Chapter 5: The Williams

Gordon Williams chases Karen Goodwill to the door of the restaurant and stops. Brian Broadman has been investigating Karen Goodwill in recent years, so he soon has on his hand not only her whereabouts and flower shop but also her phone number and email address.

Gordon Williams chases her partly out of instinct, partly because he wants to get revenge on Sophia Joyner and hide from the news-hungry reporters that hover like vultures.

Gordon Williams still has some emotions about the previous incident after returning to his mansion. He pours himself a glass of whiskey, leisurely walks to the window, and looks at the colorful garden in the villa grounds.

Gordon Williams used to have a forest of beauties around; each of them looked exactly like those colorful flowers out there. But Karen Goodwill seems to be the most gorgeous and unique one.

A flower with scent, color, and sharp thorns. How interesting!

Gordon Williams grins, opens his laptop, and looks at the information he received from his secretary Brian. Brian might look clumsy sometimes, but he is very effective. Whatever Gordon asked, he always did very well.

Especially with those related to women!

All of Karen Goodwill's information and schedules are saved on Gordon's computer. Gordon grins, imagining Karen's panicked expression when she sees him at her flower shop and the university she is attending, feeling extremely refreshed.

Moreover, thinking about Sophia Joyner's angry expression whenever he hangs around Karen Goodwill, Gordon Williams feels satisfied.

That Sunday night, Gordon returns to the Williams mansion to have dinner with his father and stepmother. As usual, his younger brother George Williams is also present. Seeing George's fake politeness, Gordon feels uncomfortable, a little nauseous.

No one understands George better than Gordon. He appears gentle and docile, mainly to be loved by Mr. Williams. However, in Gordon's eyes, George was truly mean and dirty. He looks exactly like his mother, who stepped into the relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Williams.

George Williams and his mother, Laura Williams, greet Gordon with a friendly smile. Meanwhile, Mr. Williams still uses a stern and prejudiced gaze to look at his eldest son. Gordon is not surprised, his father has never treated him as tenderly as he has treated George Williams.

“Gordon, you're back! I have prepared your favorite dishes. Let's have dinner!"

Gordon does not respond to Laura Williams' words but remains defiant and disobedient and goes into the kitchen. His attitude displeases Mr. Williams. Originally, he is also having a lot of dissatisfaction with him.

Sitting at the table, Mrs. Laura Williams knows how to please others; she constantly pushes delicious dishes and gives Gordon Williams the best part of the meal, not forgetting to look at him with affectionate eyes. But Gordon Williams completely ignores her.

“Gordon, check your attitude! Auntie is so enthusiastic, and instead of being arrogant like a brat, you should thank her."

Mr. Williams reminds him in a calm voice, but everyone can hear his disappointment and frustration with Gordon. Gordon does not care what he said, just nonchalantly replies:

“Oh, okay! Thank aunt Laura."

Gordon has never called Laura a mother. She is not a mother, not even qualified to be his stepmother to him. Gordon's words anger Mr. Williams even more. He looks at him with eyes filled with helplessness.

"Learn to be smart and reasonable from George, your brother."

Another comparison! Gordon hates being compared to others the most. Being compared to George Williams is also a fatal blow to him, making the anger in his heart can not be contained. Gordon jumps to his feet, looks at Mr. Williams with an angry look, and says:

“If you love George so much, let him stay by your side and run the corporation instead of me. As for Aunt Laura, I never have any sympathy for you, not even a little bit. So, don't try to be honest and kind. It's a total disgusting shame to me!"

As soon as Gordon finishes speaking, he receives a violent slap from Mr. Williams. He can accept that Gordon is rude to him, but he can't see him insulting Mrs. Laura. Mr. Williams' behavior has made Gordon malcontent since he was a child, and even now, although he is used to it, he never ceases to be angry and disgruntled.

“Bastard! How dare you treat Aunt Laura like that? Are you challenging me to let George take the reins of the corporation? All right, George, you're going to work at the Company tomorrow!"

George Williams is overjoyed, the ambition undisguised in his eyes. Meanwhile, Gordon just grins scornfully. He knows well the ability of this half-brother. Once George steps into the Williams Gems Corporation, Gordon will beat him up!

“Up to you, Father! I have nothing to say to this woman and her son. Even you, Father, if you continue to hold that discriminatory attitude towards me, then I will not come here for dinner on weekends anymore!"

"Come on, Gordon!" Mrs. Laura, with a troubled expression, pats Gordon and Mr. Williams: "We're a family, aren't we?"

"Family? So cheap and ridiculous!"

Gordon makes a mockery of Laura and hurries out the door. Mr. Williams is so angry that his face turns red and he starts to feel his chest ache. He shouts: “All of today's tragedies are from your wrong and inconsiderate way of life! Look, even Sophia, your wife, can't stand to ask for a divorce!"

Mr. Williams' words bring Gordon Williams to a halt. He turns his head to his father, looking at him like he doesn’t believe what he just said.

Divorce? Who's divorced? Isn't Sophia Joyner always acting softly in front of him ever since he found out she betrayed him? At this point, Gordon Williams' mind is a little dizzy, he can't believe Mr. Williams' words. Also, he is aware that his father has no reason to lie to him.

“What did you just say, Father? Sophia wants to divorce me?"

"Right! And it's all your fault!"
