Chapter Two

Jett Luciano pov

She moved quickly after that. Fresh bandages were used. Clean shirt. I stood up, pulled on my jacket, and

walked out of the hospital room. Every swing of my arm sent a sharp sting through the shoulder,

but I did not slow down.

Outside, the black BMW was already waiting.

I settled into the back seat, leaning my head against the leather, the city was already busy under the morning sun. My shoulder burned with every bump in the road.

The city moved past the windows, bright and loud, but inside the car everything felt heavy.

I closed my eyes for a moment, and the memories rushed in.

The damp warehouse. The tention and cheap whiskey. The Gunfire exploding behind me. How my dad crashed into my arms and his blood soacking through my shirt.

Grief. Rage. A burning need for revenge. It all sat in my chest, making it hard for me to breathe. My father’s face flashed in my mind. Not the dying one, but the strong, commanding man he had always been. Now I was supposed to fill those shoes. Alone.

but my mind stayed fixed on one thing.

Her.

I didn’t know her name. I didn’t know why she was there that night. All I knew was that she had crawled into my head and refused to leave. The thought of finding her, of making her mine, was the only thing that felt good in this fucked..up morning.

I was going to make her mine and thats certain.

The car stopped outside Luciano Holdings. I stepped out from the car. The moment I walked into the company building

I straightened my jacket, ignoring the sharp sting in my shoulder.

The whispers started flying.

“I heard he is the new CEO now.”

“Damn, he looks even better up close.”

“Look at that body… well dressed and that scent. I wish he would notice me.”

More voices followed me into the elevator.

“Good morning sir,” some of them said properly. Others kept whispering behind my back.

“I heard he can have any woman he wants. Urgghh, that is exactly the kind of man I want.”

I turned and looked straight at her then cleared my throat loudly. She faced the wall quickly and stayed silent until the doors opened.

The elevator doors opened on the top floor. My secretary was waiting, spine straight.

“Good morning, Mr. Luciano.”

“Are they all inside?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Then let’s get this over with.”

She hesitated.

“Your shoulder..”

“I’m fine.”

“The doctor said you should rest.”

“Then tell the doctor to run the company.” My voice stayed flat.

She dropped her eyes.

“Yes, sir.”

The boardroom went silent the moment I walked in. I took the seat at the head of the table that

used to belong to my father.

The room was quiet. I sat down slowly , still feeling pain on my shoulder.

Steve cleared his throat.

“Mr. Luciano… before we begin, our condolences on your father’s passing “

“Save it,” I said. “Tell me why this family lost eighty-eight percent of its assets in the last six months.”

Mr Steve cleared his throat and started first. “We are terribly sorry, but it was possible to regain only 12 percent of your family’s assets. In the future, we recommend a major heterogeneous investment portfolio.”

I stared at him, not with a smile . “You recommend? This whole deal was also your fucking recommendation Steve. Three securities. We were moving serious money and you only sent three men. Are you all serious right now?”

Steve shifted in his seat. “I had no idea it would turn out that way. We checked every area. Everything looked perfect .”

I leaned forward even though it hurt. “I need a full refund. And ten percent interest by the end of the month.”

One of the board members in the grey suit shook his head. “That is impossible.”

I slammed my hand on the table. “How the fuck did this happen?

Another guy cut in. “You can ask Mrs Bell. And forgive my language but you need balls for this job.”

One idiot in grey started sliding his chair back like he could actually leave.

“Sit the hell down,” I said.

“I think this conversation is over,” he replied and stood up anyway.

“Stephen.” My voice went low. “Sit. Down.”

He didn’t move.

“I think your emotions are running this meeting. Your father died yesterday.

You’re angry. I get that. But this company cannot be run like a criminal operation.”

Silence dropped over the table like a blade.

I stood slowly.

“Sit. Down.”

Stephen turned toward the door.“I won’t be threatened.”

I gave a small nod. One of my men stepped forward. The barrel of a gun pressed against

Stephen’s temple.

Stephen froze.

“Five seconds,” I said.

“You wouldn’t—”

“Four.”

Sweat broke along his hairline.

“Three.”

He dropped into the chair so fast the wood cracked.

I looked around the table slowly.

“Anyone else want to test my patience today? Anybody else got something stupid to say? Huh!”

Nobody moved. Nobody breathed loud.

“Good. Now sign the agreement.”

Pens moved. One by one. When the last signature landed I gathered the papers and stood.

“Meeting’s over.”

By the end of the hour they all agreed. Every single one of them signed off on my terms. Full refund plus the ten percent. No arguments.

I pulled out my phone and dialed before the numbers

finished lighting the screen.

“Update,” I said the second the call connected.

Grego’s voice came through, edged with something that almost sounded like triumph.

“We found her, boss.”

I stared at my reflection in the polished steel.

“The girl from the pier?”

“Yes.”

“Where?”

A pause.

“She’s not in the city anymore.”

My grip tightened until the phone case cracked.

“Then where is she?”

Another pause. Longer this time.

“Sicily. But according to the latest, they’re leaving for Poland. For her birthday.”

I went completely still.

After all the blood. All the chaos. The one face I couldn’t stop seeing was standing on the other

side of an ocean, completely unaware I was already coming for her.

“Boss?” Grego said.

“You still there?”

My mouth curved, slow.

“Book the jet. Tonight. And send me every track of her movements you can find. Then message the others there will be an investigation on my father’s death.”

The elevator doors opened. I stepped into the lobby, phone still pressed to my ear, already three steps ahead everyone in the building.

As I walked out the female staff whispers followed me again down the hallway. Part of me liked the attention. But most of me kept thinking about her.

The woman from the pier. And I will definitely get her for myself.

Stephen should have been used as a deterrent to the others, even though he eventually sat down

Chapter fifty nine Laura’s POV Jett did not want me to leave the building."I’d rather not you going."His expression was as stern as the text he received earlier about the courier. He stood in the doorway of the study, his phone still in hand. The lockdown had been in place for days. The extra men were still in the halls. Michael had barely spoken to anyone since Becky’s last visit."It’s not far. Just meeting up with Becky.""After everything that’s just happened, you want to sit in a car outside?""I want to breathe clean air. I want to be able to spend time with my friend without three of your men smothering me."He stared intently. Still obsessed, but not quite as bad as usual. Holding onto his personal views calmly."Davis can go with you. Just stay where you can see the car. Don’t get out of the car in an open area. Don’t change areas. An hour.""An hour and a half.""An hour."I didn’t dare argue anymore. One final kiss and he let me go.---Becky had chosen the meeting plac

Chapter fifty eight Laura’s POV He didn’t speak as he led me down the hallway.Jett’s hand was firm against my lower back, keeping me close but not pushing me forward. It was dead silent in the penthouse. Michael was still sat in the living room turning over Becky in his mind. The door to the study was still open and the soft light of the desk lamp could be seen.Once I was in the bedroom, Jett shut the door but didn’t lock it. He moved to press his back to it and stared at me like he had done when he read my message on my phone."You’re still tense."He didn’t ask it as a question."You left me just like that," I replied. He exhaled slightly. Like he was trying to laugh but couldn’t be bothered. He stepped away from the door and slowly approached me. When he got closer he didn’t rush. He reached out and gently ran his fingers through my hair. His fingers brushed against my temples before trailing down my jaw."I had work to do and there was a picture of you standing on your own ou

Chapter fifty seven Laura’s pov The silence that settled over the house after Becky had gone was somehow different from the silence that had existed before she had arrived.I still held the container that she had given to me for my soup, which was no longer as warm as it had been before she left. Michael, on the other hand, remained rooted to his spot near the windows, his gaze fixed upon the doorway, as if expecting Becky to return and provide him with an explanation of whatever it was that he thought he had missed.“She left too fast,” Michael finally stated, with his gaze still fixed upon the doorway.I set down the container that I held. “She always leaves like that,” I responded.“No, she does not,” he replied, turning his head slightly so that he was facing me. “When she has a point to make, she usually takes the time to make that point before she leaves the room. However, today, she made the point, and she did not even give us the chance to ask her any questions about what sh

Chapter fifty six Laura’s POV I stayed on the edge of the bed longer than I was meant to.The shirt Jett had pulled off me was still on the floor. The bedsheet’s looked messy from all the touching. My skin felt too warm where his mouth had been, and the unfinished ache between my legs hadn’t gone anywhere.Down the hall, I could hear the low sound of his voice in the study. Short sentences from all the back-and-forth calls he was making. The kind he used when he was working through something that made him dangerous.I pulled the shirt back on and walked out.The penthouse felt different under lockdown. More Quiet. Cameras everywhere and the extra men they didn’t speak much. They stood there like if they had moved, they’d be killed by the almighty Jett. Doors that used to stay open were half-closed. Even the air seemed thicker.Michael was in the living room, standing near the windows with a glass of water he didn’t seem interested in drinking. He looked over when I came in. His eyes

Chapter fifty five Laura’s Pov Jett came home like a storm that had decided to be quiet.I heard the elevator, then the low exchange of voices in the entryway. Davis. Someone else. Instructions given in short, flat sentences. By the time he walked into the living room, the air in the penthouse had already changed. Two more men than usual stood near the main hallway. Another checked the terrace locks. No one looked at me directly, but every movement said the same thing: no one leaves, no one enters, nothing moves without permission.Jett’s eyes found me immediately. He crossed the room, took my face in both hands, and kissed me hard enough that my back met the wall. Not rushed. Not messy. Just deep and thorough, the kind of kiss that left no space for air or doubt. When he finally pulled back, his thumbs stroked along my jaw while his body stayed pressed to mine.“You’re not going out again,” he said against my mouth. “Not today. Not tomorrow. Not until I say otherwise.”“What happen

Chapter fifty fourJett’s Pov I left the penthouse with the engine already running and Grego on speaker before the garage door finished opening.“Talk.”“Secondary account moved money through a private terminal near the old freight yards,” he said. “Small amount. Clean enough to look like noise if you weren’t already watching for it. We caught a figure on one camera near the drop vehicle.”“Face?”“No. Hood up. Bad angle. We’re pulling everything in a six-block radius.”“I’m on my way. Have it ready.”Davis followed in the second car. The city slid past in streaks of light and wet asphalt. No one on my payroll needed instructions when the tone in my voice changed. By the time I walked into the warehouse, the metal table was cleared, the laptop open, and two of our tech men were working secondary feeds in silence.Grego turned the screen toward me without preamble.A grainy still filled the display. Dark coat. Hood pulled forward. The figure stood beside a black sedan with one hand on
