SIXTY EIGHT: GHOSTS OF THE PAST

The drive felt longer than usual since Dominic was not with me. I turned at Sky who was driving the car, while Jannet sat at the back, holding her bag on her lap. Until now, Sky had not spoken a thing and if he tried to annoy Jan, I would be rescue her.

“Did Dominic have some pack work?” I asked and Sky remained silent for a few seconds before he responded.

“To be honest, he is not in his best self today,” he said with a sigh and a frown settled on my forehead.

“What happened?” I sat upright on the seat and waited for Sky to explain. He looked fine this morning.

“Today is the date his parents died,” Sky said and my lips parted. Jan heard what he said at the back and she exchanged a look with me.

“Oh my…he never spoke about it to me. Is he alright?” I asked in concern, my heart clenching at the thought of Dominic missing his parents.

Sky shrugged while he rotated the steering wheel, “It is hard to tell. He looks fine outside, but every time this date comes, he turns sad and kind of iso
