Chapter 9: Taken Away

I woke gasping, chest heaving as if I’d broken the surface after drowning in deep, dark water. Panic flooded my veins before my eyes could even adjust. My hands were pulled taut above me—chained, locked fast to the headboard. A thick, soft blindfold sealed away every glimmer of light, leaving me in absolute darkness.

I strained against the bonds, rattling the heavy iron links. They were short, unyielding. I couldn’t reach far enough to free myself.

The mattress beneath me

Chapter 12: Dawn EscapeI woke with a jolt before the sun had even touched the horizon. The world outside was still wrapped in soft, deep blue darkness—quiet, untouched, and entirely mine.My heart thrummed fast and light in my chest as I slipped out of bed. I rummaged quietly through the cabinets until my fingers brushed against something thick and warm. I pulled on a heavy jacket, wrapped it tight around me, and smoothed it down with trembling hands. This was it. This was the first time I had ever walked out a door entirely on my own.I smiled to myself, half breathless, half giddy. If my mother knew what I was about to do… she would be terrified. Reckless. Irrational. Foolish. But I didn’t care. I just wanted to drift away. To let the waves carry me wherever they pleased. No plans. No expectations. No one waiting to judge me. Just… freedom.I turned the doorknob slowly, holding my breath. It gave way easily—unlocked. Relief washed over me.I stepped into the hallway, barefoot, ever

Chapter 11: Behind Closed DoorsI leaned back against the bathroom door, chest heaving, clutching the wedding dress tight to my chest as if it were the only thing keeping me safe. My heart hammered so hard I could hear its frantic rhythm in my ears.He had seen me. Touched me. Known every inch of me. And yet… the way he looked at me just now felt different—as if he were seeing something far deeper than just my body.I forced myself to breathe, fingers trembling as I tried to reach the zipper myself. But my hands were still weak, still shaking from everything that had happened. Then his voice came through the wood—low, quiet, and impossible to ignore.“Avar… come out.”I bit my lip, my pride flaring even in my exhaustion. “It’s Ava to you!” I corrected sharply.“It makes no difference!” he shot back, dry and unyielding. “Open the door. Now.”“Go away,” I snapped, irritation warring with something far softer.“I’m not going anywhere,” he said, his tone steady and calm. “You can’t stay i

Chapter 10: The Island and HimMy mind spun in wild chaos as the yacht finally glided to rest beside a private dock. I watched the crew move swiftly, carrying crates and supplies ashore, their movements practiced and efficient. There was no mistaking it—this was no ordinary place. We were on an island. Leon’s private island. He had left my room the moment we arrived, and since then, I had neither seen him nor spoken a single word to him. And I hated him for it. Hated him for dragging me here, for stealing me away, then leaving me to wonder what came next.“Let’s go.”His voice came from behind me, calm and commanding. I didn’t turn around.“No,” I replied sharply, arms crossed tight.“Don’t be stubborn, princess.” He walked past me, casting me a sidelong glance, that familiar, maddening smirk playing on his lips.“I am not going anywhere with you.” I lifted my chin, meeting his gaze unflinchingly. He stopped and turned fully toward me. “Then you leave me no choice.”Before I could ste

I couldn’t reach far enough to free myself. The mattress beneath me was soft, expensive, silk and down—proof I was somewhere exclusive, somewhere far above the ordinary. Why am I chained like a prisoner? I thought, wild with fear. I’m no threat to anyone. I can’t hurt a soul. The door clicked open.My breath caught. Heavy footsteps crossed the room, slow and deliberate. The door clicked shut again. Silence settled—thick, suffocating, charged with a presence so intense it made my skin prickle. The bed dipped under his weight.I held perfectly still, heart hammeri

Chapter 8: The Wedding That Never Was I lifted a spoonful of cake to my mouth, hoping its sweetness might soothe the restless, aching knot in my chest. My mind raced—overthinking every word Kyrie had spoken, every glance he’d given. What was his plan? How would he stop this? Tomorrow was the wedding. And nothing had changed. Grandpa Eli had gathered us all for a final dinner at the mansion—a formal farewell, a tradition for every family member entering a marriage arranged by our blood and our names. Laughter and polite conversation drifted around the long table, but I sat apart from it all, seeing nothing, hearing nothing. This was the first time I’d ever felt this hollow—this utterly alone. Is this what every bride feels on the eve of her wedding? I wondered. Shouldn’t I be happy? Isn’t that what they’re supposed to be? And then the thought struck me, sharp and sudden: What would this feel like… if I were marrying the man I loved? I laughed bitterly inside my own head. Foolish,

Chapter 7: My Fiancé, My FriendI slipped away to the restroom, needing only a moment to breathe, to be apart from them. They were discussing the wedding—scheduled to take place before the month ended. Once we were married, their grand project would launch exactly as they’d planned. It was all so perfectly, painfully business.I lifted my gaze to the mirror. My reflection stared back at me, and though I said nothing, the sadness in my eyes was unmistakable. I wondered… had they noticed it too?And why did I feel this way, anyway?I was washing my hands when the door swung open. I turned, surprised—and nearly raised an eyebrow in shock.Kyrie hurried inside and locked the door behind him.“We need to talk,” he said, voice dropping into that frank, unguarded tone he no longer hid from me.I smirked, crossing my arms. “Talk about what?” I arched a brow at him.“Are you truly going through with this?” he asked, serious now.“As if I have a choice,” I replied coolly. “It was decided long b
