Chapter 5

Author: Flori
The microphone screeched with a sharp, piercing noise. Right after that, the entire auditorium fell completely silent.

Maya was the first to snap out of it. She rushed toward me like she’d lost her mind, trying to snatch the microphone out of my hand.

“You’re talking nonsense!” she shrieked. “Everyone, look! He’s the one who messed up, and now he’s upset about it and trying to slander me!”

Wayne finally came back to his senses and yelled toward the crowd, “Don’t believe a word he says! I’ve been valedictorian for three years. I’ve always treated everyone well. How could I possibly do the things he’s accusing me of?”

Without saying another word, Maya swung her hand, aiming to slap me. This time, though, I didn’t let her. I grabbed her wrist mid-air and flicked it aside. She staggered from the force and fell straight into Wayne’s arms.

“Maya,” I said, voice ringing through the hall, “you have no right to hit me.”

Her tears fell instantly, as if on cue.

“Dylan,” she whimpered, “I’m

I frowned, giving her a suspicious look.“What did I do to make you think that?” I asked.“My mom’s told me. You told the police you weren’t going to make me pay back that money. If that’s not love, then what is? I really do recognize that I was wrong, and for that, I’m truly sorry. Let’s move forward. You go to college, and I’ll stay home and take care of you… as your devoted partner. How about that?”I shot her a disdainful look.“Maya, I’m not going after that money because I feel sorry for your mom and Wayne’s dad. They’re both good parents, and they shouldn’t have to carry such a heavy burden because of your mistakes. But make no mistake, I will still hold you legally accountable.“Another reason I’m letting this go is that I don’t want to be tied to you in any way. Even if I force you to repay me, you can’t afford it, and then I’ll have to stay involved. I’d rather just walk away.“Maya, the only thing you can blame is yourself for wasting a perfect hand. Accept the consequ

  • Changing My Fate   Chapter 9

“You two really are a perfect match, aren’t you?”Just thinking about how, in my previous life, all the money I gave Maya for more than twenty years ended up in Wayne’s pockets… made my blood boil. I wanted to tear him apart right then and there. However, I held myself back because what I was about to show them hurt even more. With one tap of my finger, the screen lit up with the video where they were hanging Casper upside down, threatening me, and demanding I kneel and apologize.“You think I went to that remote place without preparing anything? I had a hidden camera on me the whole time.”The moment the students below the stage saw the part where Casper was killed, chaos broke out. A lot of the girls burst into tears on the spot.“What did the dog ever do wrong? Why would you hurt a dog? Wayne, you’re disgusting!”This time, every cup of coffee and water bottle was thrown straight at him.In the middle of the chaos, a middle‑aged man suddenly rushed onto the stage. He grabbed

“I… I didn’t think that the two of them would really go that far.”I took over, continuing firmly, “That’s why you, Wayne, deliberately got close to me and constantly whispered in my ear about how hard things were for Maya. You even created opportunities for us to spend more time together.“But that’s not all. You went and studied psychology on your own, constantly hinting in my ear that I was in love with Maya—that I loved her so much I couldn’t help myself… and I fell right into your trap! Even though Maya kept teasing me, playing hot and cold, never once saying she liked me, I still willingly gave everything for her! You two are horrible!”The crowd erupted into murmurs of shock.Maya’s face went an even darker shade of green.“No! Don’t listen to him! That list is fake. I never took his things!”Just then, a broken, choked voice came from the audience. “I can prove it… That list is real because I wrote every single entry!”With tears streaming down her face, Maya’s mother st

This time, though, I finally caught a clue. I suddenly remembered that when Maya went on her “business trip,” I’d seen a photo Wayne posted on social media, and he happened to be in the same city as her. When I connected that with everything else that had happened, the truth became obvious. If she’d gone to a proper hospital for an abortion, there was no way she would’ve ended up with surgical tools that weren’t sterilized properly. So it must’ve been at some cheap clinic or even an illegal one.She was twenty-one then—a junior in college. In my previous life, it was around this same time that Maya was sick for several days, and when I tried to visit her, she refused to let me come over.In fact, right before she fell sick, she’d even asked to borrow money from me. Back then, I was fighting with my parents, and they had frozen my card, so I didn’t lend her anything. Hence, chances were, Wayne didn’t have money either, which meant he took her to the cheapest back-alley clinic he coul

Not long after, she walked out of the room with some blond punk’s arm wrapped around her waist. They were making out as they stumbled forward, and his hand slid straight down the collar of her shirt, groping her for a long while. Then, he suddenly shoved her against the wall, clearly trying to go at it with her right there in public.Maya’s cheeks were flushed, looking like she was enjoying every second of it. She eventually pulled him along and dragged him into the bathroom.About fifteen minutes later, the two of them came out, one after the other. Maya hadn’t even pulled her skirt down properly, and her skin was exposed. The blond guy simply laughed and stuffed a fat wad of cash into her neckline. As soon as the video ended, the entire auditorium erupted. Even the male collegemates who had defended her earlier clenched their fists and quietly returned to their seats.Maya’s legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor, looking up at me with desperate, pleading eyes.“Please… n
