FLORENCE’S POV

I didn’t move.

I just stood there, staring at the bouquet in his hands.

White lilies. My favorite.

“Mason,” I said flatly. “Now’s really not a good time.”

“I know,” he replied, stepping closer. “I saw the campaign. You killed it.”

I crossed my arms. “What are you doing here?”

“Just needed to see you.”

He didn’t sound rehearsed. Didn’t sound charming, either. He just sounded… tired.

And I realized, so was I.

Completely, utterly drained.

Something inside me had cracked that day in the garden—watching Daniel, with his trembling hands and swollen grief, point a gun at another human being and pull the trigger without hesitation.

I thought I had seen everything. I thought I was hardened.

But watching someone I knew attempt to murder a man in cold blood… it changed something in me. Like Daniel had been the final test. The final blow.

And I failed it. Or maybe I passed, depending on how you look at it.

Since then, I hadn’t slept right. Hadn’t really eaten. Work had become the

  • Chasing My Innocent Ex-wife Back   Chapter 155

RAIDEN’S POVWhen the call came in, I was in the home office, pretending to be busy. The kind of pretending where your screen’s lit up but your mind is empty. I hadn’t been back to Blackwood in over a week — not really. I came in to sign what I had to, nodded through meetings, and left before anyone could ask how I was doing.Annalise’s name flashing on my phone was enough to jolt me upright.“Mason’s been hurt,” she said before I could even say hello. “Bad. Florence was there. It was on the Verdantis set. She’s shaken, you need to go. Now.”That was all it took.***The hospital was in chaos. Not in the way of screaming or alarms, but in the way of emotions — too many of them, hanging thick in the air like fog. I knew immediately where I would find Florence—at her father’s. I made my way to his room, inwardly dreading coming face to face with him. He knew about Joy and my father, and I feared what he’d say if the son of the man who destroyed his marriage was now dating his daughter

  • Chasing My Innocent Ex-wife Back   Chapter 154

FLORENCE’S POVThe moment they wheeled Mason away, I collapsed into the plastic chair outside the ER like my bones had finally given up. My knees were raw from the concrete, my palms scratched, and my mouth still tasted like dust and blood. They said he still had a pulse. That was the only sentence I could remember from the whirlwind of shouting, running, loading, and sirens.A pulse.I didn’t know where to look. My clothes were streaked with dirt. My hands were shaking. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw his face slack and bloodied under twisted steel.“He saved my life,” I whispered, though no one was listening. And then I broke. My body caved in, shoulders curling forward, sobs clawing out of me like something wild. I cried like a child. Messy. Loud. No decorum. No holding it together. Not this time.I hadn’t cried when Jade “died” eight years ago. Or when my mother confessed to the affair. Not when my father woke up from a coma and told me that someone I trusted tried to destroy h

  • Chasing My Innocent Ex-wife Back   Chapter 152

FLORENCE’S POVThe sun was already high when I arrived on location. The air smelled like dust, fresh paint, and freshly brewed coffee from the carts we’d brought in to keep the production team alive. The old construction site looked like something out of a post-apocalyptic film—concrete slabs, exposed rebar, crumbling staircases—but somehow, we’d turned it into a vibrant, makeshift set for the campaign shoot. Camera crews darted around with headsets and clipboards, and the aspiring actors all showed up, enthusiastic and energetic, eager to prove themselves. And at the head of it all was Jason, standing near the production monitors, animatedly explaining a shot to the cinematographer like he was an Oscar-winning director. It was chaos. Beautiful, controlled chaos. The kind that made me feel like I had a purpose again.“Florence, do you want them to pan left after the third line or cut straight to the crowd shot?” one of the cameramen asked me.I blinked back into focus. “Pan left.

DANIEL’S POVFor days, I’d been watching the walls close in.Every safehouse I had—every property, every hidden apartment, every quiet villa tucked into a side street—was surrounded. Police sat in unmarked cars with steaming coffees and twitchy radios, waiting for me to come crawling back. They were parked outside my offices, too, acting like they owned the place. Like I hadn’t built half of this city with my money. My connections. My intellect. And now, I had nowhere to go.No passport. No burner. No bag of emergency cash stashed in some ceiling tile or glove compartment. I’d burned through all of that. My cards were frozen—my accounts were being watched. I couldn’t buy a pack of gum without setting off an alert.I never should’ve gone to the Whitehill house.I knew that.I wasn’t stupid. I’d never been stupid. I’d spent my whole life moving three steps ahead, predicting everyone, controlling everything. No decision without planning. No move without backup. But when I heard that

  • Chasing My Innocent Ex-wife Back   Chapter 150

FLORENCE’S POVThe noise had finally quieted. No more police sirens. No more lawyers barging into the house. No more press standing outside with cameras in my face. No more Mason, Raiden, Daniel, Melissa, or the ghosts of all their choices haunting my every waking second.I needed to leave the city before it swallowed me whole. So I did what any sensible person would do when on the verge of emotional collapse: I booked a last-minute countryside vacation home for the weekend and dragged Annalise with me.***“This place is gorgeous,” Annalise said, stepping out of the car and stretching like a cat. “There are actual chickens. You’ve outdone yourself.”The air was fresh, thick with wildflowers and something earthy. The kind of smell you didn’t realize you missed until you breathed it in again. Rolling green fields surrounded the little cottage, and in the distance, a small group of cows wandered lazily.I nodded, exhaling as I closed the car door behind me. “I don’t want to talk about
