FAITH

The color had been drained from his body, and his skin was still suctioned over his bones as if he had been preserved without any of the chemicals or wrappings. There was enough of him left that even though he was just skin and bones, I could picture what he had looked like when he was living, and I felt sick as I saw the giant, gaping hole in his torso.

His head was back against the throne with his bony hand on his stomach as if he had grabbed it before he was murdered and frozen in time.

The High King.

He had to have been there for at least a century.

The room around him was just as horrifying. Bones, scraps of disintegrating fabric, and even a semi-fresh body sat at his feet. It had to have been no more than a month old as it was still breaking down, and I shook with horror that people were still killing themselves over power.

I tore my eyes from him to the hand at my feet, fingers only inches from my toes. The person had been reaching, possibly running for the door, but

I started reading this book and I could not stop. I’m so in love with this esp. Kaiden and Faith. I want them to have a serious conversation about their fears because they want the same thing but won’t speak. I believe they are mates and the blood bond wore off. I can’t wait for them to realize that

KAIDEN The brightly lit, modern pack house was embarrassingly easy to break into, and I took down the guards in front of Ryan’s office within seconds. One managed to see us before I could get to him, though, and it was only a moment before an alarm sounded. That did nothing to stop me, but the sound of footsteps rushing through the house filled me with excitement because I could distinctly hear the difference between the wolves running to arm themselves and hide and the panicked steps of their Alpha. He had to have known that I would come for him one day. I turned, heading back down the hallway as my team cleared the area, dropping guards like flies as I followed Alpha Jones' scent straight to his room. I kicked the door open and found Ryan hunched over a chest at the foot of the bed. I charged at him just as he pulled out a gun, and just from the smell of it, I knew it had silver bullets. He didn't know silver didn't work on me the same as it did the rest of our kind, and it

FAITHI wasn’t sure why I had expected Kaiden to be stealthy. I should have known better.Instead, he marched right past the patrol, barely sparing them a second glance before he took care of them. He cut them down like butter, and I was stunned that anyone could do so much damage with such little effort. Guards on both sides of him grabbed the wolf carcasses, dragging the lifeless creatures behind them. I stepped carefully around the trail the bodies were leaving in the dirt before hurrying after Kaiden. “Buckle up, Buttercup,” Nova whispered to my right with a smile, but a whistle from ahead caught my attention, and I looked up just in time to see the front line of guards and Kaiden slink off into the trees. The sun hadn’t even gone down yet, and I was stunned at how easily they all vanished into the forest. I felt for Kaiden in our bond and was surprised to feel a rush of excitement from him. “What do we do? What's the plan?” I asked, continuing forward as the guards dragging

FAITH“Faith,” An annoyed voice whispered, and I groaned, moving the blanket up to my chin as I rolled over. “FAITH!” My eyes shot open as I sat up in bed, and a crack of pain erupted in my head. Nova fell back onto the floor as we both grabbed our heads, and I groaned as tears filled my eyes and my nose began to burn. “For a human, you have a hard-ass head!” Nova shouted, and I groaned, fighting the urge to cry as I blinked through the pain to glare at her before realizing she was right. There was no way I could have hurt her just now, but I still couldn’t feel my wolf. “For a wolf, you shouldn't have even felt that. Maybe you’re just becoming weak,” I groaned and leaned to the side quickly as she kicked her foot up in my direction from where she lay on the floor. “Why are you waking me?” “Because we are going on a trip.” She said, lowering her hand from her forehead and smiling up at me. “Why are you doing that?” I asked, and her eyebrows pulled together with confusion. “Doi

KAIDENI could see the desperation in her eyes. She wanted me to tell her the truth, but I couldn’t. There was no way I could look into her eyes and tell her that they had wanted to all sample her blood to do the same thing I was. I hadn’t pieced it together that Cain was trying to become the High King, but I had noticed his strength increasing and his use of magic. Now, it seemed so obvious. It only made sense that he had figured out a way to take the magic from his mates before he killed them. From the day I brought Faith home, I had ordered Juliana to figure out the same. She had been using Faith’s blood to find answers, and if Faith knew that… I couldn’t let her find out. It was best that she just believed I had Juliana using her blood to track her location so I could keep her safe.“I will not let them kill you,” I said slowly and clearly, hoping she heard the seriousness of my tone. There was no way I would let anyone hurt her.“That wasn’t my question.” Faith sounded disap

FAITHI couldn’t tell Kaiden what I had seen because I wasn’t sure if it had been real. How could I tell him I thought the dead, mummified century-old High King had moved?I couldn’t. There was no way he would believe me, and I doubted he would want to turn around and go back to check. Even then, he had just announced not to one but to seven other Alphas that he was planning on using me to piss Cain off and then use me as bait, so what did it matter? I owed him no loyalty. I had known it all along. It was the whole reason why I was here. Still, I couldn’t stop the sickly empty feeling at the center of my chest that grew larger each time I thought about it. It was sex. There was nothing more between us.I released Kaiden’s fur from my fists as I climbed off him, unable to meet his gaze. Still, I opened the bag and pulled his clothes out for him. His fingers brushed mine as he took them from me, and I pulled away quickly, almost dropping his clothes in the process. “I know you’re m
