Chapter 2

Autor: Wooden
Natalie smiled and nodded. "Sure, but that would be too easy for you. Anne may be an old-fashioned person, but you can easily seduce her."

My heart slowly sank into my gut while anger simmered within me. I wanted nothing more than to burst out of the closet and tear them apart with my bare hands.

"What do you suggest then?" Justin asked.

Natalie turned around and planted herself on Justin's lap. "I also want you to dump her and make her beg you not to break up with her in front of everyone."

Justin smiled, asking, "Aren't the two of you best friends? You're being quite terrible right now."

Natalie scoffed. "I got sick of her following me around a long time ago."

"How will you reward me if I win the bet?" Justin asked, chuckling.

Natalie pinched his cheek, saying, "If you win, I'll stop chasing after your best friend, Chase. I'll also get together with you officially. But if you lose, you have to help me get together with Chase."

"Deal!"

My entire body trembled while tears streamed uncontrollably down my cheeks. Sadness and fury raged within me, making me feel incredibly uncomfortable. I was nearly overwhelmed with the urge to throw the closet door open and catch Natalie and Justin red-handed.

Suddenly, I felt a pair of warm and large hands cover my ears. The world went silent as the disgusting noises disappeared.

Was the man trying to help me? Regardless of his intentions, I could feel my heart calming down.

A few moments later, the man retracted his hands and opened the closet door.

I squinted against the sudden return of light. However, before I could react, the man gripped my wrist and said, "Let's go."

I finally snapped back to my senses when I was pulled into the next room. I looked up at the man and took in his tall and broad figure, handsome features, and cold and regal air.

I couldn't believe my eyes. It was Chase Grant, the genius of the School of Finance, Justin's best friend, and also the man whom Natalie wanted to get together with.

"You—"

I couldn't get another word out before Chase pressed his index finger to my lips. He then tilted his head slightly in the direction of the door, listening to any sounds beyond it.

As I stared at his reddened lips, I was suddenly reminded of how I had forcefully kissed him in the dark. My face burned as I recalled the softness of his lips.

"Alright. They're gone now," Chase declared in a magnetic voice.

My face had turned as red as a tomato. I stammered, "I'm sorry about what happened earlier, but thank you. I—"

I sniffled when I thought about what had transpired earlier. In the end, I couldn't hold back my tears.

"I'm sorry. I must be having an allergic reaction to the scent of the closet. I'm definitely not crying because of those two scumbags," I explained while wiping the tears from my eyes.

Chase lowered his gaze and glanced at me before nodding lightly. "You should be grateful that you found out about them sooner rather than later."

As I carefully studied his expression, I realized that there wasn't a hint of disdain in his eyes. I couldn't help but feel touched at the realization.

As I thought back to what else had transpired between the two of us, I hung my head in embarrassment before saying, "The wine I fed you had been spiked. If you get sick, I'll cover your hospital bills."

Chase immediately rejected my offer, seeming to be opposed to the idea of visiting the hospital despite what had happened to him. "No need. I'll be fine after taking a shower."

I nodded quickly. I was about to leave when Chase asked, "What about you?"

"I only swallowed a little. I should be fine," I replied while curling my toes. "I should get a cab and leave before those two scumbags come back."

A long silence descended upon the room. I looked up. When I made eye contact with Chase, he turned his head away stiffly. His earlobes had turned pink.

"Okay then."

He then turned around and entered his bedroom. A few moments later, the sound of running water echoed through the room.

I sank onto the couch and tapped on a ride-hailing app.

It was raining heavily outside. On top of that, the concert nearby had just ended. No one was accepting my request.

I felt like crying again. I was incredibly upset. I was also feeling parched from all the tears I had shed.

I looked at the canned drinks on the coffee table before padding over to the bedroom door and asking carefully, "Can I have one of your drinks?"

A long moment passed before a muffled voice echoed from the bathroom. "Sure."

Assuming that they were energy drinks, I took a large gulp from one of the cans, only to realize that it was actually alcohol.

Chase grabbed Justin by the collar. His voice was filled with disdain when he said, "I'll accept being punched by you as thanks for sending Anne to my side. In fact, I'll let you in on a secret. I was actually plotting how to steal her away from you."But I wouldn't have been able to pull off my plan so smoothly if you weren't such a despicable person."Justin was breathing heavily. He was about to swing his fist at Chase again when he spotted me stepping out of the elevator.Chase followed Justin's line of sight and averted his gaze when he saw me.Unwilling to give up, Justin yelled, "He's not a good man, Anne! He was lusting after you even when you were still my girlfriend!"I approached them and got Chase to release Justin's collar. The disappointment was clear on Chase's face while Justin's eyes lit up with hope. However, in the next second, I laced my fingers with Chase's as if it were the most natural thing in the world. I smiled, saying, "Let's go. Although he's a weakli

Chase moved his lips close to my ear and murmured, "You have no idea how difficult it's been for me to hold back because I didn't want you to misunderstand my intentions."My face immediately heated up, making me feel like my head was on the verge of exploding. I hastily hugged him and buried my face against his neck.Chase kissed my ear and said, "You were shameless enough to tell someone else how big I am and how long I can last to his face. Why are you getting embarrassed now?"I couldn't believe what a tease Chase was being. Indignant, I raised my head, only for him to capture my lips.He only broke the kiss when I started struggling to breathe. He then flicked my forehead. "Don't tell me you don't know how to regulate your breathing? You're so silly."I was too dizzy to come up with a retort. I had no idea two people could kiss for that long. Feeling embarrassed, I hopped off the table, wanting to escape back to my dorm. However, Chase pulled me into his embrace and rested hi

However, after taking in Chase's cold and noble appearance, I also subconsciously became more reserved. I thought I would have to keep up this charade for a long time, but we ended up revealing our true characters much sooner than expected, thanks to a certain explosive incident. In fact, I had to thank Justin for unwittingly helping us in the situation.…I was completely caught off guard when Justin stopped me in front of the laboratory. After all, he hadn't looked for me at all, so I assumed that we wouldn't have anything to do with each other anymore. He looked exhausted, and he had lost quite a lot of weight."Let's stop fighting, Anne."I stared at him like he had lost his mind. Despite that, he didn't get angry at all. On the contrary, he sounded a little upset when he said, "Don't look at me like that. I can't bear it."He inhaled deeply before continuing, "I want to tell you that I've really fallen for you. I can't forget the way you looked at me that day when you kic

"He's so weak!" I exclaimed loudly.…I swiftly let go of Chase once we arrived at a deserted place. I then lowered my head and said apologetically, "I'm sorry for causing trouble for you. I shouldn't have gotten you involved in this mess."Chase didn't respond to my apology. My eyes strayed to his hands that were hanging loosely by his sides. Certain scenes started playing in my head when I stared at his defined fingers. My face started heating up.Feeling anxious and guilty, I raised my head.Chase was wearing a cold expression when he asked, "Is that so?"I hastily nodded as I recalled how he usually kept a respectable distance from all women. "I only said what I said to make those scumbags angry. If anyone asks me about it, I'll definitely tell them that we haven't spoken much and aren't close at all!"I even raised my hand to swear to him, wanting him to know that I would do everything in my power to draw a line between us.However, Chase's expression didn't soften like I

Natalie chuckled when she noticed the way my face twisted. She then smiled demurely at Chase and said, "Sorry, Chase. Anne and Justin are having a lovers' spat, and she's using you to piss off Justin."She walked over to Chase and tried to grab him. "You're just too perfect, Chase. Everyone wants you."Chase frowned before dodging Natalie's grasp in front of everyone. Then, he said, "Filthy."A deathly silence descended upon our surroundings once again. Some people started snickering when they noticed the gobsmacked expression on Natalie's face."How humiliating."Natalie's eyes reddened in an instant. Unwilling to see her look so upset, Justin pulled her behind him before addressing Chase in a displeased tone. "You crossed the line, Chase."However, Natalie didn't appreciate Justin's protection at all. She pushed him aside before looking at Chase with reddened and apologetic eyes. "I'm sorry. I forgot that you don't like people touching you because of your germophobia, Chase."

Justin studied me as I contemplated my choices. Although his voice was colored with helplessness, there was a flicker of disdain in his eyes. "Why do you have such a bad temper? Why don't you learn from Natalie? She's prettier than you, and she's good at comforting people."I couldn't believe that such an incredibly shameless man actually existed in this world."Why don't you look for her then? Would she even want you?" I retorted."What are you trying to say, Anne?" Justin asked. His expression turned steely."I'm calling you a bastard!" I exclaimed furiously. "She wouldn't want you even if you threw yourself at her feet!""Anne!"Natalie rushed toward us, looking like she wanted to play the mediator in our argument."You just forgot to do my work for me, that's all. Why are you losing your temper at everyone? Don't worry. I'm not going to hold it against you," she said as she stepped between me and Justin. "But I'll really get angry if you don't let me join your team."I coul
