LOGINI ran from my father’s abuse and straight into the hands of a Mafia Godfather. My life has been a living nightmare for the past 10 years, abused by my stepmother, ignored by my father, and constantly taunted by my stepsister, I was finally being sold off as a bargaining chip to the city's most feared Godfather. Desperate for freedom, I made a reckless bargain with a breathtaking stranger at a club. I married him the same night, thinking his name on a certificate would invalidate my forced marriage and finally give me a chance to get back at my family. I got my revenge. I humiliated my father in front of the entire mafia underworld. But when my fake husband stepped up to claim me, the room went silent. He wasn't a nobody. He was Don Dante Cavaliere. The man I was supposed to be marrying. Now, I’m locked in his mansion. I hate him for tricking me. I want to kill him for owning me. But the closer I get to him, the more his dark, protective walls start to feel like what l needed all along. My body betraying me is the easy part but his enemies are cycling us, my past is intertwined to his, my stepsister wants everything that l have and l'm not sure we'll survive everything stacked against us.

"I can’t believe I let you convince me into doing this," Anita said as we kept on running. "If this is my last day of freedom, then I’m going to make the most of it," I said, waving my hand for a taxi. "Come on, live a little," I added, pulling her into the cab. "Can you please take us to Club Felicidad?" I’d never been there, but it was the hottest club in town. "So your big plan is going to a club? Really? Do you understand that our fathers are going to kill us?" my cousin Anita asked. "Well, they’re already organizing my funeral tomorrow, so I guess it shouldn’t be much of a problem to them." "Who knows? Maybe your marriage could turn out like our parents' and you’d be happy," she said. I looked at her. "Do you really think that our parents are happy? Because the fact that they accepted their reality doesn’t mean that our mothers are happy. They are nothing but pawns for our parents to display in front of people, and they’ve been trained to be submissive just like they do to us. But I refuse to let that happen to me." I was just twenty and had been arranged to marry some mafia godfather who was known for his cruelty. People trembled in fear, including my father when they talked about him because he killed ten men alone just to get revenge for his father’s death. He’d been married two times before, and all his wives had just disappeared. And I was supposed to be okay with marrying him. "We’re here," she said. I hadn't even noticed that the taxi had stopped because I was lost in my thoughts. They honestly didn’t lie about this club, it looked fancy even from the outside. "Your IDs, please," the bouncer said. We handed him our fake IDs. It wasn't hard to get hold of one in our world because we were the mafia. "I regret agreeing to this" Anita said. I pulled her by her arm, and we went straight to the bar. "Can you get us two martinis and some shots?" I said to the bartender. I sat down and looked around. "They are almost half-naked," she said, gesturing to the women around us. We honestly looked different from them, wearing jeans, crop tops, and heels, but you could tell us apart. That was all my father’s fault as well. The man had never allowed me to live my life on my terms, not to mention that you lose the desire to want to dress in a certain way when you’re always surrounded by lustful men who think that they can have anything they want. You always have to be extra careful not to make it seem like you wanted it. "I can’t get married tomorrow. I can’t marry this godfather," I said to her. "You know what happened the last time somebody ran from their fate. Sophia was killed, and they made sure that we were all there to witness it. I don’t want that to happen to you," Anita said. She was right. I couldn’t run. But I couldn't marry him, either, if I married him, I was as good as dead. "The wedding is in fourteen hours. What are you actually going to do? You can't just run away—the Cavaliere syndicate has eyes everywhere. They’ll track you to the ends of the earth." I slammed back the first shot, feeling the liquid burn down to my stomach. "I know," I said, leaning my elbows against the counter. "If I run, he finds me. If I stay, he owns me. The only way a man like Don Cavaliere lets a woman go is if she’s useless to him. Or..." I swallowed hard, the alcohol loosening the crazy, desperate thoughts I’d been keeping locked away. "Or if she’s already bound to someone else. A Don’s pride wouldn’t let him take another man’s claimed wife." "Are you insane?" Anita gasped, lowering her voice to a harsh whisper. "You think you can just magically find a husband before sunrise?" I groaned because I hate my life so much and I don't know where I'm supposed to get a husband in a few hours. “ I bet he is ugly and he has a big stomach scars all over his face which is why he doesn't want to meet me before our wedding day.” l said because it's quite strange that he insisted we do not meet before our wedding. “ I tried to ask around but everybody just keeps mentioning how scary he is so maybe you're right but maybe he is like a silver fox or at least ugly on the outside and handsome in the inside.” she said and we both laughed and I understand that she was trying to make me feel better. “ "It’s not just that he’s cruel," I muttered, my stomach turning as I held my glass tighter. "I’m twenty years old, Anita. He’s probably some old, decrepit monster who can barely walk, expecting me to warm his bed and produce his heirs. The thought of an old man touching me, using my body just because my father signed a piece of paper, makes me want to throw u-” I was about to say more when something caught my eye. There was a man on a private corner. He wasn't just handsome, he was dangerously and breathtakingly striking. Sharp jawline with dark stubble, broad shoulders that practically commanded the space around him, and a presence so imposing that it made the air around him feel thin. And he was looking at me. "Marcy?" Anita whispered, following my eyes. "Holy shit. Don't look now, but that guy looks like he wants you." I was basically gawking at him. He raised his glass up, winked at me, and then chugged it down. “ That guy looks like trouble," I said, turning back to take one more shot. I just wanted to drink my troubles away and forget about the fact that I'm getting married to a monster tomorrow but I could continuously feel his eyes on me even though I didn't want to look back and it was just making my whole body feel hot and my mind was just starting to entertain stupid thoughts. With my new alcohol courage, I decided to do something very stupid. Who wouldn’t appreciate a few dollars, especially when he wouldn't even have to do much to earn them? "Anita," I whispered, tightening my hands on the glass I was holding. "Yes?" "I have a plan," I said. I stood up before she could hold me back and walked up to him. "Can I help you, principessa?" he said with a thick Italian accent. "I need a husband today, right now. And you look like a man who wouldn’t mind making a bad decision and some fast cash."Marcella’s POVThe morning of the wedding came faster than I wanted it to.My face was still painful from my father’s slap, but I spent an extra half hour at my vanity using heavy concealer to cover up the redness just like I've done over the yearsl pulled out my duffel bag from under my bed. There's no coming back to this house after today. The moment I pulled out that marriage certificate and ruined his alliance in front of the entire mafia underworld, my father would either throw me out or try to kill me. Either way, I was leaving for good. I was finally going to be free.I packed only the things that actually mattered to me, which wasn't much. I packed a few clothes, but most importantly, I went for the small wooden lockbox hidden at the back of my closet. Inside were the only pieces of my mother I had left, a gold necklace anf her favorite silver ring, and a framed photograph of her smiling at the beach before she got sick.I held the photo frame with both hands, my hands gent
Marcella’s POVMy mind was a mess on the drive back.I couldn't even think straight after that kiss. I didn’t give him my name at the bar. How did he know it? Oh my god I'm being stupid of course he checked my name after I gave him my ID so it makes sense that he knows my name. I touched my lips, still feeling the heat of his touch, and l wonder how everything got so crazy so fast.We were just supposed to get married and do a fast transaction, how did I end up allowing him to kiss me and I didn't even get to ask him his bank details. When the car dropped me off near the back entrance of our compound, l snuck through the gates and crept inside through the side door, trying not to make a sound.Wait. How did his driver even know where I stay? Oh my god all of this is driving me crazy but I can't think about it right now. I quickly pulled out my phone and messaged Anita because I don't want her to be worried. I’m back home safe. Don’t worry.I walked up the stairs to my bedroom b
Marcella's Pov“Your terms.” l asked. When I was young when my stepmother always made it a point to remind me how stupid I am and I thought that she was just a hater but maybe she was right because this is probably the worst idea I've ever come up with."I don’t sign marriage papers in drive-thrus," he said. "Even though this happens to be a fake marriage, I would really like my first marriage to be a lot more than that. My car is outside, so we sign at my place."Before I could process what was even happening, he was ushering me toward the exit. I looked back to see Anita, who was staring at me with her mouth open, pleading with me not to do something crazy. I gave her a small nod to say trust me and let a stranger lead me away.I couldn’t even process everything that was happening. The next thing I knew, I was in a car, and then we were on a private elevator which led us into a penthouse overlooking the entire city. It was floor-to-ceiling glass with marble floors, and this place a
