Caius Winters

Sunlight stabbed through my eyelids like a bobby pin knife and I woke with a mouth full of Mara's red hair and Ronan's knee digging into my side.

“Garrh,” I coughed, and for a blissful, half-conscious moment, I forgot everything.

The scent of sweat and sex still clung to the rumpled sheets beneath me and a rueful smile spread on my lips when I imagined the Alpha’s outrage and indignation at how we had sullied his precious space.

Dante's massive bed looked like a battlefield—furs strewn everywhere, one of the silk hangings torn down where someone...probably me… had grabbed it during all the fucking.

Mara lay curled against Dante's empty space, her naked back a canvas of bite marks and love bruises.

Then I saw him.

Dante stood silhouetted in the arched window, already dressed in his warrior's leathers, the morning light gilding the scars across his knuckles as he turned something over in his hands. A letter. My stomach dropped.

"Up," he growled without turning.

Amara Eldwood"Caius!" The scream tore from my throat, raw and desperate. He didn’t hear me. Too far away.A beast lunged up from the outside for his flank, and my magic surged, a violet whip of energy lashing out without thought. The creature disintegrated mid-air, its howl cut short as it burst into a spatter of blood and brains, making some of the guards gasp.Caius’s head snapped up, his golden eyes locking onto mine. For a heartbeat, the battle around us stilled. Then another wave of monsters crested the wall, and he was gone, swallowed by the fray. "HEY! Wait up! Please! Take me up there, up the walls!" I grabbed Laziel’s arm, when he swooped down, my fingers digging into the hard muscle beneath his sleeve. His bronze eyes burned. "No." "You NEED me—" "You’re weak, Mar! Stop being so stubborn and just do as I’ve told you alright?" he snarled, shoving me toward a cluster of wounded warriors huddled near the barracks. "Help them. Stay alive." Then he was gone, le

  • Chosen By Four Alphas    blood witch, red witch

Amara EldwoodThe fire had burned low in Laziel’s chambers, casting long, trembling shadows across the smooth, glossy walls. The war general’s quarters was not at all the bling and hip i expected it to be.It looked reasonable and manly. With perfectly practical chestnut wood furnishings instead of the gold covered walls and plaques I had expected. There was something shiny and radiacal about him that made anyone feel at ease. Anyone that is me. I curled deeper into his lap, my cheek pressed against the steady thrum of his heartbeat and I smiled when he purred, pleased by my closeness.“Someone’s feeling better I see?” He tutted, like I was being naughty and my lips curved into a relaxed grin against his chest, a flicker of desire trailing down my back when his long tender hands dragged playfully through my hair. His scent—snakeskin and coffee grounds —filled my lungs, but it did little to calm the restless energy humming beneath my skin. His fingers trailed idly down my back, su

  • Chosen By Four Alphas    deadend fortress

Caius WintersMy back twisted in fury as I leaped from my horse, the impact of my boots hitting the gritty lot stones sending a jolt up my spine that rattled my teeth. The taste of retreat burned like bile in the back of my throat and it was all I could do not to sink my fist intk the reinforced concrete walls.“Fucking coward, coward, coward!” I screamed, sinking my fist intk the gates and wishing it had connected with one of those mangled things instead. The metal reverberated with the force of my blow, bowing under the pressure before throwing my weight back at me with such force that I staggered back, winded as sweat collided on the back of my neck. Each step we had taken away from those cursed woods felt like swallowing broken glass and grinding the shrapnel between my teeth.I'd spent my whole life pretending not to care, but this? This clawed at the lie I'd built. “Got that out of your system alright?” Dante growled, apparently unimpressed by my theatrics as he swung himself

Dante MilburnI wasn't much of a fan of puzzles, but even Ronan agreed that there was something wrong with the one I was string head-on at.If the Commander was dead according to Laziel’s words, then who the hell had sent those messages? There was a rag hiding in the bushes. A rat with poisoned fangs. The hinges of the towering fortress’ blessed iron gates screamed like dying men as the large bouldering metal lifted, the drawbridge lowering with a screaming thud.I tightened my grip on the reins, feeling my horse’s muscles twitch beneath me. Midnight… named after my father’s horse. Also deceased. The azure light of the dawn opening up in the sky hadn't yet touched the darkness looming beyond the wide mouth of the fortress gates. It hadn't penetrated the dark mist for years now. When was the last time we’d rode out into the darkness like this?“Ready?” Ronan called at my side, his sharp hazel eyes swooping down to flicker over my stiffened form on the horse before switching over to Ca

  • Chosen By Four Alphas    beast lover

Amara EldwoodLaziel’s bare feet left no sound on the stone as he moved, all coiled muscle and restless energy. Moonlight through the high windows caught the silver in his hair, the hard line of his jaw clenched tight enough to crack bone. He wore only loose black trousers, the scars across his torso gleaming like pale rivers over the landscape of his body. I froze in the doorway, my fingers still curled around the iron handle. I didn't realize he would still be here.Laziel turned mid-stride, his nostrils flaring as the wind from the opened door carried my scent to him. His silver eyes—always so cold, so distant—widened. The change in him was instantaneous. Every muscle locked. His pupils swallowed the irises whole, leaving only a ring of molten mercury around black. "Mara?" His voice was rougher than I'd ever heard it. Behind him, near the hearth, Dante turned from the window. The goblet in his hand hit the floor with a clatter that echoed like a gunshot. I saw the exact m
