LOGIN"Stabbing yourself was a very bad idea, Sera.
Is that how badly you don't want to help your dear Uncle? Remember how I took care of you." As my eyes struggled to come back to focus, memories assaulted me. How much I clung to him after losing my parents, how he defended me from Mirabel and the rest of the pack. The nights when I stayed up late weeping and he was there–offering a kind word, a smile and a glass of milk that lulled me back to sleep. I pressed my eyes shut and winced from the ache in my heart. "You're nothing but a two faced conniving bastard who took advantage of a young girl who had just lost her parents!” "Conserve your strength darling, you're headed to your new home. I had to personally escort you to make sure you didn't pull any more stunts. Thankfully, the dagger missed the vital organs.” It was then I became fully aware of my surroundings, aware of the stabbing pain that threatened to swallow me up again, to my hands and feet bound my stone cuffs that tightened with every move I made. I would never have imagined that the power that fascinated me so much while growing up was going to be used negatively against me. “Uncuff me! There's nowhere for me to run to.” “I wish I could but I can't take anymore risks. We delayed your delivery by two days just to make sure you don't die on the way.” I was out for two days. Why couldn't I have just died during that time? Shit! I was so sure I stabbed my heart. He continued, blowing dirt off his fingers. “Of course you're not fully healed, but if you end up dying in their care, that's even better for me. My pack shall be well compensated over the death of our beloved princess.” “How could you? How could you sell your niece to the people that killed her parents? Why would you do such a thing? My parents trusted and loved you so much. Why would you betray them this way?” I asked in a strangled voice, tears seeping into my matted hair. The smile on his face dried up, his eyebrows creased with anger. “Like everyone else, you only saw what they showed you, what they pretended to be. Loved and trusted me? Ha! Must be the joke of the century!” I tried to sit up but the weight of the cuffs forced me back on the stretcher. “Wh…what do you mean?” my voice shook. “I mean your parents were a bunch of hypocrites who kept up a mask. The throne of Ravencourt was always supposed to be mine. I was the first son! But your mother married your father and took over it as the first born of the family. Your father never trusted me, never gave me access to anything because he thought I was scheming to take back the throne!” Saliva flew from his lips as he barked each word. My calm look settled over my eyes. Uncle stared at me, his breath coming in short gasps and the veins on his head bulging. “Look how you've proved father right. You were indeed a thief and still a thief—” I sucked in a sharp breath, tears stinging the corner of my eyes as his fist connected with my abdomen. Without looking, I could feel the stitches tear open and blood soak the bandage that covered it. “That should keep you quiet till we arrive. I should warn you to be on your best behaviour in Wolf Noir. The pack isn't as merciful as ours and there are rumors of your betrothed having a thing for killing his relations.” I swallowed the lump in my throat and stared at the roof of the car. Darkness covered our sights for a moment as we drove through the tunnel that led to Wolf Noir pack and entered their gates. My eyes moved to the back window, taking in the sights that were just passed. It looked almost the same as Ravencourt, if anything, it seemed more lively. Murmurs of voices rose from the streets we passed, merchants advertising their goods, the shops having colourful and eye-catching visuals and the scent of pastries and coffee lingered in the air. I curled my fists, the dread that filled me earlier returning as the car branched off the lively part into a road surrounded by thick looming trees. My mind travelled to the words uncle spoke earlier. ‘Has a thing for killing his relations’ Around the same time my parents were killed, there was news that the royals of Wolf Noir had been mysteriously slaughtered with no clue on who the killers might be. Hands were pointed at the only son who survived but nothing could be done without proof. The rumor ended up ending as quickly as it began but it didn't stop the pack kings from regarding Wolf Noir with fear. It didn't help that the king was never seen after the incident, turning to a recluse yet making Wolf Noir one of the prosperous packs to exist. “We're here.” The driver called through the partition. Uncle looked relieved and immediately released the cuff around my wrist. I rose from the stretcher, a pained wince leaving my throat and placed a palm on my bleeding stomach. My wheelchair was brought down and the driver lifted me into it and wheeled me to the entrance. A group of men dressed in black suits and eyes hidden by dark sun shades stood at the entrance. “Welcome Princess Sera.” They curtsied and took over my wheelchair from the driver who returned to the car and drove off. My heart sank to my stomach, aching even more than my torn wounds at their departure. Despite the betrayal, I would rather be in Ravencourt, hating my uncle than thrust into the unknown. I was wheeled into the towering castle and straight to a room that resembled the throne room back at Ravencourt. But there was no throne here. Just a wide space with a sword stuck at the centre. Seated at the foot of the throne were three elders, faces more intimidating and dressed in grey robes. “It's our pleasure to welcome you to Wolf Noir Pack, Princess Sera. You're not what we expected, but we'll make do with you.” I curled my lips, my eyes darkening from the obvious jab and the pain that tore through me. “Thank you…I guess.” I answered. “ Before any preparations can be carried out, we have a custom at Wolf Noir which you must partake in and only if you survive will you be worthy to stand next to the king.”Sera“Calm down Sera.” I admonished myself, taking in short gasps of air.I hit my chest softly with a curled fist for it to relax but it only thumped harder and more angry.I branched off the corridor leading to my bedroom and headed towards the glass patio doors. They were unlocked so I slipped through immediately grateful for the cold night air that whipped my face. Those damn elders! I gazed into the pool which was lit by the million stars overhead, Ajax annoying voice replaying in my head.‘My duty was to bring forth heirs’I wheeled my chair closer to the pool, a ball of heat rising in my tummy and wondered if I could go for a swim in my condition.I shouldn't try it.Ajax could inform the maids or guards not to save me and inform the Alpha and people of the tragic death of their Luna by morning.I bit my lips, staring quietly into the still pool and pondered on the idea of consummation.Mother used to tell me that she and father disliked each other during the early months of t
Sera“I can't do this, Zuri. I can't even concentrate!” I whined, feeling a strain around my wrists as they hoovered around the cup of water.“Try again! This is the simplest and only way I know you can use to activate your powers. If you can't manage this, then you're entirely useless.” She retorted.I bit my lips, a dark glare coming over my eyes which I immediately blinked off.My lips parted as I took in a deep whiff of dry air and exhaled slowly before placing my hand over the cup.Her instructions played in my head: visualize the power flowing through your bloodstream, gently moving towards the tip of your fingers.Imagine lifting the water from the glass with the powers and moulding it into a ball.Sounds simple enough except I could hardly visualize anything with the image of Alaric's dead parents room flashing through my head.Focus Sera! I bit my lips till I tasted blood, closed my eyes slowly and began to visualise. What would I love my power to look like? The colour assoc
Sera“How many years has this structure been in place?”We were now making our way back into the house after Sorrel had taken me for a quick tour through the gardens, the stables that raised a number of purebred horses, and a green house which he said belonged to Alaric's mom.Now my eyes were fastened to the gargoyles placed at the centre of the compound, spitting sparkling water from its mouth.“It dates back to the early hundreds. After years of being prosecuted by the rest of the world, the ancestors discovered this land, paid a healthy sum for it and named it shadow lair.”“Then werewolf refugees started arriving, gradually filling up the town below and the name was changed to Wolf Noir pack.” Sorrel explained.I leaned back into my chair, nodding slowly as I was wheeled up the ramp and to the patio.“Do you care to explore inside?” He asked.“Yes.” The guard pulled the door open and we weaved through. He started the tour from the numerous visitor rooms that lined the entry corr
Sera The air felt sucked out of the room. I couldn't move but I felt my body recoil from him.Warning bells chimed in my head, my breath hitched and a loud thumping echoed from my chest. It wasn't a question. He was sure of it. Did Zuri reveal herself by mistake? “Zuri..” I gasped inside.“I didn't. I'm as shocked as you are.” She answered.“You don't need to grill her. Her concealment is iron clad, just not iron clad enough against me.” Alaric answered and took my food in his hands. With gentle and firm fingers, he began to massage them, moving upwards then coming down again.“I don't know what you're talking about.” I answered and tried to pull my foot away.He slapped my hands off and continued massaging them.I could almost imagine the feeling of his fingers on my legs, limbing higher with each minute before trialing back down.Maybe this would restore feelings in my legs faster.“You don't have to lie, Sera.” He replied.“I'm not. I really don't know what you’re talking abou
SeraMorning came with only one thought in mind: Find something to keep myself busy with.Preferably something to keep out of Alaric’s sight and soothe my chest from the burning anger that still remained from the previous night.By the time a maid stepped into my room to help with my morning activities, I was already cleaned up and changed into workout pants, a tabletop with a tight fitted jacket around it.“Do I bring your breakfast here?” She asked as I stepped out of the bathroom wrapping my thick curly hair in a messy bun.“Don't bother. I'll let you know when I need it.Where is the workout room?” I inquired as I pulled a pair of sneakers from the shoe cabinet and proceeded to throw them on.“ At the end of the hallway, my Luna. I can take you there if you wish.”“There won't be any need for that.” I replied.Once my shoes were fitted on, I wheeled my chair out of the room and headed for the end of the hallway. All the workers of the palace seemed to be awake and going about thei
AlaricThe door locked softly behind me and within seconds a loud crash filled my ears alongside the shattering of glass.I pressed my back against the door, fist clenched, shadows flaring and my vision almost blurry.I listened to the hard thumping of her heart, could imagine her lips parted in anger as she stared murderously at the door. Her lips.I closed my eyes and relished the taste of her that still remained on mine, my eyes going dark and the shadows raging more wildly at the thoughts. She should have died in the cave.It could have been a better ending for her. Now, I didn't know anything was going to turn out.The one thing I had to make sure of, was for Sera to continue to hate me.In any way possible. Her hatred had to remain constant.I walked away from the door the minute her heart beat turned gentle and a soft snore filled the room.I made a show of walking through the corridor where I was bound to be seen by the servants who would in turn gossip about it and it'll reac

SeraI gritted my teeth and curled my fingers around the wheels to stop us from moving.“I don't need your help. Just like I didn't need it earlier.” I choked out.“I know you don't. I'm just feeling generous.” He answered.I could almost hear the smile in his words.“Oh. One would have thought you
