THE FIRST ENCOUNTER

LILY'S POV

I had heard stories about Professor Adrian Vance but I had never really seen him. Some people described him as strict, others said he had an aloof personality but one common thing said about him was how strikingly handsome he was.

He was the youngest professor in our faculty and I'd seen girls swoon over him. I had never seen Professor Adrian before so I was really pumped to see him.

‘Whatever you do, don't make eye contact’. My mind replayed the words of one of the seniors in my department. ‘What was so wrong about making eye contact with Adrian Vance anyways?’. I said to myself as I walked into the class and took my seat.

It was taking forever for him to come so I decided to put on my headphones and listen to music. I don't know how long I had been listening to music but I felt a tap on my shoulder.

I lifted up the right side of my headphones and noticed the whole class staring at me like I had done something wrong. When I looked at my left side I saw him.

Professor Adrian Vance. Apparently he had walked into the class ten minutes ago. His tall, broad figure loomed over me as my eyes met his burning gaze.

I see why my senior had warned against eye contact. I flashed him a nervous grin as I took off my head phones and set them down on the table.

‘That was extremely awkward and embarrassing’ I said to myself as I tried to focus on what Professor Adrian was saying, but I couldn't.

I felt another tap on my shoulder again and when I turned to look Professor Adrian was staring at me. I had spaced out in the middle of his speech.

“What's your name young lady” Professor Adrian said as he leaned on the desk behind him.

“ Lily Carter”

“ Would you mind repeating what I just told the class”

Oh no. I was not listening to anything he said. I considered it as just nonsense formalities that wouldn't matter. But now the while class was staring at me expectantly.

“ I actually don't know what you said” I said as I gave a nervous chuckle.

“You see everyone, this is why I talk about attention so much. How are you going to survive this semester Miss Carter when you're not listening.”

The whole class once again turned to look at me as my face burned hot with embarrassment. I glanced at Professor Adrian from the corner of my eyes and he was grinning.

‘Did he find my humiliation amusing?’ I asked myself as he continued to address the class like nothing had happened. I checked my phone and it was just thirty minutes left till break time.

I was going to make the most of my thirty minutes by paying attention. But it just seemed impossible. I kept spacing out and daydreaming about lunch.

‘ I should have listened to Kayla and had breakfast’. I said as I doodled in my note book.

I was so relieved when the class was over. I waited for most people to file out before I got up. Professor Adrian stood at the foot of the class as he watched us move out.

On my way out, I shot him a glance and he was laughing. He really found my embarrassment amusing, but I could careless. I was starving.

I almost ran to the bakery on campus and Kayla was already seated there. She had ordered something for me.

I slid into the seat across from her as she stared at me in awe.

“ You're all sweaty,” Kayla said as she handed me a napkin.

“I sprinted down here.” I said as I stuffed my face with the food.

“ How was class?” Kayla asked as she flipped through her book.

I told her about Professor Adrian and what happened and she burst out laughing in my face.

“What?” I was almost confused.

“ You were daydreaming about lunch, after being embarrassed by your hot professor.” Kayla said, wiping a tear from her eye.

“ It's a coping mechanism”

“ Yes, a really bad one”

“How was your class?” I asked

“ I'm glad you asked. My professor is an old creep. He kept staring boys down whenever they interrupted him when he was helping a girl.”

“ Typical” I said.

“ Well I need to go to the library and meet someone.”

“ Someone?” I asked as a mischievous smile crawled up my lips.

“ Relax, it's just my mentor who's also my senior.”

“Interesting, have fun on your date”

Kayla glared at me before she walked out of the bakery.

I took out my phone and realised I was free for the rest of the day. I decided to head to my dorm and unpack. My roommate hadn't moved in yet so I wanted to clear up the place before she did.

When I got to my dorm I found the door open. My roommate was here. I stepped over the luggage blocking the door and I was immediately attacked with a hug.

“ Hi I'm Audrey Marshall, you must be Lily.”

Behind Audrey I spotted her parents. He looked so warm and happy.

“ Hi Audrey. It's nice to meet you too” I said as I pulled away from her hug.

Seems like she was done unpacking and her parents were about leaving but they looked somewhat hesitant.

“ Audrey baby don't forget to call when you're free okay?” Her mom said

“I won't mom”

“ And don't forget to go to church too” her dad added

“ I won't forget dad, I promise” Audery said as she ushered them out and closed the door behind them.

She let out a heavy sigh of relief as she changed from her elegant sundress to a crop top and a tight pair of boots shorts.

I couldn't help but laugh at the irony of it all.

“ My parents are overly religious but I'm not like that. I won't try to convert you, I promise.” Audrey said as she sat on her bed.

“ It's fine,” I said as I unpacked.

“ So do you have a fantasy about sleeping with your professor cause I do.” Audrey said as she stared at me.

‘This was going to be a long semester’ I said to myself as I laughed at her question.
