left behind. I unlocked it and scrolled to a contact saved as "Boss", then started typing a message.

"Boss" was Derek's mistress, Lily Morgan. I knew her well. I'd run into her countless times.

Derek didn't have a real job. He was pathetic and terrified of his wife. When Alessia spoke, he never dared disobey her.

But whenever his wife and daughter weren't home, he brought Lily over to fool around.

When I was home, Derek never bothered hiding it from me. He openly brought Lily to the house, made me be polite to her, had me serve them dinner, and then sent me away.

Afterward, Derek always gave me ten bucks as hush money. Since Alessia and I had a bad relationship, he was confident that I wouldn't sell him out.

For the sake of family harmony, I stomached my disgust and never breathed a word. Derek bragged to everyone about how good Alessia was to him.

People had to face reality eventually. Alessia, who'd been kept in the dark, deserved to know the truth.

Using Derek's name, I typed out a message. "Babe, I'm in the emergency room right now!"

The next message naturally included the hospital's address. Within a minute, Lily sent over a dozen messages in a row. I didn't reply to any of them.

Leaning against the couch, I figured Lily should be arriving at the hospital about now. I changed into nicer clothes and headed to the hospital to watch the show.

Before I even reached the emergency room, I heard Alessia shrieking. "Derek, you explain this to me right now! Who is this woman?"

Derek knelt on the ground, begging forgiveness. "Honey, I swear I don't know her!"

Lily wasn't backing down either. "Derek, you coward! When you had your arms around me, you didn't say you didn't know me!

"You called your wife a fat pig and said she was worse than a tiger. Did you forget all that? You even told me her useless body couldn't give you a son, so having a son depended entirely on me!"

Alessia ripped out her IV in fury and lunged at Lily like a rabid dog. "You homewrecker! How dare you steal my husband? You even had the nerve to show up at the hospital? I'll beat you to death!"

Alessia and Lily got into a full brawl. Derek didn't know which one to pull away.

His precious daughter saw her mother losing her mind but just lay calmly in bed playing games on her phone. It was like whatever happened in the family had nothing to do with her.

The hospital was full of sick patients. Being ill was already miserable enough, and now this ridiculous scene was disrupting everyone's rest. It sparked public outrage.

Medical staff and other patients' families shouted at them.

"This is a hospital! If you want to fight, go home and do it! Let people rest!"

"My dad's heart rate just hit 180! If something happens to him, you'll answer for it!"

A burly family member walked over and kicked Derek twice as he knelt there groveling. "Are you even a man? You can't even control your own women. Get them both out of here now!"

I noticed Derek kept making eyes at Lily, mouthing words silently, signaling for her to leave.

Lily had come to the city for work. She used to wait tables at a restaurant, where she met Derek.

She was lazy and didn't want to work. She wanted someone to take care of her, so she became Derek's mistress.

Lily was only a few years older than me. Derek was probably older than her own father.

She'd taken his money, so she couldn't disobey him. Lily didn't dare ignore Derek. If she lost this meal ticket, she'd have to go back to working, getting up early and staying up late. Lily was done with that life.

She played along with Derek, humbly apologizing to Alessia. "Ma'am, I'm so sorry. I mistook you for someone else. Your husband looks just like mine. Are they twins or something?"

"Are you crazy? My husband doesn't have a twin!"

Alessia suspected Lily was lying, but she wasn't about to make a bigger scene. With all these people watching, she'd take the excuse and deal with it later.

I pressed hard on the wound on my stomach. Tears immediately sprang to my eyes. The show hadn't reached its climax yet. I couldn't let it end here.

Ignoring the pain, I rushed into the ward and shouted, "Dad! Mom! Ray! Are you all okay?"

I grabbed Lily just as she was about to leave and greeted her loudly. "Lily! What's wrong with you? Why are you at the hospital too?"

Alessia was sentenced to 20 years for murder. Custody of Rayne went to Derek. He'd been living off his wife for nearly 20 years. He could barely support himself, let alone raise a child.Rayne withdrew from her private elementary school. Living with Derek, she went hungry more often than not. She couldn't afford to go to school anymore.Derek somehow found the address of the place I was renting. The moment I opened the door, he was kneeling there with Rayne."Finn, it's all my fault. I shouldn't have treated you badly. For the sake of all the years we raised you, please let Ray stay with you. I really don't have the ability to take care of her anymore."I glanced down at Rayne. The pudgy kid had turned into a stick figure.Rayne rolled her eyes at me. "Dad said you're my servant. You're supposed to take care of me. Why does he have to kneel and beg you?"This little princess I'd waited on hand and foot since childhood had never once seen me as her brother. I was just her errand

Before coming to Alessia's company, I'd already prepared the third act. The actors were in position. We were just waiting for Alessia, the audience, to arrive for the show. When Alessia went to the hospital looking for Rayne, Derek went home first. The moment he saw me at home, Derek immediately slapped me twice across the face and asked why I'd sold him out.I didn't hold back. I shouted out all the grievances I'd suffered over the years. "If you two never liked me, why did you bring me home in the first place?""Because that woman's useless body couldn't give me a son. She finally got pregnant with one and lost him. After that, she couldn't have any more kids.""It's your fault for being worthless and not being born right. Even your real parents didn't want you. I brought you home and gave you food to eat. That's already a huge favor to you."I laughed bitterly. What was the point of asking Derek for answers? This was the man who raised me. He was weak and incompetent.I told

The moment I finished speaking, the room fell silent. Alessia had clearly never expected that someone submissive like me who always took whatever came my way could say something like that. She laughed coldly. "Oh really? You think you're too grown up for me to handle now, is that it?"You want to cut ties? Pay me one million dollars for raising you. If you can't come up with it, then you'll work like a dog in that house. You don't get to have a say in anything."You want to lord it over me? Go find yourself a better family and stay the hell away from me."I knew Alessia would pull this move. For as long as I could remember, she and her husband had treated me like an enemy. If I died, she wouldn't be sad for even a second.I deliberately came to Alessia's company to make a scene because I wanted to find someone to lean on. I crouched on the ground crying, tears streaming down my face, and told them about all the injustices I'd suffered over the years. The CEO grew angrier the more

There was no sign of Rayne anywhere.Alessia went to the doctors' office and made a huge scene, demanding the hospital compensate her for her missing child. The hospital was a place for treating patients, not a daycare. The doctors had worked all night and didn't have the energy to argue with Alessia. They called the police. Alessia had just gotten out of the station and now she was going right back. She threw a tantrum, sitting in the middle of the floor and demanding the police help her find her child. Alessia's blood pressure had just come down, but it shot right back up in an instant. The murderous look in her eyes made Derek flinch. She jumped in front of me and grabbed my shirt, demanding an answer. "You jinx, you know this tramp too?""Lily is Dad's cousin. She comes over to visit all the time and even stays overnight. Dad, don't you remember her?"Alessia ground her teeth so hard that they nearly cracked. She charged at Derek and slapped him across the face over and over."You bastard! You bring women into our home behind my back? We're getting a divorce!"Derek couldn't afford a divorce. He'd been unemployed for over a year and depended on Alessia to support him. He was afraid of her mainly because he was useless and had been living off her for years. He had big ambitions, but when it came to finding work, nothing was ever good enough for him.
