Dominic’s POV

The office was too quiet for a Monday evening. The kind of silence that made the hairs on my arms stand up. I’d been reviewing the recent files footage of the last fundraiser, half-listening to music in my ear pods, when the feeling hit me.

It felt Off. Wrong and unsettling.

I leaned back in my chair, my eyes fixed on the paused frame on the monitor, Selene had been smiling politely in the conference. That smile never reached her eyes. But this wasn’t about old wounds. This was about something immediate. Something present.

I turned down the music and tapped the screen of my phone. Nothing from her. Not since this afternoon when she said had stormed off. I knew she was upset about the marriage deal but part of it was so I could have her close for Aria and maybe—just maybe for myself as well.

A sharp buzz lit up my desk. Enzo’s name flashed on the line. I snatched it up.

“Talk to me.”

“We just got a ping,” Enzo said, worried like he’d been running. “Miss Selene's phone sen

Dominic's POV I carried Aria out with blood on my hands. Not hers, never hers, but the men who’d thought they could touch her.She was weightless in my arms, her head buried against my chest, trusting, too trusting. The smell of iron still clung to my sleeves. Her tiny fingers curled against my shirt as if she knew it was over, that I’d come. And I had. For her. For Selene. I reached the car and felt something shift in my chest. Off and Wrong. The passenger door was open. Empty. She was gone. Selene was gone. The breath I took didn’t feel real. My grip tightened around Aria as I scanned the road, the tree line. No blood. No signs of struggle. Just… nothing. My jaw clenched hard. I set Aria gently on the back seat, covering her with the thin wool blanket I’d left earlier. She stirred, mumbling something soft and incoherent, still asleep. She didn’t need to see this. My phone buzzed in my pocket. One new message with no name. “If you want her alive, come to the Hartsfield shippin

Selene's POV For a second, I thought I was hallucinating. My body was already shaking from everything Adrian had done or almost done but seeing Lina walk through that door… it knocked the air out of me. Her hair was a mess, her face pale, eyes swollen. She looked nothing like the girl who used to twirl around in my room in high school, stealing my lipstick and whispering things into my ears. No, this woman was scared. And not of me. Of something else. “What… what the hell are you doing here?” My voice cracked as I pushed myself away from the corner of the room, gripping the edge of the wall for balance. Lina’s eyes darted behind her before shutting the door quickly and locking it. “There’s no time, Selene. You need to listen to me.” I scoffed. “Listen to you? After what you did to me?” “I know. I know what I did.” Her voice trembled. “And I regret it every single day. But this isn’t about the past right now. You need to get out of here.” I stared at her. “Why are you here, Lina

Selene POV As soon as I closed the message, the door burst open again without warning. Two men stepped in, those same brutes who had shoved me into the car, their expressions stiff, like machines executing orders. My heart jumped as they approached. I stepped back instinctively, but there was nowhere left to go. “Get up,” one of them barked, gripping my arm without waiting for me to comply. “Don’t touch me—!” I snapped, jerking my arm back. It only earned me a tighter grip. They didn’t bother explaining. They dragged me down the hallway, past the walls and chandeliers that didn’t belong to any place I should be in. It looked more like a luxurious prison than a home, clean, expensive and suffocating. I was shoved into another room, and the door closed behind me with a loud click. And there he was. Adrian. Standing shirtless by a wide mirror, towel slung around his waist. His back was turned to me, his body glistening like he had just stepped out of the shower. Water dripped

Selene's POVForced in, the car sped through the highway like it had something to prove. The tires screeched every time the driver swerved past another vehicle, barely missing the side mirrors. My heart was still pounding from the moment they forced me in, and the man sitting beside me hadn't said a word. He didn’t need to. His silence spoke loud enough, this wasn’t a kidnapping for money. This was personal.I sat frozen, my eyes locked on the tinted window, trying to make sense of the trees and buildings rushing past. But nothing looked familiar. The city gave way to a wide stretch of countryside, and before long, we were pulling up to a large wrought iron gate. The car rolled to a stop as the gate opened on its own. The mansion that rose beyond it was massive, clean-lined, modern. It was too pristine, too polished. Nothing about it felt good. The man finally turned to me. His eyes were still hidden behind dark shades, but the smug lift at the corner of his mouth made my stomach turn

Selene’s POV The tires screamed against the wet asphalt as Dominic veered the car sharply past another intersection, barely missing a black sedan that honked furiously behind us. My hand gripped the door handle so tightly my knuckles turned white. "Dominic," I breathed, my voice barely holding steady, "slow down—" He didn’t answer. His jaw was clenched, eyes razor-focused on the road ahead. The wipers struggled to keep up with the downpour, and every time lightning cracked across the sky, it lit up his face—sharp angles and eyes that looked ready to kill.We weren’t just speeding, we were flying.Another sharp turn. The car tilted slightly, skidding before catching traction again. He handled it with terrifying precision, barely blinking. Not a single wasted movement. I stared at him, my heart pounding for more reasons than the speed. He looked like a man possessed. His phone buzzed against the dashboard. Without looking away from the road, he tapped the screen. A message

Selene’s POV Dominic’s phone rang again. He was still facing away from me, his shoulders tense, one hand clenched into a fist at his side. The other raised the phone to his ear. He didn’t speak at first. Then— “What?” The tone of his voice made my stomach knot. Sharp. Low. Cold. I stepped toward him, my heart thudding. His silence said more than words. “What is it?” I asked quietly, trying to steady my voice. He didn’t turn. He stood still for a moment, and then said something I couldn’t make out. His hand tightened around the phone, his knuckles pale. “What’s wrong?” I asked again, louder this time. He ended the call without answering me. His hand dropped to his side. “Dominic.” He turned. “She’s gone.” I blinked. “What?” He looked at me, expression flat. “Ariana’s been taken.” The words didn’t register at first. Then they hit all at once—like a slap, like the floor had been ripped out from under me. I stepped back, one hand against the wall to steady myself. “No… no, t

Selene’s POV I barely had time to blink before Dominic stalked toward me. His footsteps were steady, calculated. Cold. And yet, something about them made my breath catch. I backed away instinctively, my heels hitting the floor with soft thuds until my back pressed against the door. “Don’t,” I said, the word slipping out before I could stop it. He didn’t. His eyes didn’t leave mine, not even for a second. The space between us closed fast, and the warmth of his body melted into the fabric of my blazer. My heart beat faster too hard. “You shouldn’t be this close,” I whispered, my voice barely holding steady. He didn’t answer. Instead, he reached up and brushed his fingers over my cheek, slowly. His thumb moved under my jaw, lifting my chin just slightly until I had no choice but to look at him. “You don’t like anyone touching you,” he said, his voice low, almost too calm. “But you let me.” I swallowed, feeling the tremble in my own legs. “That doesn’t mean I want you to.”

Selene’s POV The car ride was quiet. Dominic hadn’t said much since he pulled me out of that restaurant. His hands were still gripping the steering wheel tightly, knuckles pale from the pressure. He was angry, but trying to stay calm. He glanced at me once. “Are you going to tell me why you went to meet your father?” he asked, his voice controlled. I didn’t respond. My arms were crossed over my chest, my gaze fixed on the passing city lights. I wasn’t ready to talk about it. Not with him. Not with anyone. “Selene,” he said again, more firmly this time. “I don’t want to talk about it,” I said quietly. “You almost walked into a setup,” he snapped. “You know that, right?” “I would have handled it.” “Handled it? There?.” He asked, a ridiculous look on his face. That made me look at him. “I didn’t think you’d come.” He gave a short, humorless laugh. “I saw your beep from one of my men, you never beep me. That’s all I needed to know something was off.” I looked away a
