Hours passed like clouds dragging across the sky.

Then Victoria's phone rang.

The sound made all of us jump.

She grabbed it quickly, fingers fumbling with the screen. Her mouth opened, but no words came at first. Her face shifted, slowly crumbling.

Then—her voice rose, sharp and desperate.

“Why should he be arrested?! That’s not possible! My son can’t be behind bars!”

She stood there, frozen.

The call ended.

She turned to Raven, eyes wide and full of something that was no longer just panic—it was fear, and guilt, and something darker.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I have to go.”

And she was gone before anyone could stop her.

The door swung shut behind her.

And once again, the room fell quiet.

More hours passed, and Mom kept doing what she could to keep Raven calm. She sat close, held her hand at times, and spoke in the kind of voice you use when someone’s world is slowly caving in.

“Sweetheart, it’ll be fine,” she kept saying. “They’ll sort everything out. Just give it a little time.”

Ava couldn’t believe her eyes. Every muscle in her body seemed to stiffen as she took heavy, deliberate steps toward Feyi, her gaze locked on the gun still aimed at Noah’s face. Her mouth hung slightly open, breath shallow, and yet determination radiated from her every move. She raised a hand slowly, tracing a finger along the barrel. The cold metal sent a shiver up her arm, but she didn’t falter. Her touch slid along Feyi’s hand, across her wrist, and up to her shoulder. The movements were calm, precise, almost like a warning, and her eyes never left Feyi’s.For a fleeting second, surprise crossed Ava’s face—then vanished. Anger surged, hard and unrelenting. Without warning, she slapped Feyi across the cheek. The force made Feyi’s head jerk to the side, her expression twisting in shock. She quickly snapped back, gun still locked on Noah, her eyes now burning with fury and disbelief.Feyi’s lips trembled as if searching for words, but Ava’s voice cut like a blade.“Don’t you dare!” He

Ava tilted her head, her eyes flicking over Raya with disdain before she returned her gaze to Noah. Her lips curved into a cold, almost mocking smile.“You’re protecting her?” she asked, her voice sharp and cutting. “From who? From what?”The question only fueled Noah’s anger. His chest heaved, his hands clenched, and his voice tore through the air.“Is this some kind of sick joke, Ava?!”The sound of his fury echoed around us, raw and unrestrained. He wanted to keep going, but he forced himself to hold back.Taking slow, deliberate steps toward her, he leaned closer.“I’m not doing this with you. All I care about right now is getting Raya home.”His words carried finality, a door slammed shut between them.He turned to leave but halted mid-step. His shoulders squared as he threw one last blow, not with fists but with words.“And just so we’re clear—we’re officially over. If you can do this to Raya, someone who has done nothing wrong to you, then you’re capable of hurting anyone I car

Raya held still, her eyes fixed, unblinking, as if the slap had frozen her in time. Then, like raindrops gathering before a storm, tears began to slide down her cheeks. They fell one after another, rolling onto her chin, soaking into the fabric at her knees. The sight cut deep. It wasn’t just me—it struck Damian, Raven, and even Noah. The room shifted with those tears. Something irreversible had happened. For Noah, it was the breaking point. He had been holding back, jaw clenched, nails digging into his palms, swallowing his rage. But the tears shattered the last of his restraint. His body jolted forward before any of us could stop him.Noah stormed out of the shadows with a fury that shook the ground beneath his steps. His fists clenched as if they carried thunder. His chest heaved, his shoulders squared, his eyes locked on Feyi. Nothing—no voice, no reason—was going to hold him back.We felt the dread instantly. If Noah reached her now, if he touched her, everything would spiral bey

“Yes, Noah,” I added quickly, my voice softer but urgent. “We’ve come this far. Please don’t ruin it. Not now.”For a moment, I thought he would never stop fighting us. But slowly, painfully, his thrashing eased. His breath came in heavy bursts, his jaw tight as he forced himself still. We didn’t let go immediately. Only when he dropped his head and stilled completely did we loosen our grip.Across from us, Feyi moved. Calm, deliberate, as though none of our chaos mattered. She knelt beside the figure lying at Ava’s feet. With one sharp motion, she pulled the veil away. The face beneath was unmistakable.Raya.Her chest rose sharply as she sucked in a desperate breath, as though she had been drowning until this very moment. Her eyes widened in fear. When they landed on Ava, she jolted, her hands scrambling against the gravel as she tried to crawl backward. But the jagged stones cut into her palms, slowing her escape. The reaction from Raya seemed to ignite something deep within Ava. W

Raven didn’t let the silence rest. Her voice pressed through it, firm and sure.“Think about it,” she said. “Remember when Feyi told Ava she had a little help getting Raya? Ava must think we’re that help.”The words struck heavy, and for a moment, no one spoke. Then Noah’s jaw tightened.“That can’t be right,” he muttered. “She must have heard me. She knows my voice better than anyone. Why couldn’t she tell?”I shook my head slowly.“Noah, listen. We should actually be grateful it’s playing out this way. I thought the same thing—that she’d know us from our voices. But look at her. She doesn’t recognize us. She can’t tell who we are.”Raven leaned closer, her tone low, cautious.“So… what’s the game plan then? Because right now, whether you admit it or not, we have the upper hand.”Damian scoffed, his arms folded tight.“An edge? Do you think we really do? Did you not hear Feyi? She told someone to ‘bring her in.’ That means Raya is close—maybe even already here—and she's not alone."H

We stood together, four of us in a crooked line, and none of us spoke. The air between us carried a weight too heavy to break with careless words. It felt as though we had silently agreed to stay still, to hold our reactions back, and only watch what played out in front of us. Every small movement in the room seemed louder than it should have been—the shuffle of a foot, the faint rustle of clothing. Yet no one moved to interfere.Feyi was the only one who refused that quiet pact. Her eyes never left Ava, and her hands were quick to reach out whenever Ava shifted uneasily. She whispered to her, adjusted her seat, and brushed away little things that didn’t even matter. To Feyi, nothing else existed but Ava’s comfort, as though protecting her outweighed everything holding the rest of us in place.Minutes stretched long, but Feyi’s focus didn’t break. Her lips moved in soft encouragement that only Ava could hear. Then, as if something clicked in her mind, she pulled her hand away and reac
