Chapter 10

Lana's POV

I felt like he had already known more than enough about what was going on in my life.

I mean, I know we're now married, and he's the one helping out with everything, but it's still my life.

And the fact remains that he's still a stranger to me.

So I stepped away from him a little.

Just about four steps away, I also didn't want him to think anything was wrong.

I knew he could find out if he wanted to, but it's just better that I leave things how they were.

“Okay,” I said softly, trying my hardest not to give out any more than I already had.

Then I ended the call. The moment I raised my head, my eyes met his.

He still hadn't moved an inch from where he was standing, watching how a predator watched its prey.

Just savoring his chase.

“Leaving already??” His voice was smooth as velvet but there was still that depth underneath.

“Yeah, I need to get back. Blue says it's important”. I replied, then I grabbed my purse and headed for the door.

I didn't need any reason to make me stay back.

But before my legs could cross the threshold of his office door, he grabbed my hands and in one swift motion I was already looking at him.

He placed a kiss lightly on my lips.

But his next words were what formed butterflies in my belly.

“When all this is over, pack a bag. We'll need a few days alone on my island far from here. Just you and me”.

I was left speechless once more.

It's how he knows how to take my breath away without effort.

His breathless whispers alone were enough to make me more than wet.

And now with a promise of luxury??

I could literally squirt here and now for him.

When he had brought me closer to him, I expected another series of threats from him.

However, I suppose being his wife had its own privileges as well.

I nodded, too flustered to even look at him.

I felt shy because the thought that went through my head was beyond what was going on at that point.

And with that, I left.

As I walked out of the building, I noticed the way people stared, their eyes filled with questions.

Maybe they expected that I'd walk out the same way I came in.

A scared girl who walked with her face bent downwards in embarrassment together with flushed cheeks through those doors minutes ago.

But no.

Right now, I feel alive again.

I felt myself again.

Like I was in control of my life once more.

I felt like I had power which I actually did.

Like girlll…

I just fucking married the undefeated Adrian.

The thoughts of everything clouded my mind, so I didn't notice the walking figure in front of me that I bumped into.

“HEY!!!! BE CAREFUL.” The angry monstrous voice sounded.

But within that depth, it still sounded familiar.

I knew that voice was familiar.

I just knew.

The moment I turned around to apologize, I saw him.

The one monster I had been praying never to cross paths with again.

Or Should I say…

The person I have been praying to meet since the beginning of all this.

I had questions.

I needed answers.

What did I do so wrong?

You not only destroyed my career, but you destroyed my life too.

But no matter how heavy these questions kept weighing on me I also didn't want to see him.

I didn't want him to see this ruined part of me.

I didn't want him to know how low he reduced me. How much of a ridicule he made me become.

Looking at those brown eyes that once made me feel butterflies in my belly but now look distant and undeniably familiar, I felt nothing but rage.

It swept through me that it took everything in me not to walk up to him and give him a dirty slap.

There wasn't even a sign of remorse in those eyes.

Because the way he looked at me in the most condescending manner ever, I wouldn't even wish that on a foe.

His gaze dragged slowly over me from my head to my toes.

Like he was mocking me.

But I still stood there wanting to hear what he had to say.

Maybe this was the closure I needed after all.

Slowly a lazy smirk formed on his lips.

“Well, well….. look at you.” He drawled, with his voice dripping with cruel venom.

I could swear that I never saw this part of him while we dated.

A prideful wicked motherfucker.

“I always knew you were a leech,” he continued. “Trying to attach to someone powerful like me again? I mean, so this is how much of a hoe you've turned out to be”.

The insult was sharp. Calculated.

I would have shrunk or cried if I had met him earlier probably minutes before meeting Adrian.

But not anymore.

Instead, I let out a small laugh as I took a step closer.

Very slow and unbothered, I walked in front of him.

Close not enough to touch him, but enough to invade his space the same way he had invaded mine.

“Hoe?” I repeated lightly. “ Maybe I wouldn't have turned one if you didn't destroy my career just to feel powerful”.

His jaw tightened.

I guess he was surprised and at the same time angry that I could talk back to him.

But I continued, in my silk but lethal tone.

“ You didn't reduce me. You exposed yourself. And guess what” I asked him. “ I've built a life you could have never done for me”.

My eyes flicked over him deliberately.

“My man doesn't need to break women to feel big. Unlike you” I scoffed and took one step back ready to walk away.

But just to give one final blow, I said the last thing that could come up in my head “work on your damaged self. Psycho”

And with that, I turned around ready to walk away

But I knew he wouldn't just let me go like that

“I'll find him and destroy him. And trust me I'd use every resource I have. You just watch”.

I couldn't help but smile at the words “He fucks better than you ever did”. And I walked away into the Mercedes-Benz S-Class that was waiting for me.
