Chapter 6: The Billionaire Divorce

At this point, Mr. Williams looks even angrier at his son. Gordon's divorce from the Joyner lady means that the economic union between the two sides has ended. This makes Mr. Williams extremely frustrated and angry every time he sees his eldest son.

Gordon does not expect Sophia to want to end things so quickly. Gordon ignores Mr. Williams' rage and George Williams' gloating. He pushes open the door and steps out, while his father shouts:

"Damn it! Are you going to deny the responsibility to the Williams family because of your extravagance and stupidity? Gordon, from when are you going to grow up, or at least be as sensible as your brother?"

Gordon closes his eyes tightly, and his hands clenched into fists. His father constantly compares him to George Williams, a man who, in his eyes, is completely fake and vile, hiding under the guise of useless, weak, and docile. However, Gordon does not look back at the mansion for another second, despite his father screaming behind him. Because what Gordon cares about right now is the reason why Sophia wants a divorce.

She once knelt at his feet, begging his forgiveness as soon as he found out she was having an affair. Gordon is asking Brian Broadman to investigate the other man. Once he knows that man's identity, he will give Sophia and her mistress a painful blow.

Unexpectedly, Gordon Williams has not yet made a move, Sophia Joyner was determined to divorce him. This makes Gordon extremely skeptical. He knows that the Williams family and the Joyner family collaborate on many projects. Sophia also has a stake in The Joyner Group. Moreover, as legally husband and wife, Sophia Joyner and Gordon Williams owned lots of common property during their time together.

Wait! Common property?

Gordon Williams feels his head start to hurt like hell. He suddenly thinks of something, and his heart is a little hesitant. When thinking about the motive that made Sophia Joyner determined to divorce him, Gordon could only think of one thing: To share the common property!

Yes, Sophia definitely wants to share the Williams estate, especially the Williams Gems Corporation. However, the two families are collaborating on many projects, and even cross-ownership exists; why does the Joyner family want to end their cooperation so quickly? Just because Sophia Joyner had an affair? This reason does not seem convincing.

Gordon Williams sits down on the padded chair in his office, rubbing his temples with his hands. His scalp suddenly tenses up, he feels the headache attack him again. Gordon relaxes with a cup of tea, waits for himself to calm down, then contacts Brian Broadman:

“Brian, I'm suspecting the Joyners are up to something behind my dodgy old dad's back. That's right! You know, I don't get to manage all of the Williams Gems properties and projects. Chances are, my dopey old dad made some mistake and got screwed by the Joyners.”

"You want to investigate, don't you, sir?" Brian Broadman asks slowly and receives Gordon's confirmation. He continues, “Boss, investigating these files is not easy. Moreover, the projects that Mr. Williams directly worked on were secret, possibly involving a few government officials. Tell me, how can I get any information from these things ?"

“You got the point and you must do this job well!” Gordon asserted: “I hired you because of your ability in this aspect, don’t you remember? Also, if you can't do it, then write a resignation letter and leave it on my desk tomorrow morning!"

Gordon's words are not condescending, causing Brian Broadman to sweat for a moment. Who doesn't know that he is poor and loves money as his life, and wants him to quit his job at the largest corporation in the country? In your dream!

Brian is disgruntled with Gordon's extravagance and stubbornness, but there's no denying that anyone in his boss's situation would do the same. Having worked as an assistant to Gordon Williams for a long time, Brian is used to his boss's behavior. He just sighs in frustration for a moment, then gets to work.

At this time, in his private mansion, Gordon Williams begins to rummage through his laptop, where there is data that Brian Broadman collected about Karen Goodwill. For some reason, Gordon Williams is now always curious and interested in Karen Goodwill. In his eyes, the present world he lives in is extremely dark, and Karen Goodwill appears like a thorny, resilient, strong rose that rises in the midst of barren land.

Gordon Williams once had thought of using his ambiguous relationship with Karen Goodwill to anger Sophia Joyner. It seems that he probably does not need to do so in the future because Karen Goodwill will never cooperate with him. Moreover, unlike what Gordon thought, it turns out that what Sophia Joyner cares about is not their feelings, but the Williams family's property.

Gordon Williams looks at Karen Goodwill's beaming face in this picture with a flower pot. The sunlight shines on her angelic-beautiful face, making Gordon Williams feel much more comfortable and at ease.

Gordon Williams thinks for a moment, then picks up the phone and dials an unknown number. At the other end of the line, a female voice sounds, carrying a little indifference:

“Hello. This is Karen Goodwill. How can I help you?”

"It's me, Karen!" Gordon smiles and whispers into the phone: “Can I buy you a meal to make up for what happened the other day? The thing is, my wife, she was so aggressive and hurt you."

Recognizing Gordon Williams' voice, Karen Goodwill is completely unwilling to answer. She still can not forget what happened at the bar and at the restaurant that day. She spends the night with him again, and he is still in a marital relationship with Sophia Joyner. Karen Goodwill absolutely does not want to get involved with these people.

"Do not disturb me anymore!" Karen coldly says, "I've been in too much trouble."

“I just want to apologize to you and talk to you like old friends. Can't we be friends?" Gordon speaks with the utmost patience.
