TWO DAYS LATER
Lena couldn't sleep all night, she had been throwing up, and this morning, she was beginning to feel sick. She found it hard to get herself off from her bed, so she just laid there, tired. The sound of her ringing phone got her turning around to reach for it on her nightstand. She checked the caller ID and saw that it was her Mother that was calling her. She quickly picked up the call and placed it on her ear.
"Good morning, Mum." Lena greeted quietly.
"Morning dear, I hope I didn't wake you?" Her Mum asked.
"No." Lena replied.
"Good." Her Mum replied.
"I've been less busy these days, so I knitted a sweater for Grayson, drop by from work and pick it up with him." Her mother instructed and Lena quickly sprang up from her bed.
"Mum, why would you make a sweater for him?" Lena asked playfully, trying to hide her surprise.
"He is allergic to cold, remember? I don't want my son in-law to get sick." She said, her voice filled with happiness.
"I'll meet you later, Mum." Lena replied and quickly disconnected the call, looking fazed.
The past days before her dirvoce, she had been so busy and caught up in her own troubles that she forgot that Grayson was allergic to cold and she even chased him out under the heavy rain. Her heart clenched in hurt at the thought.
She couldn't believe that she actually forgot and did that to him. A wave of guilt washed over her, making her stomach twist into knots. She felt a cold sweat break out of her forehead as she imagined the discomfort Grayson would have felt.
She could remember that the last time Grayson got beaten by the rain, he was unconscious for twenty four hours.
'Just what had she done?' She thought.
As she was lost in her thoughts, she suddenly felt like throwing up again and she quickly ran into the bathroom and emptied her stomach in the toilet.
She sighed as she stood straight, deciding to take a quick shower and visit the hospital. The last time she got sick and threw up was when she was a little girl.
THIRTY MINUTES LATER
Lena drove her car into the hospital's parking lot and just then her phone began to ring. She glanced at it and saw that it was her Secretary. She slid the green button and placed her phone on her ear.
"Ms. Lena, Good morning." Arianna greeted from the other end.
"Hey, I would be a bit late today. Kindly cover up for me." Lena said calmly.
"Alright. I will, bye."
As Lena disconnected the call, she stepped down from her car and headed into the hospital. She had already booked her appointment with the doctor.
Grayson always brought her here anytime she was sick, and she silently hoped that the doctor wouldn't ask her any questions about him.
She greeted the nurses at the counter as she passed by, walking towards the elevator. When she reached, she pressed the button and patiently waited for the elevator doors to open, she had to reach the doctors office soon or else, she wouldn't be able to stand on her feet any longer.
The door slid open and she walked in and pressed the button for the third floor. Few minutes later, the elevator dinged, signifying that they had arrived at her destination. The doors opened up and she walked out slowly.
Standing in front of the doctors office, she knocked gently on the door and she heard her voice say 'Come in'
"Good morning Doctor Kira." Lena greeted as she walked in Casually.
Doctor Kira quickly looked up from her laptop as she heard Lena's voice.
"Mrs Julian." Doctor Kira addressed her, offering her a seat.
Lena forced a smile, she was still being addressed with Grayson's Surname when she already dirvoced him. Well, she was beginning to rethink her decision and did not have any plans of telling the doctor about it.
"Mr Julian did not come with you today?" Kira asked casually.
"No, he is kinda busy." Lena lied smoothly.
"Alright." Kira nodded her head thoughtfully.
"So, tell me. How have you been feeling lately?" She asked, professionally.
Lena took her time to explain to her and they ended up carrying out a test. Kira told her that she results would be out in an hour and thirty minutes.
Lena decided to wait till then, but she requested for an energy drink and a room to stay in till then.
ONE HOUR THIRTY MINUTES LATER
Lena's eyes slowly fluttered open and she yawned and stood up from the bed she slept on. She was feeling a lot more better than earlier and she was happy for that. Just as she was picking up her hand bag to go out of the room, doctor Kira walked in, her face full of smiles.
"Congratulations Lena." She said, happiness evident in her voice.
Lena was stunned, as she thought of the reason that made Doctor Kira so happy that she forgot to address her by Grayson's name.
You're two weeks pregnant." Doctor Kira announced, her excitement all over the place.
"What?" Lena asked in surprise.
"Yes, Lena. I've confirmed it thoroughly." Kira said handing her the test results.
Lena's eyes scanned through the paper and a wide smile slowly formed on her lips. She rubbed her hand on her stomach. She couldn't believe she was now carrying a small human in her. As she thought about it, she realized that it matched perfectly with the last time her and Grayson did it.
"Thank you, doctor."
Doctor Kira smiled at her. "I've prescribed some drugs, you can pick it up at the pharmacy.
"Can I ask you for a favour?" Lena asked, putting the test results into her bag.
"Yeah, sure."
"Can this just stay between us?"
"Yes, my patients safety and privacy comes first." Doctor Kira replied.
"Thank you."
"I'll take my leave now." With that, Doctor Kira turned and walked out of the room.
Lena looked around the room with a wide smile, her hands still on her belly. She had just one thought on her mind right now. FINDING GRAYSON.
As she was about to step out, the news being displayed on the television caught her attention. It was being reported that a man was found dead in his apartment just this morning.
Lena was beginning to feel bad for the man when his picture popped up on the screen and she staggered back in shock.
She knew this face! It was the person that made her take that drastic decision. He made her ruin half of her life in just a night!
What kind of game was this? It wasn't a game, it was a cruel prank!
She needed to find Grayson or it might be to late to earn his forgiveness.
Lena sat in the backyard, a soft breeze playing with her hair as she rubbed her belly. She was now seven months pregnant, and the baby kicked more often these days. It was a reminder that soon, she and Grayson would have a little one to hold in their arms.Grayson had been extra careful with her lately, making sure she didn’t lift a finger. He barely let her do anything on her own, which sometimes made her laugh.Just this morning, she had tried to carry a small box, and he had rushed over like she was about to lift a mountain.“Lena, stop,” he had said, taking the box from her hands. “I told you, no lifting.”“It’s just a box of baby clothes, Grayson.”“I don’t care. You sit. I’ll do it.”She had rolled her eyes but smiled as he carefully placed the box down, arranging everything as if the clothes were made of glass. Now, as she sat outside, she could hear him in the kitchen, talking to someone on the phone. Probably about work. He still ran Blackwood Empire, but lately, he had been
ONE MONTH LATERLena sat in her office, staring at the framed award on her desk. The golden plaque gleamed under the soft light, reflecting the name she had worked so hard to build, Carter’s Enterprises: Most Influential Company of the Year. She traced her fingers over the engraved letters, still in disbelief. A few months ago, she had only hoped to make it to the Top 100 companies in the country. Now, Carter’s Enterprises was in the Top 20. It felt unreal, but the numbers didn’t lie. Their sales had skyrocketed, their influence had spread, and investors were eager to work with them. They had made it.The collaboration with Blackwood Empire had been a turning point. Working alongside Grayson and his company had not only boosted their reputation but had also made them stronger in the industry. The success of their joint launch had been beyond anyone’s expectations. Because of that, they had won multiple awards:* Most Influential Company of the Year* Most Influential Collaboration (Bl
Lena sat on the couch for a long time, staring at the empty plate in front of her. She had eaten, she had rested, but she still felt heavy inside. Maybe it was the silence. Maybe it was the weight of everything that had happened. She let out a deep breath and stood up, stretching her arms above her head. Staying indoors all day wasn’t helping. She needed to clear her mind.A walk. Yes, that’s what she needed.Lena grabbed her black pants and pulled them on before slipping into a white hoodie. It was simple, comfortable. She tied her hair into a loose ponytail and checked herself in the mirror. Her eyes still looked tired, but at least the fresh air might help. She picked up her phone and sent a quick message to Grayson.Lena: Going for a walk. Don’t worry, I won’t do anything stressful. She didn’t wait for his reply before slipping her phone into her pocket and heading out.The moment she stepped outside, a cool breeze brushed against her skin. The city was busy as usual, cars honking
The morning light streamed through the curtains, painting the room in soft gold. Lena stirred in bed, blinking slowly as the memories of last night rushed back in. Her chest tightened. The pain wasn’t as painful as before, but it was still there, sitting heavy in her heart.Grayson sat beside her on the edge of the bed, already dressed for work. His hand rested on her belly, his thumb moving in slow, gentle circles."You sure you'll be okay?" he asked, searching her face.Lena forced a small smile. "I’ll be fine. You should go."He didn’t look convinced."I mean it," she added, squeezing his hand. "Don't worry about me. Just focus on work."Grayson sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I just don’t want you stressing yourself.""I won’t," she promised.Still, he hesitated before finally leaning down to kiss her forehead. "I’ll be back early," he murmured. "Call me if you need anything."She nodded, watching as he grabbed his keys and headed for the door. The moment it closed behin
Lena’s eyes fluttered open, the harsh hospital lights making her squint. A dull ache sat at the back of her head, her body felt heavy, and for a moment, she struggled to remember where she was. Then it all came rushing back, Ayla, the fire, Kael’s broken voice, the moment everything had shattered. She swallowed hard, her throat dry. As she shifted slightly, she felt warmth against her hand. Turning her head, she found Grayson sitting beside her, his head resting on his arm. His fingers were curled gently around hers, as if afraid to let go.His suit was wrinkled, his tie loose, dark circles beneath his eyes showing just how long he’d been there. She tried to move her fingers, and immediately, he stirred. His eyes blinked open, slightly unfocused, before locking onto her face.“You’re awake,” he breathed, sitting up quickly. Relief washed over his tired features.Lena swallowed, trying to push past the lump in her throat. “How long have I been out?”Grayson reached for a cup of water o
HALLWAYLena wiped at her swollen eyes, her face pale and streaked with tears. She hugged herself, her body trembling. Kael, on the other hand, looked like a shadow of himself, hollow, detached, his gaze unfocused as he stared at the ground. His phone buzzed in his pocket.Kael ignored it at first, the vibration barely registering in his fogged mind. But it persisted, relentless. With a tired sigh, he fished the phone out, glancing at the screen. It was his secretary. He almost declined the call, but something in his gut told him not to.“This is Kael,” he answered, voice rough and broken.“Sir,” his secretary’s voice trembled on the other end. “I’m sorry to call you like this... but I thought you should know right away.”Kael rubbed his temple, his head pounding. “What is it?” he muttered, his patience fraying.“It’s your brother,” she said, her voice laced with caution. “He was in a serious accident tonight. A collision. He’s in a coma.”Kael stiffened, the words slamming into him l
