Kimmy’s POV

A rapid insistent knocking at my front door dragged me out of a heavy, restless sleep.

My head throbbed, my eyelids felt like they were lined with cement, and my throat was dry as paper. Between pacing half the night, fending off the mental exhaustion of my own performance, and knowing Thaddeus was brooding just a few feet away through the wall, my brain had refused to shut off.

The knocking came again— louder this time, fluttering against the heavy wood.

  • Playing With The Devil   Over The Line

Kimmy’s POV Before I could even process the words coming out of his mouth, Thaddeus closed the last inch of space between us. His mouth came down on mine with a heavy, desperate heat that took my breath away instantly. It wasn't a gentle kiss, and it wasn't a slow ask. It was rough, demanding, and full of the dark hunger he had been holding in for the last two days while I was locked away. His large hands slid right beneath my hoodie, gripping my waist so tight his fingers dug into my skin. He lifted me slightly, setting me right onto the edge of the island counter so I was sitting level with him. The cold stone bit into the back of my thighs through my shorts, but the rest of my body was completely engulfed in his heat. "Beau—" I managed to gasp out against his lips, my hands slamming against his broad chest to hold him back. He didn't stop. He nudged my knees apart with his thighs, stepping right between them so I had nowhere to retreat. His hands moved up my ribs, his thumbs t

  • Playing With The Devil   Raw Truths

Thaddeus POV The wide, terrified look in Kimmy’s eyes hit me right in the chest. She was pressed hard against the edge of the island counter, her back completely flat against it, staring up at me like I was a wild animal about to snap. I could see the tiny tremble in her lower lip, the pale color of her skin, and the way her chest was heaving beneath her oversized hoodie. I took a slow, deep breath, forcing the wild heat in my head to cool down just a bit. The manic flare in my eyes receded, smoothing out as I forced myself to settle, but the heavy, possessive knot in my gut didn't loosen an inch. I didn't back away. I didn't apologize, and I certainly didn't take back what I had just said. If anything, seeing her stand there trapped between my body and the counter only solidified the dark truth I had been carrying around for months. Without breaking eye contact with her, I casually reached my left hand right behind her waist, leaning in just enough to turn the knob on the stove.

  • Playing With The Devil   Crazed Eyes

Kimmy’s POV After two long days locked away in the guest room, standing in the main living space felt almost surreal. I had decided to make a simple dinner for both of us—a classic, homemade macaroni and cheese. It was simple and comforting, and it gave me something to do with my hands while the apartment grew quiet. I stood over the kitchen island, stirring the elbow pasta with a wooden spoon as it boiled, before turning to grate a thick block of sharp cheddar onto a wooden cutting board. I was actually starting to relax a bit, just focusing on getting dinner ready and enjoying the silence. Because I was so focused on what I was doing, I didn't hear the light thud of bare feet on the floor behind me. I didn't hear him step into the room at all. I was only alerted to his presence when two broad, solid arms wrapped securely around my waist from behind, pulling my back flush against his broad chest. A tiny gasp escaped my lips, my fingers dropping the cheese grater onto the board w

  • Playing With The Devil   Breaking The Silence

Kimmy’s POV Two days in a single room is a long time to sit with your own thoughts. I spent forty-eight hours locked inside the guest bedroom, letting out everything I had been desperately holding back. The moment I had turned that lock two nights ago, my knees gave out and I cried my eyes out onto the pillows. I had held back my tears out in the hallway because I refused to break down in front of Thaddeus. I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of seeing how deeply his harsh, cruel words had cut into me. But once I was behind closed doors, the pain, the betrayal, and the sheer humiliation tore through me. To keep myself from continuously dwelling on how he went off on me, I worked myself to a stupor. I pulled out my laptop, plugged in my hard drives, and spent those entire two days glued to my screen, meticulously editing every single raw photo from the fashion campaign shoot with Sarah. I touched up lighting, adjusted color balances, and cropped hundreds of frames until my f

  • Playing With The Devil   The Price of Rage

Thaddeus POV It had been two whole days since I last set eyes on Kimmy. Two full days since I lost my head, went ballistic, and screamed at her in the doorway like a lunatic while she was literally collapsing from exhaustion right in front of me. Ever since she shut that guest room door and turned the lock, she had made it her mission to avoid me completely. It was like she did everything in her power to ensure our paths never crossed. She was living like a ghost inside my own apartment, slipping through the shadows only when she knew for a fact I wasn't looking. I was slowly losing my mind. I couldn't sleep. I couldn't eat. I couldn't function like a normal human being. For forty-eight hours, I spent almost every single hour sitting on the couch in the living room with my laptop open on the coffee table, pretending to review financial documents and security reports. But my eyes barely read a single line of text on the screen. All my efforts to distract myself with work were comp

  • Playing With The Devil   Too Far

Kimmy’s POV Opening the apartment door, I was met with an enraged Thaddeus. He was standing right in the middle of the living room rug, bathed in the low, yellow glow of the counter lamp. His arms were locked tight across his chest, his mouth set in a hard line, and his eyes completely dark with anger. I had already set my heavy camera bag down on the floor near the doorway, utterly dead on my feet after working twelve straight hours. But the pure hostility on his face made me freeze right on the entryway mat. I took a small step forward, trying to break the heavy tension in the air. "Beau—" "Don't come near me," he snapped. He didn't just say it—he spat it out with so much spite that my body flinched on pure reflex, pulling back before I could even stop myself. He didn't care that I flinched. He didn't even pause to check himself. Seeing me pull away only seemed to make him angrier. He uncrossed his arms and stalked right up to me, crowding my space so fast I had to tilt my he
