Serena's POV

His eyes flicked to mine, sharp but unreadable. “If it comes to that, yes. I don’t abandon my clients.”

Something in my chest tightened. Not jealousy exactly, but something close. I pushed the thought away and said, “I hope you’re ready then, because Pristine doesn’t strike me as the type to let this go.”

Sophia picked up her cup, sipping slowly. “Happy birthday to us,” she said dryly. “We’re spending the day worrying about Alexander’s drama.”

I tried to laugh, but my mind was already racing.

“I’ll talk to Pristine,” Damien repeated, his tone firmer this time as if trying to convince himself. “She’s angry now, but she’s not irrational. Maybe she’ll listen.”

I folded my arms across my chest, leaning against the edge of the bed. “You think she’ll actually take advice? Pristine is well, Pristine. She thrives on chaos.”

Damien gave me a small smile, one that didn’t reach his eyes. “Maybe. But chaos can be redirected if you find the right words.”

Sophia scoffed from the corner

Alexander's POVI nodded slowly. “I planned to. I just… needed to get this out of the way first.”She crossed her arms, her tone softening. “She’s been worried, you know. When she heard what happened last week, she wouldn’t rest until I promised I’d make sure you were safe.”My jaw tightened slightly. “I never wanted her involved in this mess.”“She’s your mother, Alexander,” Darla said. “She was involved the moment you were born.”A faint, sad smile crossed my lips. “She deserves better than this life of chaos and secrets.”Darla’s gaze softened. “Then give her peace. Go to her, tell her it’s over. At least for now.”I turned back to the window, hands in my pockets. “You make it sound so easy.”She stepped closer, close enough for her reflection to merge with mine in the glass. “It’s not supposed to be easy,” she said quietly. “But it’s necessary.”For a long moment, I said nothing. The air between us thickened with unspoken things — the kind that lingered in glances and silences rat

Alexander's POVCollins blinked, his smug expression faltering. “Is that—”“Yes,” Darla said sharply, cutting him off. “Allow me to formally reintroduce the rightful owner of this company — Alexander.”Every face turned pale.I took my place beside her, my hand resting lightly on the back of her chair. “It’s been a while,” I said evenly. “I see the company’s changed since I last stepped foot here.”Collins stammered. “You—You were supposed to be out of the picture. We were told—”“I’m sure you were told a lot of things,” I interrupted, my voice cold and steady. “But lies have a way of collapsing under the weight of truth.”Darla slid a folder onto the table. “These,” she said crisply, “are the legal transfer papers, signed and verified by the corporate board and court. Alexander is reinstated as CEO, effective immediately.”Gasps and protests rippled through the room. One of the older members, Mr. Haines, leaned forward. “This is irregular! We weren’t informed!”“Because you weren’t s

Alexander's POVThe scent of freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air as I stepped out of the shower, steam still curling behind me. My reflection in the mirror looked sharper than I remembered, eyes dark with focus, hair damp and swept back. I hadn’t felt this grounded in a long time. Darla was sitting by the window, typing something on her tablet, her posture as composed as ever. She looked up when I emerged, offering that small, knowing smile of hers.“Feeling better?” she asked.“Much,” I said, toweling my hair. “I needed that.”“You looked like you did,” she replied, sliding the tablet into her bag. “You’ve barely rested in days.”I glanced at the suit she had neatly placed on the couch—a navy-blue one, crisp and perfect for the kind of impression I was about to make. “You brought this?”“Of course. You’re not walking into that boardroom in a T-shirt and jeans,” she said, standing to adjust my tie when I finished dressing. Her fingers moved with care, but her tone carried the

Serena's POV“Right,” Sophia said, crossing her legs. “A friend you invited to Sunderland after one phone call.”I sighed, unable to hide my small smile. “It’s not what you think. I just… need to see him. There’s unfinished business between us.”Damien’s eyes softened slightly. “Just be careful,” he said. “This isn’t the right place for old emotions to start clouding judgment.”I nodded. “I know. I’ll be careful.”The room fell into a quiet rhythm after that. Sophia started scrolling through her phone, Damien stood to pour himself a drink, and I leaned back on the couch, letting the silence settle around us.For the first time that day, I felt the weight of everything pressing down on me — the company, Vincent’s shadow looming over every decision, and now, the unexpected reappearance of Kyle.Tomorrow was going to be complicated.Sophia broke the silence first. “So,” she said, turning to me. “What’s your plan for tomorrow? You’ve got Morris, Kyle’s arrival, and Diamond City to worry a

Serena's POV“I’ll let the board meet with Vincent first,” I said. “Let them think he has leverage. Then I’ll step in. Quietly, but firmly.”Sophia grinned. “That’s my girl.”Damien nodded approvingly. “Smart. The element of surprise works best when your opponent doesn’t see you coming.”The mood lightened after that. Sophia began talking about the restaurant downstairs, insisting we should order something sweet before bed. Ella teased Damien about looking too serious all the time, and he playfully rolled his eyes. For a moment, I just sat there watching them. These were the people I trusted the most—the small circle that had been with me through the worst. And though tomorrow loomed uncertain, I felt stronger knowing they were by my side. After a while, Ella yawned and stretched. “I’m heading to bed before my brain starts plotting crimes,” she said.Sophia laughed. “Goodnight, troublemaker.”Ella waved and disappeared into her room.I turned to Damien. “You should rest too. Tomorro

Serena’s POV“I’m grateful you chose to tell me " I said, coaxing a smile. "You’ve already gone beyond what was needed. Let me tend to the rest.”Alexa's head snapped up in a nod. "Of course. Goodnight Miss Serena.”When she vanished from sight Damien and I pressed forward toward the elevator the thudding of my pulse echoing against my ribs. The placid self‑assurance I'd carried all day was waning, supplanted by a keen serrated anxiety.“Don’t let it get to you " Damien whispered as we stepped into the elevator, his voice low. "You’re not the woman Vincent used to know. You’re stronger now.”A faint smile curled my lips. I kept my thoughts to myself. He was right—still the fact that I could be strong didn’t mean the fear inside was gone. The elevator doors slid open spilling us onto the night air. I lifted my eyes to the soaring Diamond City tower, its lights blazing against the midnight sky like a crown of fire. In the glass my faint reflection stared back, an outline that still rad
