I clutched the strap of my handbag as I stood there shyly with my face flushed.

People in the private room looked at me. It was my first time attending this kind of gathering after my mother urged me to get a boyfriend.

The room was already fully seated, so I did not know what to do at the moment.

The organizer, Kevin Cooper, pulled me into the room with a friendly smile.

Everyone in the room tried to make me feel welcome. It was supposed to be a simple party, but it was, in fact, a group blind date setup.

Kevin’s warm hand brushed my skin as he pushed me to his chair and gestured for a waiter to come over. “What would you like to drink? Help yourself.”

It was only then that I saw the man clearly. He was a little over 5’9” with a strong, muscular build. His face was sharp, rugged, not one of those “pretty-boy” types. He looked so mighty that I almost wanted to salute him.

He was definitely my type.

I tried to calm myself. I brushed aside my thoughts and stared straight ahead, but my gaze accidentally dropped to his slight bulge.

I blushed.

While I was dazed and lost in thought, a long-haired woman playing poker at the next table giggled. “Kevin, you’re so aggressively considerate.”

Kevin scratched his head, and his sun-kissed skin turned red.

“Focus on your own game. Watch out for bluffs.”

The people laughed, and I was at a loss. He seemed to be someone important in this circle.

The waiter brought a chair over, and he sat down next to me.

As my best friend always said, my appearance did not match my personality.

This Peter Pan collar and jumper combo made me look youthful and energetic yet obedient and proper.

Even if I wanted him, I still acted nonchalant.

Every time he got up and helped get me drink, he always leaned into me close enough for me to feel his warmth.

Our skin touched, and his masculine fragrance filled my nose. I felt restless.

At dinner, with everyone on the same page, I was seated right next to him.

“Just eat what you want. Help yourself!”

He served a piece of fish onto my plate and motioned me to try it.

His voice was gentle and kind, which made me feel dazed.

“I want to try it,” I blurted out my inner thoughts, and both of us were stunned.

“Sure!” He flashed me a smile, though I was not sure whether he understood what I was implying. He picked up a piece of steak from another plate and put it onto mine.

I thought about whether his lips were as soft as his words, and whether he could feed me in another way.

The sudden fantasy triggered my nerves, which made me subconsciously gasp.

It was terrifying.

All the dishes were served very quickly.

Someone took out a bottle of whiskey that he had brought. He bragged about it being a vintage brew we all had to try.

A dozen people were excited, except Kevin.

“Aren’t you going to try it?” I held my glass with both hands and smiled softly.

He shook his head. “It’s better for one person to stay sober when everyone else gets drunk.”

I nodded in agreement.

He was ten years older than me, so he indeed thought about most things. My attraction toward him just caught me off guard.

The way Kevin took care of me made my heart beat faster for some reason.

People talked loudly because they were getting drunk.

A chubby man was quarreling with a slim man.

“What the heck did you say? I dare you to say it again!”

He slammed the table and shot up. The impact made his chair fall backward.

It was too noisy, and I gasped.

Kevin held my hand under the table.

He mouthed two silent words to me, “Don’t worry.”

The quarrel was still going on, but I looked down with a racing heart.

The argument became louder and more heated. Other than a few people trying to pull them apart, everyone else stepped back to give them space.

Kevin moved his chair and leaned closer to me.

His breath grazed my skin, and it made my skin tingle. My heart raced.

My palms started sweating.

His grip tightened, and I squirmed.

Kevin immediately asked, “What’s wrong?”

His deep voice made me shiver, and I stammered.

The “catch-them-in-the-act” showdown happened in the business suite in Baycrest Hill. From my phone’s surveillance feed, I watched a shocking scene: a chubby woman punching a skinny woman. The skinny woman was Yvonne. Her piercing screams echoed through the hallway. The scene in River City was replayed. Yvonne’s fair skin turned red and swollen. Her hair fell messily around her shoulders. She looked embarrassed.“You homewrecker! How could you seduce my husband? You trash!”She grabbed Yvonne’s hair and slammed her head to the floor. Yvonne’s blood stained the carpet.“My… my baby…” Yvonne said weakly. The shockingly bloody scene startled everyone. Someone yelled, “Quick! Call the ambulance! She might die!”The hotel service was efficient. Soon, the ambulance arrived.Yvonne was sent to the hospital, and the fat lady was taken to the police station.Meanwhile, I closed the surveillance feed, smoothed my clothes, and calmly walked out of the room next door. Then, I checked out

“Video? What video?”She leaned back in the chair with her arms folded as she looked at me mockingly.“You fooled me!”My heart sank. My face twisted in anger as I tried to speak, but the words felt stuck.“Yes, I fooled you. So? You’re just a woman Kevin could hook up with over a meal. How valuable can that make you?”She mocked me, and I felt embarrassed. She stared at me like she could see right through me.After a long pause, she said, “Do me a favor again, and I’ll give you the video.”Her tone shifted instantly. She stood and tossed a folder at me like she had been waiting for this exact moment.“Seduce him. Make him get a divorce.”“Hold on, are you insane? Your marriage was a mess, and now, you want to destroy other people’s marriages? Why? Just so you can take out your bitterness on the world?”Her glare made it impossible to refuse. I swallowed and nodded.Yvonne’s target was Jayden Cooper, Kevin’s brother. From the moment I met him, I could see the resemblance t

I trembled. I did not feel the heat and desire for him as before. I just felt indifferent.I could not help but mutter under my breath, “Yvonne, please hurry!”After a few deep breaths, I pushed him away.I said, “My stomach hurts. I need to go to the washroom.”I turned around, got off the bed, and walked to the room door. Kevin asked from behind me, “Why don’t you use the washroom in the room?”I froze, realizing he meant the semi-transparent glass in the room. Kevin knew what I was thinking.I ran out with a red face. A while later, a text popped up on my phone.[We’re ready.]I stopped running and slowly walked back to the room. When I returned to the room, Kevin pulled me over with a smile. He kissed my forehead and asked in a husky voice, “Are you ready?”‘Ready? Ready for what?’ I thought.I looked at him in confusion. He pinched my nose. I wanted to roll my eyes at him.I was very good at playing dumb.“Can we shower first?”I reached out to put my hands on his

“Your video’s still with him. You want it back, don’t you?”She curled her lips in a mocking smirk. When I recalled what happened in his car last night, my face flushed.I had made a mistake. I looked at her guiltily, and I murmured, “I was deceived.”I fiddled with my phone in irritation. Another text popped up, and a bad feeling settled in my chest.“Is that him?” Yvonne asked cheerfully.I looked at the name on the incoming text and awkwardly nodded. I swiped the screen open and handed my phone to her.“Say yes to him.”Her voice was firm.I was stunned. ‘What? Say yes to what?’I was puzzled, and I opened the texts. My breath caught in my throat, and my heart skipped a beat.Just as I expected, Kevin’s next text pushed further. He asked me to join him for a weekend trip to a nearby city.Did I just become a pawn in their game? I gripped the edge of my phone and asked, “Aren’t you afraid I’ll actually fall for him? Then, you could lose everything.”She raised her eyebr

I wanted to push him away, but my body would not obey me. I felt drained of strength.“Don’t move. Somebody’s outside,” he whispered in my ear, and his breath grazed my skin. It startled me and made me want to struggle out of his grasp. His fingers brushed against me, and I had to bite my bottom lip hard just to keep from moaning.“You like that, don’t you?”The scorn in his voice hit me like a bucket of ice water. I snapped out of my daze immediately.“You…” I said in a trembling voice. I was no longer blushing.I pushed him away, and Kevin lifted a hand to his nose. “So wet…” A mix of embarrassment and humiliation rang in my mind at his insult.Without another thought, I slammed the door behind me as I bolted. He laughed behind me.In a daze, I left the restaurant. I was still in a daze and only calmed down after finishing a whole bottle of ice-cold water in the street.I walked toward the parking lot.My phone suddenly rang. A sharp ringtone suddenly cut through the silence. The heated passion instantly faded.Kevin gestured for me to be quiet. It was only after I nodded that he turned around, opened the car door, and answered the phone.I was very anxious. However, when he came back, he acted as if nothing had happened. He told me to fasten my seatbelt and just stepped on the accelerator to start driving.I was never the overly eager type to begin with. He rolled down the window, and I instantly snapped back to my senses. This time, he drove very quickly. It was a twenty-minute journey, but he dropped me off at the entrance of my apartment in just ten minutes.“You…” I wanted to say something, but my sense of shame went into full swing in the face of his total composure, so I did not finish my sentence in the end.He caressed my hair with a smile. “See you next time.”I obediently nodded and went home.Maybe because I had not felt this kind of sensitive touch for a long time, I had a night of h
