SIXTY NINE: KISS

I felt terrible. Never did I thought that behind the stone cold face, there was a child who had gone through so much pain. And he survived it all. I couldn’t imagine myself surviving such amount of rejection.

He looked back at me, “Let’s head bac—” he stopped when I embraced him in a hug. I was standing on my feet, holding his head close to my chest. My hand caressed his back and I could feel those hard muscles. Focus, Avery!

“I am sorry for what happened,” I said, pain etched to my voice. I just couldn’t bring myself to imagine what he could have went through since he did not tell me the full story. Was all his past pain the reason he turned out so twisted?

He did not speak, neither he hugged me back. His head just rested on my chest. We stayed like this for a few minutes, before I realized that it was too awkward and I let him go.

He looked at me, amusement glinting in his eyes and a subtle hint of smile playing on his lips. I licked my dry lips and tucking my loose hair back on
