SOPHIA.
My stomach churned when I found Elias and my best friend in our matrimonial bed. I could hear their loud moans from downstairs.
Even though I took slow steps, ascending the stairs slowly, my heart kept sinking little by little the closer I got, knowing I would find my husband in our bed with another woman.
Minutes later, he was shoving divorce papers in my face and forcing me to sign them.
There was no sign. There was no warning. I never once imagined the man I loved would one day betray me like this.
This felt like a nightmare.
“Sign the divorce papers, Sophia! I want to marry Violet! She’s carrying my baby!” Elias’s cold voice sent a chill down my spine.
I glanced at the paper that he had thrown my way, my heart clenching in pain.
“And if I don’t?” I replied defiantly, not wanting to go down without a fight.
Elias’s eyes flickered with anger. He ran a hand through his hair before coming towards me and grabbing my neck.
“Don’t test my limits, Sophia. It’s either you sign those divorce papers or I force you to!”
The scene quickly changed and I realised I was dreaming. And it was a bad dream.
Elias found out I signed the divorce papers and imprisoned me.
“I’ll never let you go!” His grin was so wide it sent a chill down my spine.
“You’re mine, Sophia!”
He wrapped his hand around my neck and squeezed, blocking my air supply.
I couldn’t breathe.
I tried to scream, but my lips felt heavy.
I felt so helpless.
Was I going to be Elias’s prisoner my whole life?
My eyes suddenly shot open and I jolted up in bed, my heart pounding so violently I thought it would burst out of my chest.
For a moment, I couldn’t differentiate between a dream and reality, my mind reeling with vivid images of Elias forcing me to divorce and then locking me up when I did what he wanted.
Luckily, it wasn’t real… it was just a terrible dream. My relief didn’t last long when I became aware of my surroundings.
Looking around, my heart sank when I realised I wasn’t at the villa.
This room was unfamiliar. It was bigger, with floor-to-ceiling windows and the only two walls were white in colour, matching the silk beddings I was in.
The curtains were gray and white and there was a small sitting area near the balcony with two blue couches.
Where am I?
I didn’t have time to admire the room because panic crept into me. Did that jerk, Elias, decide to change the location of my prison?
Did someone find out what he was doing and he moved me so as not to raise suspicion?
My heart sank into the pits of my stomach.
The click of the door made me jump and I moved to the edge of the bed, my heartbeat skyrocketing as I prepared to make a run for it.
“Go away! I don’t want to see you!” I yelled, frustration rushing through me.
Why won’t he just let me go?
I was tired.
The door opened and a tall man walked in, holding a tray with a bowl on it.
My heart leaped to my throat. I was about to yell again when I froze, my eyes falling on the man who was now looking at me with his cerulean blue eyes.
In the three years that he had been gone, nothing about him had changed. He’s still as handsome as ever. Medium dark brown hair, a chiselled jaw with a neatly trimmed beard and the sexiest blue eyes I’ve ever seen.
“Lucas,” I breathed out in relief. “You’re back?”
Lucas walked into the room and placed the tray on the bedside table. He frowned and his eyes fell to my feet.
I was curious about what he was looking at. So, I followed his gaze and heat crept up my face when I saw my dirty feet.
Images from earlier flashed through my mind and I recalled how I had escaped from the villa. The housekeeper helped me out and I ran like my life depended on it.
“You need to eat something,” Lucas said in his deep voice and my stomach decided right then that it was the best time to rumble.
I placed a hand over my stomach as if it would drown out the sound but it became louder instead, making me blush profusely. How embarrassing!
Lucas let out a chuckle. He pointed at the bowl. “That’s chicken soup. Your favorite.”
My heart warmed because he still remembered what I liked even though we had not met in three years.
Lucas Hart was the second son of the chairman of the Hart Group and also Elias's uncle. They were the same age since Lucas was born when his father remarried.
Although no one knew this, Lucas and I used to be very good friends. Until, suddenly, after Elias and I got married, he became distant. The next thing I knew, he had left the country. He didn’t even say goodbye.
I picked up the bowl of soup and finished it quickly, not caring that Lucas was looking at me. I was starving. I thought Elias would let me go if I refused to eat or drink anything but the jerk didn’t even care.
After putting the bowl back on the tray, I glanced at Lucas who was standing by the door as if I would bite if he sat next to me.
“When did you return?” I asked. “Are you the one who saved me?”
I remembered almost being hit by a car and a man came out but I couldn’t make out his frame. The next thing I knew, I was in Lucas’s house.
“I just got off the plane two hours ago and yes, I saved you,” he replied. “You jumped in front of my car and almost met our maker.”
The knot in my stomach suddenly loosened at his words. I was safe here.
“Are you ok? What happened? You look a mess,” Lucas asked, his eyebrows creasing as he looked me over.
I averted his gaze, feeling ashamed. I couldn’t bring myself to answer that question.
What would I say, that his nephew went crazy and locked me up?
“I see… a lover’s quarrel?” His deep voice reached me. “I’ll call Elias and tell him to pick you up.”
My heart flew out of my chest. “No, don’t call him! We’re already divorced!”
LUCAS. “Sir, Mr Bennett is attending a charity event at a public hospital. He’s donating to the maternity ward and also doing voluntary work there,” Wilson reported as I sat on my swivel chair in my office. “Call the foundation and tell them I’ll join the event too. Donate two million dollars to the foundation and the maternity ward,” I instructed, my eyes narrowing.I had been trying to contact Gregory for the past few days, but he had been avoiding me. It’s not like I could just barge into his residence and force myself in. I didn’t want to find myself on the wrong side of the law. Now that I had so much to lose, I didn't want to find myself in a position where I would be separated from my family. So, regardless of the power I had, I opted to use a much simpler way to resolve issues. Attending the charity event is the only way I would get a chance to give Gregory a warning about his daughter. I knew he was using his influence to make her life in jail easier, but that could also l
SOPHIA. “Someone’s in a good mood,” I said, glancing at Carla, who couldn’t stop smiling to herself. “Am I?” She remarked. “I guess knowing there’s no longer someone threatening me makes me feel free and relaxed.”I arched an eyebrow. “Or maybe a certain someone is responsible for that smile.”“What?!” She exclaimed, rounding her eyes at me. “No… why would I smile because of him? We decided to just be friends. He's not available.”“I didn’t mention any names.”Her face flushed to an adorable pink. “Um… haha. I thought you were talking about Caspian. We talked it out last night and agreed to just be friends. I mean, it’s not like he had asked me out or anything. I’m the one who kissed him first, and then got pissed when things took a wrong turn,” she said, her words coming out in a non-stop sentence.I let a smile form on my lips. I guess Lucas was right. Carla and Caspian would be ok… they just needed to realise their own feelings and stop trying to run away. “Well, I wish you the
LUCAS. I stepped out of the warehouse after Olivia was dragged out by the police, giving Caspian and Carla some privacy. When we arrived on the farm, we had to take down a dozen of Olivia’s men. After interrogating them, they came clean about where Dad was being kept. I didn’t have time to ask him what was going on. After all, Caspian was depending on me to show up with backup and help him. Now that Olivia was taken down, it was time for me to get some answers. I watched as Dad glanced at Olivia, who was being dragged by the police as she struggled. She happened to see him and turned hysterical. “Steven, you asshole! My life was ruined because of you! I should have killed you when I had the chance. I should have killed all of you!” She screamed, thrashing about as if she wanted to attack Dad. I arched an eyebrow. That kind of resentment wasn’t normal. What exactly happened between those two?“You will never have peace! I curse you, Steven! YOU WILL NEVER BE HAPPY AGAIN IN YOUR
CASPIAN. Olivia’s taunting laughter reached my ears, making me coil my hands into fists. “My, my… who would have thought the great Caspian Gray would one day kneel before me? And it’s all because of a woman. So pathetic,” she sneered. Her words didn’t affect me at all. The only thing that was able to affect me at the moment was Carla’s safety. Knowing she was within reach but still in danger felt like hell on earth. A complex emotion flared through me, and I felt like I was hanging over the edge of a cliff. I needed to get her away from that man and his gun. I gritted my teeth and looked up at Olivia. How did I miss the fact that she was the bad guy all along?“I’ve done what you’ve asked. Now let Carla go, and my life will be yours to take,” I stated. “Caspian, what the hell are you doing? Get up! Do you think I will like my freedom knowing you traded your life for it?” Carla yelled.Of course, her feisty self couldn’t help but talk too much despite the scary situation she was
CARLA. The doors to the warehouse creaked open, and Olivia walked in, her heels clicking on the floor. “I hope I didn’t keep you waiting. Your man is here,” she said, a wicked smirk curling on her lips. “See… I told you he would come.”My heart thundered in my chest, beating so violently as though it would burst out of my chest at any moment. No… he shouldn't have come. When I was left alone, I tried to unbind my hands by rubbing my wrists on the ground. The only thing I got from that was painful bruises on my wrists and hands. The ropes had little to no damage. “Let me go, you crazy woman!” I yelled, glaring at her. My blood boiled, and a huge wave of heat rippled through my chest as I attempted to free my hands for the umpteenth time, but still failed terribly. This wasn’t supposed to happen. Why the hell did I leave the house tonight? I sighed in resignation. It's not like I could have known that I would be kidnapped tonight.“Let you go? Now, when did I say I would do such a
OLIVIA. I walked into the warehouse, my eyes falling on the man seated on a chair, looking frail. I didn’t bother to tie him up. He had no strength to escape. What could an old man like him do anyway?“You don’t look so good, my dear,” I said, approaching him. He glanced at me, his eyes cold. So he was no longer pretending to be nice to me. That cold gaze of his reminded me of the past… a past that was a thorn in my heart. A past when I was rejected and humiliated by this man. All I did was love him. I wanted to be his wife, the one who would stand by his side as his equal. But he trampled on my feelings like I was nothing, falling for another woman and shoving her in my face for me to see. That’s right. Steven Hart was the love of my life. Despite our age gap, I fell in love with him at first sight. I loved how powerful he was, how his presence commanded the room. And goodness, there was just something about a man with gray hair who was still hot and had a body to die for.
