LOGINKimberly Pov
The first thing that woke me up that morning was a message from my phone.
“Congratulations. You've been accepted into the Life-Link research project. Accommodation has been prepared near the lab. You do not need to worry about your luggage; everything you need to live comfortably has been bought. A representative will pick you up at the airport to your house, and most importantly, your antenatal appointments have also been scheduled.”
I let out a deep breath of relief.
The first good news I will be hearing since I saw those two pink lines.
If strangers could treat me this nice then I shouldn't stay with a man who doesn't know my value.
Now everything is settled.
I began to arrange my things.
I didn't pack much, just two sets of clothes.
and the current one I'm wearing.
I do not want to be suspicious because Vaelor could smell the smallest mistake and any slight betrayal.
I cleaned my space and put all my stuff in one bag.
On top of the table was a picture of Vaelor and me during the earliest stage of our marriage.
I was standing close to him with my hands on his chest and he was facing the camera smiling awkwardly.
I remember how hard I had persuaded him to take that picture with me, yet he has the pre-wedding pictures of him and Clara flaunting all over the internet.
Not one, not two but more than three pictures of them on the internet, yet he told me he doesn't like taking pictures anytime I asked him to— I guess he could do anything for the one he loves.
I grabbed the picture and threw it into the waste bin. Three years of Vaelor and I have gone to waste.
I hadn't seen him and Clara today, so that will make my leaving easier.
Without leaving any messages behind, I carried my suitcase and walked out of the mansion.
I could feel the cold, heavy weight of our marriage leaving my shoulder.
I stood nervously at the airport waiting for the representative sent to pick me up.
“Kimberly?” A lanky man walked out from the crowd.
Kevin. I checked my phone for the details sent to confirm that he was the one.
“Yes.” I nodded my head.
His warm smile felt unfamiliar. I couldn't remember the last time someone looked at me with genuine kindness. He took my suitcase, handling it like a rare item.
“The company insisted on giving our top researcher the VIP treatment.” His voice was calm, making me smile warmly for the first time.
My eyes drifted towards where there were crowds, and I saw Vaelor standing beside Clara, facing the counter with two pack guards behind them.
“Did someone just mention Kimberly?” Vaelor asked, turning around, but I was already walking away with Kevin.
Clara's fake smile concealed his suspicions. “Kimberly can't be here, Vae. She'd probably have her head buried in lab work as always.” I heard her say before dragging Vaelor away by the arms.
I felt him look back, but I was already among the crowd before he could see me or detect my scent.
I sighed, following Kevin.
I was glad I bought the patch to conceal my scent.
It was a perfumed bracelet that hid the original scent of the one wearing it.
“The team has redone the schedule for your sake. No early morning meetings before 8 and no evening work after 4.” Kevin said.
My heart felt this peace I couldn't explain. People who barely knew me care this much for me and value me, while my husband— no, ex-husband, who I've been with for years, doesn't know my value.
While I was being his secret wife, he was flaunting her publicly.
While I was in pain at the hospital, he was with another woman.
My phone started ringing, and the ID displayed Vaelor's name.
I didn't pick.
The ringing came again, but my hand mistakenly touched the receive button.
“Kimberly, where are you?” Vaelor's panicked voice filled the air. “I won't be home tonight, Clara —” before he could continue his words, I cut the call.
I removed my SIM and threw it away in the trash.
This is where it ends.
I entered the plane.
I glanced down at the terminal window where the pack stood vast and wide, and my ex-husband was the Alpha. He must be somewhere with his childhood sweetheart, playing a devoted lover to her and the unborn child.
“You'd love the sight of sunsets in Lincolnton. You'll think you're on another planet!” Kevin said as the plane rumbled to life.
I sighed, smiling.
Goodbye to the mansion that never felt like home.
Goodbye to the pack that never knew my existence.
Goodbye to being Alpha Vaelor Knight's secret wife.
Goodbye to Vaelor Knights.
I placed my hands on my stomach, resting my head on my chair, and I closed my eyes.
Kimberly’s pov “Who wants lemonade?" Martha said and the children squealed happily.Once life gets so hectic it's good to find joy in the little moments, if I have learned anything from the roller coaster of events that is in my life I usually have to steal this moments and crushed them close to my chest because before long something comes riding out of the horizon, and I'll have to tackle it all over again before another brief interval of peace. Today was one of such days, I had clocked out extra early, that is by 12:00 noon. Truthfully I had been mentioning to Vaelor that the whole process of refilling the house of the things that Clara had transported over to the red zone took a long time, it was just a casual comment and I did not really expect anything to come out of it. But that was until he told me that I should clock out early and we will take care of it today. Everything had already been delivered in boxes and those that hadn't worn in the truck outside, I didn't have to l
Kimberly's POV I clocked out of work before I was able to have the conversation that had been running through my mind for most of the afternoon after I saw Vaelor and velvet interact. She was my friend, and in the end she had been manipulated. I didn't want her to face the full punishment of the pack laws as Clara was supposed to.When I clocked out I had already sent him a message. It was earlier that I wanted him to drive me home. I was partially expecting him to say no but a more aware part of myself told me that he would stay and he did. When I saw the car parked in the hospital parking lot, my heart began to drum increasingly before I even entered and once I did, he set the car into motion and we started to drive back to my house, then I told him that he should take me somewhere else around the green zone. He agreed to this easily, and for a moment we had peace between the two of us, a calm that settled in a serenity that I felt guilty about breaking but I inevitably had to. I
Kimberly's POVI did not ever think that the friendship between me and velvet would ever be able to be fixed because after she betrayed me that time I thought that she would continue to be Clara's puppet because why would she ever change her mind about that? Clara was the one with the power she had a leash on her neck that she didn't even know how to tear off. But then velvet told me that her conscience could not allow her to keep on doing what you had been doing.“Once I knew how far she was ready to go I just couldn't go down that road anymore…it was one thing with rumors and the other things she asked me to do but this was just far too much,” She had told the truth at the last minute but she was still battling the guilt over everything else that she had done; however, this time I was ready to give her a listening ear. I came to find her in her office and she opened up to me more easily than I thought. Clara had completely watered down Velvet’s situation. She made it sound as if
Vaelor's pov I did not want to waste any momentum, knowing Clara she would not come along with me willingly unless she had a plan in mind and my mother was also backing her; some elders were also going to be on her side naturally. Having her stripped of her title was not going to be easy, but it was necessary and I would push forward with that because I had made a promise to Kimberly. And I intended to keep it. The next day, the Elders were gathered by 11:00, I'm sure that many of them wanted to speak to me about the recent events and before I even entered the meeting Hall they had been discussing amongst themselves each exchanging their idea of what could be happening. I listened in for a moment before making my presence known and stepping through the double doors, instantly, silence fell upon the meeting Hall especially as my Alpha aura began to radiate in the air. They all got up and acknowledged me and I made a motion for them to sit. Gradually, each of them took their seats
Vaelor's POV“Mother, I want to speak with her…”After retiring from their Alpha and Luna positions, my parents had moved into a smaller house which was nothing to scoff at but could not be held at the same esteem of the official Crescent fall pack house.Clara and I had gone separate ways when the search for Kimberly began and she used that to her advantage. When it reached her that Kimberly had been found she went to take refuge with my parents. Typical of her, but now I had the entire place surrounded. She was not getting out of here scot free after everything that she has done. Now I was in my mother's library. Father for some reason was not here but that did not mean that my mother was going to relent, my mother was nothing if she was not pointlessly stubborn and hard-headed. Things she had often described me with but I had found out was just her projection.“Vaelor, what benefit do you get from humiliating your own Luna? I would think that I had taught you far better than this!
Kimberly's POV I was only by myself for a few minutes before Vaelor came in.In my entire life I had not seen somebody so relieved to see me before. Before I could say anything or even ask him any questions at all, he had come over to me and then he pulled me into his embrace, instantly, I felt like I was melting against him but I had to build up some muscles immediately to make sure that I did not start purring in his arms. By the time I had collected myself, he finally pulled away but not completely. Slowly, his hand slid over mine and he took a look at it before returning to his side. There was already a chair propped next to his bed telling me that he had come here often to check up on me and that warmed up something inside of me that I was trying so hard to keep cold and frozen.“I know you're probably curious to know what happened, maybe you should rest a little bit more…I'm going to call a servant to get you some food to eat, I don't think you've eaten anything. You seem to ha
Kimberly's pov "Luna has been admitted back into the hospital again," Julian stated, taking the chair across from me without asking and settling down just before dropping that bomb. The appetite I had inside me quickly evaporated and I found myself pushing away my plate of mashed potatoes. Julian
Vaelor's POV "... it's been two weeks, don't you think the people will talk?"Clara slammed her brush on her table as it were strands of her hair that hadn't been there before but had been taking off because of how severely she'd been brushing. It wasn't just her hair, she had been going out of her
Vaelor's POV My instincts had been yelling at me that Clara would be up to no good but I wanted to convince myself otherwise, especially since I could not leave Rosa without getting a conclusive decision from her that would still benefit both our sides. But that moment in her office when I thought
Vaelor's POVTwo more days passed bleeding into the third and I had only been able to get one more meeting with her that ended just like the last and her leaving me in the code Hall, her decision still set in stone. In anger, I matched out of the hall, my aura pouring out restlessly in a way that s
