Chapter 7: Like an old friend

Gordon Williams' voice was slightly sad, which made Karen Goodwill somewhat resentful. She realizes that Gordon might face something that makes him cogitate and feel unhappy with her sensitivity. Suddenly, hearing the warm and sad voice of Gordon Williams, Karen Goodwill has a little sympathy for him.

Karen Goodwill has encountered many unsatisfactory things in life; there were times when she wanted to give up everything and leave most peacefully. However, in this world, no one just lives alone for themselves. Relationships, responsibilities, and obligations are always placed on each person's shoulders, which holds them back and makes them unable to let go. Karen Goodwill talks to herself that maybe Gordon Williams is in a similar situation to her years ago.

"What's going on with you?" Karen Goodwill thinks for a long time, then blurts out a question.

“It can be seen as that. There is something that is not so important but also affects my life in some way.” Gordon Williams does not understand himself anymore. He wonders why he forces himself to act careless about his relationship with Sophia Joyner when talking to Karen Goodwill.

"But you have to make sure Mrs. Williams doesn't come bothering me!" Karen Goodwill calmly replies: “I'm not sure I can stand it anymore! Besides, I don't want to get into trouble between the two of you."

As soon as she finishes speaking, Karen Goodwill seems to find that she is contradicting herself. She does not want to meet Gordon Williams for fear of scandal and trouble. Also, she does not have the heart to refuse his offer. But there is no relationship between them except for the mistake the night before at the bar? At that time, both were so drunk that they could not control their consciousness and actions.

Alright, it's just like seeing an old friend again. The two of us are just going to have a meal and talk to each other. This is not dating or having an affair, so there is nothing to be afraid of. Karen Goodwill didn't do anything wrong; at least she does not intend to become Gordon Williams' mistress and get in the way of his relationship with Sophia Joyner.

By appointment, Gordon Williams goes to a not-so-popular college the following day to pick up Karen Goodwill. When he sees the rendezvous address, Gordon Williams is extremely surprised. He does not expect Karen Goodwill to return to school after five years of living as a baby sugar.

Five years is not too long, but it is enough to erode the will of many people, especially girls who use sex in exchange for money like Karen Goodwill used to be. Although, unexpectedly, she decides to go to university, continuing to fulfill her unfinished plan five years ago.

Gordon Williams still remembers why he never looked down on Karen Goodwill. Unlike other prostitutes, Karen Goodwill comes from a poor family, and she forced herself to become Gordon’s sugar baby to save her father's life. Karen Goodwill didn't seem to have a better choice at the time: either she entered college as a freshman with a bright future and abandoned her sick father, or she had to sacrifice everything to earn money fast and as much as she could to save her dying father. Karen Goodwill chose to sacrifice herself and put aside her ambition.

Gordon Williams and his shiny, luxury car attract many female students' eyes while waiting for Karen Goodwill at the university gate. Most of them are curious about the man behind the wheel, probably a rich guy in his thirties. Gordon Williams can see their eager eyes by how they look at him, but he does not care. The only thing that keeps him busy thinking is that Karen Goodwill never seems to look at him or his possessions with lustful eyes.

Gordon Williams lowers car windows a little to see the students inside the schoolyard. He suddenly realizes that Karen Goodwill is walking down the stairs with her school bag. Beside her is a young man about his age, with a kind and polite look. Gordon Williams subconsciously furrows his brows, leaning forward to look at the two of them. The young man is saying something interesting, causing Karen to smile nonstop. They talk happily while walking side by side, a sight that makes Gordon Williams not amused, if not somewhat jealous.

At this point, Gordon Williams does not have time to explain his feelings. All he can see is how obnoxious the young man is when he makes Karen Goodwill laugh. Gordon Williams does not want to stay here and think about it carefully, or instead, he is extremely impatient, so he gets out of the car and rushes into the schoolyard.

Just as he has thought, the surrounding screams suddenly hit his ears as soon as he appears. The girls standing around the university campus couldn't help but scream. Gordon Williams is handsome as a prince, which he can tell, not to mention, he is a famous CEO, often appearing in magazines. However, all of these things can not prevent Gordon Williams from coming to Karen Goodwill and the other young man as his way of asserting "sovereignty".

Even though he has no "sovereignty" at all!

"Karen, it's time for our date!" Gordon Williams comes in front of Karen Goodwill and the young man, speaking in a spiteful voice.

Seeing Gordon Williams and hearing his voice, Karen Goodwill widens her eyes in surprise. At this time, Gordon Williams also sees the other young man's unexpected and surprised expression. There is also a fit of undeniable jealousy in his eyes. That made Gordon Williams gloat immensely.

"Karen, so this is your boyfriend?" The young man glances at Karen, eyes filled with uneasiness and jealousy. He is questioning her.

Facing Gordon Williams, Karen Goodwill looks awkwardly and confusedly at the young man walking with her, then explains:

"Jim, don't get me wrong, he's not my boyfriend!" Then Karen glares at Gordon with unfriendly eyes. Her eyebrows furrows tightly, she says in a disgruntled voice:

"Stop joking, it's not fun!"
