Serena's POV

I turned to see the person that held my hand, it was a stranger I couldn't recognize.

A man dressed in a hoodie, with tattoos on face.

"How may I help you?” I asked as I yanked my hand away from me.

He dipped his hand into his pocket like he was going to bring out something, but one of the securities interupted.

"Mrs Everly," he called, "Is everything alright?"

His gaze shifted to the strange man in front of me and as soon as he saw the security.

He walked away quietly.

If the security man hadn't interupted, what was he planning on doing with me? I wondered.

"Do you know him, ma'am?" the guard asked.

"No," I answered, "I have no idea who he is."

"Well, you have to be very careful ma'am," he advised, "Especially when you have a court case."

"Thank you very much," I said but I was still curious about something.

"How did you know my name?" I asked.

"Well, I don't," he responded, "One of the secretaries asked me to call you back. I think it has to do with Mr Damien."

  • Chasing Back The Woman He Destroyed   Chapter 14

Serena's POVMy heart skipped a beat the moment I saw him pull a gun out of his Waistband holster. All the anger and tensed up energy vanished, replaced by a cold wind of fear."I'm not going to hurt you Serena, just listen to me," he pleaded, his voice calm, but his hand still held the gun.I swallowed a lump, why did he bring out a gun? Is he going to kill me, I wondered."Alright," I admitted, "You have proved your point, so what do you have to say? I'm listening,” I said, my voice trembled slightly."You can't win the case against me, it's best if you just drop it, and let's settle it peacefully," he said, "that way, you don't get hurt.""So this is what it's all about?" I asked, my voice low, but my gaze was fixed on the gun, "You came here to threaten me?""No, Serena, I wouldn't do that," he said and tossed the gun towards me, "The gun is not loaded, I just needed to get your attention."My gaze darted between the gun and Alexander. Then I picked the gun, having learnt some thi

Serena's POV"What are you doing here?!" I yelled as I pulled the towel from the door to cover my body.It was Alexander, he moved his face to see the other direction."I'm sorry, I didn't know you were naked," he said, and he gave me a quick look."You asked me to come in, I thought it's Sophia," he said."Bullshit," I shot, "What do you want?"He walked closer.I pulled my hand at him, "Don't you dare to come close to me or I will call the police," I threatened."Well," he stopped, "I am trying your line, but you have refused to take any of my calls.""I've been with you for five years and you hardly call, so why are you calling me now?" I asked."Serena, come on, just listen to me for a sec," he said. "Save it, I'm good. Go back to your girl," I snapped, my voice cold."You're not getting it, Serena. Just five minutes, please?" he asked."You've had 5 years to explain yourself, Alexander!” I yelled. "Good five years, you've abandoned me, and now you have the audacity to seek my au

Serena's POVRounded up with bursts of unsilenced gunshots outside the building. He covered me with his own body, I thought it was to keep the shards of glass from hurting me."Hey, are you alright?" he asked. The shooting had died down, but sirens wailed all around us.I nodded. “I'm okay,” I whispered back but to be fair, it wasn't totally true.Seriously, what the fuck? How can you go through that and be just fine? My heart was racing."What happened?" I asked."I dunno but we gotta go," he said as he held my hand.I followed behind him closely as we got to the reception.Several other persons were there, workers I presume and other security guards."What's going on?" Damien asked, his gaze on the securities. My attention was drawn to the entrance, outside, where I believe the gunshots had come from."It's Barrister Morris sir," one of the guards replied, his face pale.I didn't know who Morris was but I assumed he was one of the lawyers working under Damien's law firm."What's wro

Alexander's POV"Alexander, Pristine told me you have refused to touch her ever since Selena saw the both of you at a restaurant," my dad said as he looked at me suspiciously..I still haven't gotten over the restlessness that came as a result of Selena's absence in my life.I had thought it would go away with time, but instead, it has gotten worse."That's not true, dad," I retorted, "I hugged her this morning."My dad slammed his hand hard on the table, "You know damn well what I'm talking about."I was a little bit startled, I wasn't expecting him to get impulsive over a little sarcastic sentence."But you said touch," I pressed with a playful grin.I was always playful around my father, I got so used to it as a kid. Though, lately, my playfulness was a garment, an act that had been put on to hide the emptiness I felt within."When was the last time you had sex with Pristine?" he asked again, this time, his tone was sober."I don't know, but the last time I checked, you are not my

Serena's POVDamien chuckled in disbelief. "The minister of Justice has been avoiding me for a long time, and now he just pops up with a demand not to represent a client?" he said, "Are you sure it's him?""Yes sir," the secretary responded.Damien turned to me. "Is the minister of defense your husband? His son, maybe?" he asked.I shook my head dismissively. "I have never seen the minister of justice in person," I replied, "I have no connection to him.""I'm as stunned as you are about the whole issue," I added.Could this be the reason why my lawyer called me earlier, and told me he was pulling out of my case?I didn't think Alex was this vile, no he wouldn't.His father on the other hand, there's no doubt, he is responsible for this."Please, get the minister of justice on the phone again," he ordered, "I'm confused.""I'd do that right away sir, and forward the call to you when he responds," she replied and walked out of the office.I swallowed a lump, unease constricting around m

Serena's POV"Go straight down," she directed, "The first door by your left, you'd see the inscription 'Damien' on the door.""Thank you," I said, and took the straight route she had directed.I got to the first door by my left, and as the secretary had said, I saw the inscription 'Damien' on it.I paused at the door, cleaned my eyes.I didn't want to look like a weak person in front of him.My heart was on a marathon race.I was anxious as fuck, but I took a deep breath."You can do this Serena," I said to myself.I knocked softly on the door.No response.I knocked again, harder this time."Come in," a male voice cut in from the office.I pushed the door open and entered, I saw two men."Alright Mr Damien," The first said as he got up from his seat and headed toward the exit.My brain was kinda foggy, I didn't pay any attention to him as he walked past me.But I waited until the door was shut before raising my head to see Damien seated on a chair behind his desk.Even in my unsettle

Serena's POVI arrived at the location of the law firm in a cab. This is the first time in a long time that I would be taking a public cab. But, this is the first time I wouldn't cry on transit.I have heard a debate among women."It's better to cry in a Benz than to be happy on a bike or cab," they say. This is my opinion, 'I'd be happier taking cabs, than crying in a luxurious car.'"This is your change ma'am," the taxi driver's voice cut in."Keep the change," I said. "You probably need it."He was an old man with gray hair."Ooh, thank you," he said, his voice weak."You're welcome," I replied with a smile and turned to face the building in front of me.It was sleek, the building was decorated with glass, and the name of the firm's logo boldly written."Lovells LLP."I entered the building and went straight to the receptionist.A fine young woman attended to me, who I assumed should be the secretary I spoke to on the phone."Hi, I'm Serena." I greeted."Welcome to Lovells, Mrs Ser

Serena's POVMy therapist's advice lingered in my head all day.Changing my environment might be the best decision right now, but I can't leave completely. At least not until I have gotten my revenge."How was the therapy session yesterday?" Sophia asked. She handed me a cup of coffee, while she sipped the other one.The morning was still very young, 7am and it was a thing with Sophia to always drink coffee in the morning."It was fine," I said, "Better than I thought it would be.""Glad you liked it." She sat on the couch opposite the one I was seated on. "You know, therapy is a constructive path to healing and self discovery, while clubbing and drinking on the other hand, is a destructive path to healing."I let out a smile, "You sound like Mrs Florence, I think you would make a fine therapist."Sophia grinned widely, but it disappeared just as soon as it arrived."You know therapy was my anchor for a long time, after the whole stuff with Sam went through the drain." There was a sl
