# Chapter 6: Jealous much?

In the bathroom, Alissa heard a sharp knock at her bedroom door. She quickly donned a robe and walked towards the door, wondering who could be so impatient.

When she opened it, Rita stood there, arms crossed and looking irritated. Her gaze was a mix of disdain and judgment. "Is this how you open the door, barely clothed? Trying to seduce the men in this house?"

Alissa lifted her brows, a smirk forming on her lips. "Wow, Rita, jealous much? If you're so concerned about how I look, maybe you should focus on your own wardrobe instead of trying to police mine. Newsflash: I’m not here to cater to your insecurities!" She felt a surge of empowerment; she was done pleasing people.

Heads turned the moment she entered the lobby—men paused mid-sentence, women side-eyed her with either envy, admiration, or a mixture of both. Cindy owned it. She knew she was gorgeous. She breathed attention like oxygen. Shane had a six-hour meeting scheduled at one of his hotels. Cindy hadn’t been invited. She didn’t care. She marched into the hotel lobby like she belonged there—like she owned it. Removing her shades with a flourish, she approached the

Chapter 16: Do you love Shane? The sun threw shade over the Barbie Salon, reflecting its majestic beauty in soft golden tones, bouncing off the floor-to-ceiling mirrors and polished marble. Inside, the faint scent of vanilla and expensive shampoo lingered in the air. Cindy Randall stepped through the glass doors, her heels clicking with authority against the marble floor. It was her first time back in five years, and she made sure to arrive fashionably late. Her designer sunglasses stayed perched on her nose until she reached the private VIP section, where two familiar faces waited. Chloe waved first, her manicured fingers fluttering excitedly. “Cindy!” Selena beamed. “Look who finally decided to show up.” Cindy removed her glasses with a smirk. “Well, someone has to make an entrance.” The three hugged, air-kissing and holding each other in that perfectly shallow way that only old frenemies could. They were the infamous trio—the girls who ruled high school

Chapter 15: I won’t let you down As she exited the building, her assistant Rophine followed closely, her shorter steps struggling to keep pace with Alissa’s long strides. Huffing slightly, Rophine called out, “I thought we were here so you could take over the company.” Alissa didn’t slow her pace. “Rome wasn’t built in a day, Rophine. I knew they wouldn’t accept me—I wouldn’t accept me if I were in their shoes. I need to prove myself to the board.” Rophine frowned, her curiosity getting the better of her. “I understand where you’re coming from, but… the Golden Hotel? Really?” The words slipped out before she could stop them. Alissa tossed a sharp gaze over her shoulder, making Rophine stammer, “I-I mean, you could have taken over the restaurant chains. They’re doing well. You’d only need to maintain them long-term and not—” “I get your point,” Alissa cut in, her tone firm. “But I need a challenge. I need to prove my worth.” “You don’t,” Rophine said gently.

Isn’t he scared you’ll burn it to ashes?” “Like you did with the Golden Palace Hotel, Uncle Dominic?” Alissa replied with a sly smirk. “You!” Dominic’s eyes blazed red with fury, his chest heaving as he puffed in anger. “We can’t let you take over without any experience, young lady,” another board member said calmly, adjusting the glasses resting on the bridge of his nose. A warm, composed aura surrounded him. “Your grandfather may hold the majority of the shares, but we still have a say in this.” “Yes, Eric is righ

"Alissa, you're still wearing yesterday's dress. Don't you have a vast wardrobe of nightgowns to choose from?" Fabrice asked, his tone firm but laced with worry. Alissa approached his desk, her gaze fixed on the computer screen, a hint of determination in her voice. "I'm sorry, Grandfather. I didn't sleep well. I've been going over the firm's financials, and I think I've found something disturbing." Fabrice's expression turned serious, his brow furrowing. "What is it, Alissa?" Her fingers flew across the keyboard, anxiety evident in her movements. "It appears that some of

His heart warmed with affection, and he replied sweetly, "Good morning, Colet. How was your night?" "It was nothing spectacular," Alissa answered back as she buttoned the jacket she had on. She was clad in a black pencil skirt and jacket, tailored-made to perfection. It gave off a professional aura, and her appearance changed from that of a simple housewife to a businesswoman. "Why are you so dressed up?" Rita, whom Alissa had purposely disregarded, hung on curiosity, so she asked. "I have a meeting with someone promising," Alissa replied, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "A new boyfriend?" Rita teased, a smile probing on her lips. "Hopefully not yours," Alissa shot back, a sly grin spreading across her face. "He has been throwing himself at me these days; I think you might be the rebound." Rita's face turned red
