GUNNAR

As the Alpha King, I'd seen and experienced countless things in my life, but never had I encountered someone like Aqua. From the first moment I woke up to see her sleeping beside me, a thought crossed my mind: she was either incredibly stupid or had a death wish.

It turned out Aqua was the kind of simpleton who easily believed what people told her. And I hated it. She would be dead by now if it weren't for an unexpected complication.

The damn submissive wolf was my second-chance mate.

I had found out about it early in the morning when I was choking her to death. The familiar white-hot pain in my chest when I was hurting someone connected to my soul was enough to make me pass out but I held onto my consciousness stubbornly. I was too pissed about her little trick to care about our bond, neither could I tolerate the fact that the moon goddess would tie me down to such a weakling.

But right now, I had no choice. As the Alpha King and her second-chance mate, I had to find a way to get her out of this mess because our life force was connected. And that meant that if Aqua died, then I would perish as well.

As I finally arrived at the underground prison where she was kept, I opened the heavy iron door open, the sound creaking through the stone corridors. Although I was blind, most people wondered how I was able to move normally. But all of that was possible through the psychic connection I shared with the wolves that followed me, granting me their vision as I carried out my daily task. They had been my allies and my friends since childhood, and they were the only ones I trusted without reservations.

The dim light from the moon cast long shadows, but I could see her huddled figure in the corner of the cold, dark cell. Aqua sensed my presence first, and looked up, her eyes widening with surprise and fear.

She whispered, “A-Are you here to kill me?”

I remained silent, examining her figure before I shortened the distance between us. Her face was scrunched with pain and I guessed it had something to do with the headaches she was experiencing since I muted the mating bond. She wasn't the only one suffering, but I saw it as a small price to pay to get what I wanted.

“I-I swear I didn't do it on purpose,” her voice trembled as she backed away, her retreat halted by the cold stone wall. “Leon tricked me into sleeping with you. You have to believe me-”

“I know,” I interrupted impatiently.

“What?” Her eyes widened in confusion. “Then why am I here?”

“Because you have no evidence to prove your innocence,” I replied calmly. “But I can help you if you give me what I want.”

The poor girl couldn't look more lost than before. “B-But what do you want from me?”

“I need you to break the second-chance bond between us,” I told her, my voice firm and intimidating. “This situation should have never happened since you haven't even found your true mate yet. So I need you to help me break it, and in exchange, I will save your life.”

Silence enveloped the room after a few seconds. I could tell that she was processing my words carefully, but I prayed that her thoughts wouldn't wander too much. Aqua's innocence was something I could use for my intentions and I would hate for anything to ruin my plans.

“But how do I break this bond?” She kept her eyes lowered, a usual sign of her submissive nature.

I replied, “Well, we can't break this bond until your wolf rank reaches dominant level. As you know, wolf energy can only be passed between mates through sex. So you and I are going to have lots of it-”

“Wait, I didn't know that!” Panic set in her voice as she walked closer towards the iron bars. “Alpha Keegan would never allow me to do something like this. What if I get pregnant?”

“I’ll take care of that for you,” I said, softening my tone since I suddenly remembered that Aqua had been a virgin until she met me. “But as far as I know, Alpha Keegan doesn't have any control over who the submissive wolves choose to mate, so why did you say he would object to this?”

I forced myself to move on. “So, what do you say, Aqua? Do you agree with my proposal?”

Aqua slowly nodded. “Yes, I agree.”

Relief flooded my body at her words. I turned around and started walking away, my mind already racing with plans about the situation at hand.

“Can I ask you a question?” Her voice traveled through the stony corridors.

I halted in my steps. “What is it?”

“Why don't you want us to be mates?” She glanced at me with her pretty blue eyes, then lowered her gaze again. “Is it because I'm a third-tier submissive wolf, or do you think I'm not pretty-”

I cut her off. “It’s because I don't think you are a good person.”

“What?”

“You heard me,” I scowled, my voice icy with disgust. “According to the laws of the lands, no one is permitted to flirt or have sex with a mated wolf, yet you were having an affair with Leon. Were you that desperate to climb up the ladder and elevate your status?”

Her voice trembled with anger as she screamed, “You don't know anything! Leon said he didn't love Juliette!”

I released a mirthless laugh. “And you believed him?”

Although she didn't respond, I heard a faint whimper escape her lips. My heart squeezed in pain, making me even angrier. “There’s a reason why the moon goddess created a mate for every wolf; they are meant to be like a missing puzzle piece to our incomplete souls. But I can see the moon goddess made a mistake in our case because there's no way you can be mine.”

The air was chilly and crisp, carrying the earthy scent of damp leaves and rich soil. The ground underneath was covered in a delicate layer of dew, glistening in the soft, early light. When everyone had finally gathered, Keegan ordered the guards to bring Aqua forward. I couldn't help but feel puzzled by how she had managed to remain a virgin despite her captivating beauty. Even in her shabby clothes, she looked stunning. Her waist-length hair cascaded down her shoulders in natural black curls. Her mesmerizing aquamarine eyes exuded purity and innocence, and a sprinkle of freckles adorned her pale skin, enhancing her delicate features. She was the type of woman who aroused a dominant male wolf’s instincts to protect, mound or…even mate. Once she saw me, her eyes sparkled as she took a couple steps towards me but the guards held her back. Although the rest didn'

I had never witnessed such a savage fight in my life, and the bone-chilling fear still clung stubbornly to my heart. His black wolf had emerged victorious, and all the wolves in the forest celebrated, bowing to his supreme dominance.I had just returned to the housing unit assigned for third-tier submissive wolves when I met Evelyn, the pack healer at the entrance. Due to her kind and magnanimous nature, she always dropped by to distribute free vaccines for us despite Alpha Keegan’s orders. “Oh, Aqua,” She embraced me with a smile. “I’m so sorry about what happened. My heart pounded in my chest, matching the rhythm of my frantic footsteps.Branches slapped against my face and arms, but I couldn’t afford to slow down. The hyenas’ eyes gleamed in the darkness, their hunger palpable. I stumbled over a root, barely catching myself before I fell. A low growl reverberated near me. Oh no. Fear surged through me, but I continued to retreat until my back hit a tree. AQUAWhen I finally jerked back into consciousness, the first thought that ran through my brain was the need to find my mate. Again. Gunnar's head snapped in my direction at the sound of my soft gasp, but he didn't move. “You're finally awake, huh?”I nodded slowly, shifting my gaze to the bonfire near him. The smell of burning wood and the crackling of the fire drifting into my nose, pulling me closer to its warmth. Trees towered above, their branches swaying gently in the night breeze, casting eerie shadows in the flickering firelight. When I moved, a sharp pain shot up my side, causing me to wince. “That's good, because we have to talk.” Gunnar threw the last piece of wood in his hands before rising to his feet. His movement allowed me to spot a wolf behind him, resting on its haunches with its front legs straight. “Tell me what you did, Aqua,” he demanded. My heart skipped a beat at the sharpness in his tone. As a submissive wolf, I had mastered all the signs most dominant wolv

  • Capturing The Alpha King's Heart.    Let's Get To Work.

GUNNARWhere the hell was she now?I kept staring at the direction my second-chance mate had gone after the little argument we had. Although I had tried my best to restrain my anger back then, her hurt and pain still buzzed down the mate bond like a white noise. She had no idea how damn lucky that my wolves were near when the hyenas attacked us. The effects of the drug were barely fading now, but if they hadn't come to our aid, we would have surely died back there. That's why I snapped at her. She might have been fortunate to survive up to now, but with this naive character, she'd be chewed up and spat out in my pack in a matter of seconds. “Damn it, she's taking too long, Odin.” I said to the gray wolf by my side. From what I could sense from the mate bond, she certainly wasn't in any form of danger, so why hadn't she returned yet? Unless...I shot to my feet, feeling my blood boil in anger as I considered the possibility of her running away. Her scent still lingered in the air, b

The bright half-moon hung high in the sky, guiding our path as we returned to the bonefire. At that moment, Odin, who was guarding the place, quietly slipped into the darkness of the forest. After a few more steps, Aqua finally stopped in her tracks. My breath caught when I turned to her. Her face was illuminated under the moonlight, highlighting her wavy black hair cascading down her back and hourglass figure. And there it was—that sexy, innocent look she had. Oh, heavens. She had no idea what she did to me when she looked at me with those mesmerizing ocean-blue eyes. It made my wolf claw through my skin, fighting for control to claim its mate.Aqua glanced hesitantly around our surroundings and asked me. “Are you sure you want us to have sex here?”“Yes, I do.” I buried my hands into my jeans pocket to keep myself from lunging at her. “Our wolves like it when th

GUNNARAqua's chest heaved in post-orgasmic bliss as she stared at me with her big, round eyes. I could tell that my words had scared the shit out of her, but my wolf, who was now in control, didn't really give a shit about her emotional state. Still, I forced myself to ask her, “Are you alright?”Sweat clung to her beautiful skin as she nodded, still catching her breath. “Yeah, that was... amazing.”My wolf growled in male pride, clearly pleased by her words. Her feminine scent lingered in the air, calming the rough edges of its desires, but I knew it craved more. “Good.” My eyes locked onto hers with an intense gaze as I leaned in, my face hovering above hers. “Then you should reward me with a kiss.”The air between us crackled with tension and desire as I parted my lips invitingly. My cock twitched in my jeans when Aqua's tongue wetted her lips before she leaned in to kiss me. Her mouth moved against mine in a slow, sensual dance, trying to mimic the way I kissed her before. It appeared that River, in an unexpected act of mercy, had allowed the survivors to return to their families, but that hardly mattered to me.He was going to pay for killing my friend.“Is it true that the pack priestess is also gone?” I asked my deputy commander, my voice breaking the uneasy silence. I had overheard a group of women murmuring about it during my visit to the grocery store. At my question, my deputy commander stiffened, a flicker of shock crossing his face before he nodded with a grave expression. I felt my fists clench at my sides, anger and confusion swirling within me. AQUA I woke up to the sound of water running somewhere. My vision blurred for a second, and then I was able to recognize my surroundings. This seemed to be River’s bedroom, a place that I had visited so many times. The room was well-lit but extremely messy, like he hadn't visited the place for a long time. There were clothes spilling out of his closet and some books scattered across the floor, the kind of mess that River would have never tolerated in the past. I tried to flex my aching limbs to adjust my position only to discover they were bound. The biting grip of the rough ropes digging into my flesh hurt enough to bring tears into my eyes. Panic instantly gripped my heart before my mind could even catch up to the situation. How the hell did I even get here? Where was River? Instinct immediately took over as I tried to retract my claws, hoping to free myself from the tight ropes. But these things were sturdier than I had anticipated, almost as if they were made from another

  • Capturing The Alpha King's Heart.    His Return to The Pack.

GUNNAR The sun was high in the sky when we finally reached the boundary of the Storm Fire pack. My men were exhausted from the heat, their bodies glistening with sweat after fighting off a pack of hyenas lingering near the territory. I could sense their fatigue through the pack link but chose not to acknowledge it. I wasn't trying to be ruthless; I knew their job wasn't unfinished. As soon as I stepped into the forest that marked our pack territory, I sensed something was wrong. The weapons the patrols were carrying were not the standard gear I had approved for pack security, which likely meant my family was in danger.I held up my hand to warn my men, who were trudging right behind me. The noise instantly faded into silence as tension seeped into the air. We watched the patrols head towards our location as we concealed ourselves behind the trees.Even their uniforms were different, I noticed when my eyes landed on a badge on one of the men's shirts. At this point, I was starting to

These were the same familiar faces that had stood in my living room just two weeks ago, offering smiles, congratulations on my engagement, and pledging undying loyalty to the Alpha King. Now, they sat cold and silent, the weight of their betrayal hanging in the air like a storm about to break. They’d all chosen Nathaniel. And that meant Gunnar’s throne…was no longer safe."What, are you surprised that we got the elders on our side?" Wilder released a low chuckle after he noticed my glare. "Don't be, darling. You'd be surprised at how dissatisfied they have been with your mate's way of doing things."At that moment, I was barely restraining myself from punching him in the fac

The fury. All these feelings struck my heart like a tempest, consuming my senses until I couldn't think anymore. My heart felt so constricted that I couldn't stand anymore, causing me to fall on one knee. When my men saw this, they immediately rushed towards me in concern, but I stopped them with my raised hand. They must have been so shocked they couldn't control their emotions because I felt all their fears crash into my heart. Was it possible they were almost scared to death because of my sudden fall? No, that wasn't it. The general sense of unease spread among the soldiers, making them jittery. I pushed myself to stand, my legs trembling as they bore my weight against the unseen burden pressing down on my heart. Then, a piercing howl sliced through the heavy air, sharp and haunting, reverberating off the trees and sending a chill down my spine. Others might not know where it came from, b

  • Capturing The Alpha King's Heart.    The Fall Of A Powerful Wolf.

AQUAThe first time I heard about hunter wolves was when I was in the Wind Ridge Pack. They were used to hunt a notorious thief who had broken into Julie's house one summer. The news spread across the pack in less than four hours, mostly because they didn't give us a choice to accept it or not. But if there was one thing I learned back then, it was that those people were ruthless. The kind of people capable of doing anything as long as they captured their prey. Some said they did it because they didn't have any other choice, considering the tight competition in the business. But others said they were psychos, people who enjoyed seeing the pain they inflicted on others. That's why I knew we were in deep shit now. The hunter wolf inhaled, breathing in the cool night air that was faint with our scents. It's the very reason why I had chosen to stay up in the trees, holding that the harsh wind current would mask our scents. But he still catches it nonetheless. “Their scents are still

But then, a sharp scream pierced through the air, followed by a series of female cries that sent a fresh wave of panic through me."Shut the fuck up!" Nathaniel barked. When the women's cries were finally reduced to frightened sobs, he muttered some words to the guards before turning to them. "I have no intention to hurt you, but if you don't tell me where Aqua and that little devil spawn are right now, then all of you are going to pay dearly for your silence."Ella remained unfazed by his threat. "Does anyone know you're here?""I don't need to report to anyone about whereabouts because this is my house," I asserted, my voice sharp and clear. I noticed he had already retracted his claws so I did the same. "What were you doing in the kitchen storage room?"It was the only place we hadn't checked in the house, mostly because Hogan had always been sensitive about letting people in. He would spend the entire day talking about food contamination so I guess all of us were just subconsciously afraid of getting on his bad side. But now, it turned out that he was the traitor we had been looking for."Move aside, Hogan," I ordered.
