Arielle.

The next morning when I finally dragged myself out of bed, I already knew what I was going to do. I stood in front of the closet they had stuffed full last night with those stiff and dark and suffocating clothes and just stared.

Rows and rows of high collars, long skirts, buttoned up blouses that looked like they were meant to choke the very air out of me. Every piece was designed to smother who I was to flatten me into some empty shadow standing behind the Alpha.

I touched one of the dresses with my fingertips the fabric cool and smooth expensive for sure. It smelled faintly of something perfumed like it had been pressed and steamed a thousand times before landing here. My stomach turned.

These weren’t for me. They weren’t even clothes they were cages.

So I shut the closet doors and went for what I knew. My old black shirt, faded at the seams and the neckline stretched from too many washes. My black jeans was rough and worn but mine. I tied my red hair up into a messy kno

Arielle. The new driver showed up the next morning. He wasn’t the same one who had sneered at me before since Kael must have replaced him. The other one was punished not because of my dignity but because his pride has been bruised I guess. This one was younger all tall and broad like all of them, his face carved in stone and most importantly he didn’t say a single word to me. Not when he opened the car door and not when he started the engine and definitely not even when I fumbled with the seatbelt because my hands were shaking more than I wanted to admit. His silence was heavy but I was grateful for it. Silence was better than mockery. Silence meant I didn’t have to sit there and burn while someone told me to my face what I already knew that I was the bastard girl amd that I had somehow tricked the Alpha into this mess. The ride to the university felt both too long and too short. The windows of the sleek car reflected my pale face back at me and every time I tried to look away, my

Arielle. The morning already started sour. The kind of sour that clung to your skin even before you brushed your teeth. I had barely slept tossing and turning in that cold oversized bed that wasn’t mine with stiff sheets that smelt too clean and too new like they belonged to someone else’s life entirely. My old black shirt clung to me like a comfort blanket which was a small rebellion ans the only thing that reminded me I was still Arielle and not some doll locked away in the Alpha’s gilded cage. I looked exactly like who I was. A girl from the gutter, a bastard with no place in this shining marble palace. And maybe just maybe I preferred it that way. But apparently Kael did not.The moment he came back down the staircase, I felt his eyes spear me like knives. He was already standing there in the middle of the grand hall dressed sharp and severe and his aura filling every damn corner like a storm cloud waiting to break. His jaw tightened the second his gaze swept over me. I didn’t

Kael. I stormed out of the dining room with my jaw tight enough to crack. Each step echoed against the marble floor was loud and hollow like the anger pounding inside my skull. I didn’t stop until I slammed the study door shut behind me the sound rattling the shelves and making the windows hum. The silence that followed was thick choking almost broken only by the sound of my uneven breathing. I braced both hands against the edge of my desk and bowed my head, my shoulders rigid amd the veins in my arms throbbing. That woman!!! That infuriating and fucking reckless woman!!!She had stood there in front of me wearing those ragged clothes like she was daring me to hate her more. And when I told her what she was, she didn’t cower and didn’t even flinch. Sshe snapped back sharper than a whip, her words digging right under my skin. I won’t erase myself. That all the clothes were your taste not mine. That I don’t get to erase her identity just because she carried my child. The nerve. The

Arielle. That night I was finally starting to feel like I could breathe again after the day I had. I had eaten at the ridiculously long dining table then I had listened to Kael’s cold words about food and doctors and all the rest and I had come back to my room thinking maybe just maybe, I could lie down and let the silence cover me. I wasn’t expecting peace at least not in this house but at least I thought the walls would leave me alone. Of course I was wrong. The door slammed open so hard that the handle smacked against the wall with a crack. I jumped where I sat on the edge of the bed. My heart raced because for a second I thought it was Kael himself storming in like he always did ready to scold or accuse or whatever mood he was in. But no it wasn’t him this time. It was worse in a quieter and crueler way.A group of women barged into the room and I mean three of them all dressed in neat uniforms with little pins at their collars the kind of look that screamed “I serve the Alpha

Kael. The office felt heavier that night maybe because I had been carrying the weight of too many thoughts. I had come here thinking work would steady me bury me under contracts and invoices and reports that had no dimples or glowing hair in them only numbers and profit. But when I pushed the tall door open, the familiar scent hit me before I even saw him.“Finally decided to come back huh?”Thomas’s voice was lazy but sharp rolling out from where he sat sprawled on the leather couch like he owned the place. His boots were on my table his jacket thrown carelessly over the armrest and in his hand was a crystal glass of whiskey that gleamed in the dim light. He had aged since I last saw him but only in the way men like us age and that’s just tougher around the edges witj sharper in the eyes but the same cocky smirk still plastered on his face.“Get your damn boots off my table.” I muttered heading straight for the liquor cart.“Missed you too Alpha.” He chuckled but didn’t move.I pou
