Ava

When Avery and I were growing up, sometimes we played a little too roughly. I used to think it was all jokes until I realized that it was Avery’s way of punishing me for being the family member she never wanted. The last one? She had pushed me off the roof of the tree house we used to play in as soon as our parents were out of sight. I had survived many bruises and a broken arm and in the next two weeks, I had nightmares from the crash so vivid that they could still be felt.

It was the first time I had seen them. Some were dark green and others bright orange leaves, mother had said there were miracle herbs and they would help with my nightmares . I hadn’t believed her at first. She had given me some sort of potion that tasted like nothing on Earth, but when it worked, it made me feel safe enough to go to sleep.

Now looking out from the Lycan King's window, I had spotted a few of those same familiar herbs, growing beside the walls near his window.

How had I never seen them before

Leon“Can I come in?” Edna's voice ran from behind the door and I opened it to her smiling face. “Leo… I mean Your Majesty, you didn't come down for dinner” she began, her smile dropping when she noticed my mood. Her eyes took in a look of concern around my face that was quickly replaced by a small frown. “I am not hungry Edna, I have things to attend to” I replied with no emotion in my voice. I knew this conversation wouldn't end well if I let her talk about how angry I must be, and I could feel the anger begin to rise up inside me. Edna wasn't the kind of woman who would stop talking once she had started. “Are you still angry at the Queen Mother and me, Your Majesty? We were only trying to look out for you” She tried to explain, but my tone cut her off immediately. “If only you would have not tried hard to make decisions for me ” I spat the words out before Edna could continue speaking, she froze in place. The look on her face seemed surprised, like she couldn't believe what

AvaI fell on the bed once I had gone back to my room, I felt sick and worn out, the unceasing banging in my head had increased and I just wanted to disappear. The day had been exhausting but it couldn’t get much more than this, as I lay there with closed eyes trying desperately to not think about anything and everything at once. It was like a nightmare that wouldn’t leave me alone. Taking in my environment again, I knew it was pointless. I didn't have anything on me. There was no point being here, I’d leave.I passed through the large living room and it seemed Edna, and the Queen mother were waiting for me to leave. No one acted as if they had seen me and I didn't mind, I didn't want to hear any word full of so much venom, I didn't think I could survive it. “I’ll take the offer ma, show me the hidden passage” She led me down the hallway and took a dark path, she didn't stop until we were outside.“GO AND NEVER COME BACK” Her voice held finality. As I made it outside, the cool breez

AvaI almost scoffed at her. What did she think the Lycan King was? a trophy that she could claim at any time? even trophies had competitors not like I was one.“Okay” I told her, she could have him back, I didn’t even know where I belonged.I think she was looking for a fight because my response had gotten her riled up.“You think you are smart huh?” What was she? a five year old?“Look I am not interested in whatever you want, he might be my mate, true. Moreover he isn’t a thing that you toss around and get whenever, he’s an actual person and I think he’s old enough to decide” I yanked my hand off her grip. I hope I wasn’t defensive, I was trying to be neutral. “Unbelievable!”She snarled at me, like she couldn’t believe her ears with a priceless expression on her face and stalked away to a corner of the garden. Her arms crossed over her chest and she was muttering something about my stupidity.“And you bite, Mother was right, how many façades do you have?” His voice rang behind me.

AvaThe next morning, I was ordered to come down for breakfast. It took all the strength in me. I suddenly felt weak and unable to face the King. Yesterday after that new woman arrived, I was restless. It was as if she had taken the little sanity I was holding onto. I wanted to know who she was, why were they talking almost intimately like old lovers? I was still unsure about going, but disobedience meant dealing with the king's wrath. After summoning all the courage I could, I went down for breakfast and this time I was not confused on what turn to take. The Queen mother seemed surprised to see me. I greeted her even though the Lycab King mumbled a response, she did not. That same unfamiliar face sat on the table. I got to look at her properly. She was blond with warm grey eyes that danced with mischief, straight nose, a few freckles here and there and lips that made you think they were too perfect. She was beautiful.“And you are?” She asked. Not again! I mentally groaned.“Ava” I s

Ava“I want new books,” I told him.He didn't respond, instead, he acted like I was invincible.“Edward, are you alright?” I tried to touch him but he kept his distance from me as if there was something physically wrong with me. I stood there confused and angry for a minute or so before the words spilled out of my mouth.“Why won't you talk to me?” He looked down and away.“His Majesty asked that I shouldn't and I am not trying to lose my job.” He glared at me, like a wounded animal that needed a bandage.“This is ridiculous…” I shook my head in disbelief. “You know what… fine.. go ahead and do whatever it takes to prove yourself”He nodded silently and walked away without another word. I watched him leave, I was angry at the Lycan King.I began to match to where I knew I would find the king, his room.“I want to see the King” His Beta stared at me as if I was mad, which I most likely was. But I couldn't care less, I was desperate. “He is busy. Maybe I can pass on your messa

Leon“What are we going to do about her?” Mother’s voice was strained and tight as she paced back and forth in front of the large mahogany table that dominated the living room.“What are we going to do about who?” I asked, glancing up from where I sat at the table.“About Ava, she needs to be gone, send her away son” Mother replied in a voice that made it clear that she didn’t appreciate my questioning her on the matter. “Weve been through this already mother, I wouldn't be sending her away” My tone held finality with just enough anger behind it to make sure my statement was final.Mother spun around to face me, “Why? What has changed? Haven't you noticed how everything has been terrible since she arrived? She is a bad omen ! A curse” The fury in Mothers voice made the hairs on the back of my neck stand straight up. The room suddenly felt colder than usual.“Ava is not a bad omen mother” I said softly. It was more of a demand now then a simple statement of fact.“I can smell it i
