A blood-covered sword, blood dripping down my legs, chains that burned, and cold green eyes. A touch I didn’t want, a broken promise, and cold metal at my back. I woke up with a strangled cry, and the sheet dropped down around my waist as I sat up in bed. The dream was already forgotten, but the emotion still raw. My heart still bled from something I couldn’t remember.

It felt as if my soul had been sucked from my body and my heart torn from my chest. I gulped for air as if a hand were still wrapped around my neck, and goosebumps broke out along my arms as a ghost kissed down my chest. A shiver ran down my back as I tried to shake off the feeling.

I wrapped my arms around myself protectively, my fingers trembling, and slid them up my chest. My brows furrowed, and I squeezed my eyes tight as I clung desperately to the fragments of my nightmare.
