For the first time in weeks, she woke up without the immediate need to run to the bathroom.

Second trimester.

Dr. Bennett had said the nausea would ease. She had been right.

Elara stretched carefully, feeling her body changing in ways that were becoming harder to hide. Her jeans didn't fit anymore. Her shirts were getting tight

The car ride home was silent. But not the comfortable silence they had developed over weeks of living together. This was different.Charged.Electric.Elara sat beside Sebastian, hyperaware of every point of contact, his hand holding hers, his thigh inches from hers, the heat radiating from his body in the enclosed space.I'm in love with you.The words echoed in her mind, over and over.He had said them. Out loud. In a room he had rented specifically to make her feel special. With a dinner he had planned around every tiny preference she had mentioned in passing. He loved her.And she.God, she was terrified.Because she felt it too. Had been feeling it for weeks, maybe longer. That pull. That need. That overwhelming sense that Sebastian Vale had become essential to her existence. The car pulled into the underground garage.Marco opened the door.Sebastian helped her out, his hand never leaving hers. They rode the elevator in silence and walked into the penthouse in silence. And then

She had been right.Elara stretched carefully, feeling her body changing in ways that were becoming harder to hide. Her jeans didn't fit anymore. Her shirts were getting tight across her chest and stomach. The baby was real now in a way it hadn't been before. She found Sebastian in the kitchen, making breakfast, a routine that had developed over the past three weeks.“Morning,” he said, looking up. “How are you feeling?”I feel good actually.” She slid onto a stool. “I feel really good, I don't feel any nausea.”Something shifted in Sebastian's expression. “The second trimester.”“I think so.”He set a plate in front of her eggs, toast, and fruit. “That's good. Three Days After The ScareElara woke to find Sebastian sitting in the chair beside her bed.Again.“You're doing it again,” she said without opening her eyes.“Doing what?” His voice was carefully innocent.“Watching me sleep. Like you have been for the past three days.”“I'm not watching you sleep. I'm working.” She heard papers rustling. “I just happen to be working here.”Elara opened her eyes. “You have an office.”“The lighting in here is better.”“Sebastian.”He set down his tablet with a sigh. “How are you feeling?”“I feel the same way I felt two hours ago when you asked. And four hours before that. And every hour since we got home from the hospital.”She sat up carefully. “I'm fine.”“Dr. Bennett said to rest…”“I've been resting for three days. I'm going insane.”“You should rest more.”“Sebastian, I'm eleven weeks pregnant. That doesn't mean I am made of glass.”“I know that.” But his eyes moved over her like he was checking for any signs of distress. “Are you having any cr

Elara woke to pain.It was sharp, sudden and low in her abdomen. She lay still, heart pounding, trying to convince herself it was nothing.Just normal pregnancy discomfort. Just her body adjusting. Just…Another cramp, sharper this time, made her gasp. She threw back the covers and stumbled to the bathroom. When she saw the spotting, her entire world came crumbling down.Blood.Not much. Just a little. But enough. No no no no no…Her hands shook as she grabbed her phone. It was barely six in the morning. Sebastian would already be gone, he had mentioned a breakfast meeting with investors. Or maybe he was at the gym. Either way, he wasn't here. She was alone. Her fingers trembled so badly she almost dropped the phone as she dialed. He answered on the first ring, voice alert. “Elara? What's wrong?”“I'm bleeding.” The words came out strangled. “Sebastian, I'm bleeding and it hurts and I don't know what to do…”She heard the sharp intake of his breath. Then car doors slamming.“How much

It was nearly midnight when someone started pounding on the penthouse door.Elara jumped, her book falling from her hands.Sebastian looked up from his laptop, frowning. “Who the hell…”The pounding continued, accompanied by a voice slurred with alcohol.“SEBASTIAN! Open up! I know you're in there!”Sebastian's expression shifted from confusion to resignation. “Fuck.”“Who is that?” Elara asked.“My brother.” Sebastian stood, running a hand through his hair. “And he's drunk.”He crossed to the door and opened it.A man stumbled in, younger than Sebastian by a few years, devastatingly handsome in that careless way some people were, wearing an expensive suit that looked like it had been slept in. His dark hair was disheveled, his tie missing, and he reeked of whiskey.“BROTHER!” He threw his arms wide. “There you are! And you're…” He squinted past Sebastian. “And you have company? At midnight? Sebastian Vale has a company that isn't a conference call? Alert the media!”“James.” Sebastia
