LOGINEveryone in the room was staring at my father in complete confusion. His hands shook as he studied the document, his eyes going wide with shock. Suddenly, he slammed the papers down onto the hardwood floor with a loud slap.
"There has been an accident!" he yelled, his voice cracking. "Mr. Whitmore's bride was supposed to be Victoria! Alessia stole her contract!" My heart dropped to my stomach. I opened my mouth, desperate to defend myself. "I did not steal anything! You handed me that folder yourself!" "Shut the hell up!" my father roared, turning on me with pure hatred in his eyes. "You are a cruel, evil sister! You deliberately tried to take what belongs to Victoria!" The crowd immediately broke into loud whispers. Harsh words floated through the air, accusing me of being sneaky and desperate. Victoria rushed to my father's side, staring at the papers on the ground in disbelief. Her eyes filled with fast tears as she forced out a sob. "How could you do this to me, Alessia?" Victoria cried out, looking at the guests. "She switched the papers on purpose! She knew Drake was wealthy and wanted him for herself!" Chaos unleashed across the room. My parents screamed at me while guests pointed fingers. Through all the noise, Drake stayed completely calm. My eyes kept darting toward him, watching his reaction. He pinched the bridge of his nose with two fingers, a look of pure frustration on his sharp face. He cleared his throat. It was a small action, but it commanded immediate silence. The entire room fell quiet instantly. "I do not have time for this," Drake said quietly, his deep voice cutting through the room. "I am marrying whoever signed the contract. The name on the paper is Alessia, and that is final." My father took a step toward him, his face pale. "Mr. Whitmore, please let us fix this. My other daughter is the one you agreed to marry!" "I said I am out of time," Drake bypassed him completely, stepping past my father as if he were invisible. "I need to leave now." My father turned back toward me, his face turning beet red with rage. He walked up to me, throwing wild insults and cursing at me in front of everyone. "I did not switch the contract!" I yelled back, tears burning my eyes. "You forced me to sign whatever was on that table!" My father raised his hand high, preparing to strike my face again. I lowered my head and raised both arms to shield myself, bracing for the hard sting. But the blow never came. Drake had caught my father's wrist midair, stopping his arm cold. "Do not touch her," Drake warned quietly, his grip firm. He let go of my father's arm, throwing it back down, before looking at me. "Come with me." I stood still, shaken and trembling from head to toe. Drake grabbed my hand and started leading me toward the double doors. I pulled back, trying to anchor my feet to the floor. "Wait!" I gasped, resisting his strength. Drake held my wrist firmly, not letting go. "I have no time for family drama. We are leaving." He pulled me out of the grand house and down the front steps toward a sleek black car parked in the driveway. Before we even reached the vehicle, the rear door swung open. A young man dressed in flashy, expensive designer clothing stepped down onto the gravel. "Did you bring the bride, Drake?" the young man called out with a lazy smirk. "Mother is waiting." He called Drake his brother. The sound of his voice hit my ears like a physical punch. It was oddly familiar, so familiar that my head began to hurt with a sudden, dull throb. We finally reached the side of the car. Drake let go of my arm and pointed toward the open door. "Get in the car." I could not move. I stared up at the man standing beside the vehicle. My breath caught in my throat, and the world around me seemed to stop completely. It was Natalie's father. The boy from college who had vanished five years ago without a word, disappearing into thin air before I could ever tell him I was pregnant with his child. He stared at me wide eyed, his smirk completely vanishing as his face went pale. I stared back, my heart pounding violently against my ribs as shock froze my blood. "Alessia, get in the car," Drake stated again, his tone sharp. "I am completely out of time." I finally managed to tear my eyes away from his brother's face, turning to look up at Drake. "I cannot go yet," I said, my voice trembling. "That is what I was trying to tell you when I pulled back inside." Drake sighed heavily, crossing his arms. "If this is about packing your clothes, you do not have to worry. I will buy you new ones." "No!" I shook my head frantically. I looked back at my ex lover, then turned my eyes straight back to Drake. "I need to get my daughter. My daughter Natalie is still inside that house."And pulled me back.I looked up, my heart stopping, only to see one of the guys—the one with the gold tooth. His hand was clamped around my ankle like a vise, and his face was sweaty and furious."Do you think you can escape from us, pretty girl?" he sneered, dragging me backward.I struggled to free myself, kicking and screaming with all my strength, but he held me tightly. His nails dug into my skin."Let me go! Let me go!"Just then, the girl came rushing out of the hole. Without hesitation, she picked up a broken brick and slammed it against his head from behind. He groaned and fell to the ground, clutching his head. She quickly helped me up. Her hands were shaking, but her eyes were fierce."I am Lora Hales," she said, breathing heavily.I looked at her in confusion. My ankle was throbbing, and I didn't know what to say.Why is she telling me her name? What does she want me to do with it? We're about to die, and she's introducing herself? She looked at me in surprise. "Wait, you
Drake lifted me into his arms."What are you doing?" I asked. He looked at me, then faced forward as he carried me toward the car and put me down."Get in. Let me drop you off.""I can't follow your mother in the other car?" I asked. He moved closer to me and said, "I'm only doing this to please my mother, so don't make things difficult for me. Get in the car."I looked at him. Of course, he could never do something like this willingly.I refused and told him I would take a taxi. Before Drake could say anything, his mother approached us."Are you two going together?"Drake smiled. "Yes.""Okay, I'm going home. Meet me there, and spend some time with your husband, Alessia. All right?""Yes," I replied.I watched as Elia, Drake's mother, got into her car and drove away.I was about to get into Drake's car so he could take me home, but he stopped me."Find your own way home. You can tell my mother I dropped you off before leaving to attend to something important."I grabbed Drake's hand.
Drake was lying on the ground.I was about to close the door when he called my name.Feeling bad for him, I walked closer and bent down to help him up. Suddenly, he grabbed me and kissed me.Oh my God! Did he just kiss me?I pushed him away, leaving him on the ground, and ran out of the room. I closed the door behind me and hurried straight to my bedroom. When I opened the door, I found Natalie sleeping peacefully on my bed. I closed the door quietly and joined her, wrapping my arms around her as I kept thinking about what had just happened between Drake and me.Eventually, I fell asleep.Morning came.I woke up early, bathed Natalie, and got her ready for school. After dressing, I took her hand and led her downstairs.Just then, I heard someone call my name. I turned and saw Elia, my mother-in-law."Where are you going with Natalie?" she asked."I'm taking her to school," I replied.Elia took my hand and said, "You are now the daughter-in-law of this family, so you don't need to worr
Enzo's phone rang.On the other end was a girl calling him. She called him, “My baby.”I was lost in thought when Enzo came out and caught me in his room.He looked at me and asked, “What are you doing here?”I hesitated to talk. I was thinking of a lie.“I lost my way. Can you point me to my room?”Enzo moved closer to me. I stepped back until I reached the wall. As he came closer, he stretched his hand toward my face. I closed my eyes. Then Enzo snapped his fingers, saying, “What are you thinking about?”I turned, only to see that he had just opened the door for me.“Go straight. You will see your room.”I went out without turning back because I was ashamed.I finally got to my room and lay on the bed, thinking about Enzo. How could I be thinking about him when I was already married to his brother?Alessia, snap out of it and forget about him.I stood up and headed to the bathroom.I was bathing when I heard someone enter my room.I was about to pick up a towel to cover myself when
"Your daughter?""Who has a daughter?" Drake looked at me as if I had committed a crime."Yes, I have a child. She is my life," I said. "If she does not come with me, I am afraid I won't be able to go with you without my daughter.""You never said anything about a child!" Drake yelled."You never asked anything about me," I shot back. "How am I supposed to tell you if you don't ask?"In my mind, I thought he would not agree to take me because of my daughter. But to my surprise, Drake said, "Don't worry. I will go and get your daughter Natalie. Stay in the car and wait for me."My ex interrupted me before I could say anything."Brother, I will also follow you."Drake smiled at his brother as they both went inside.I wondered why my ex ignored me completely, as if he was just seeing my face for the first time. My ex is Enzo Whitmore, Natalie's father.Drake went inside, calling out Natalie's name.Natalie responded, shouting that she was locked in her room.Drake told his brother to wai
