“Roman—“ Tessa gasped, stumbling back. “What’s happening?”

“She’s having a heart attack,” Roman said, voice tight, raw with fear. He scooped Nandini into his arms, her weight heavier than he expected, her face pale and strained.

“Liam, get the car ready— NOW!”

“But the storm—”

“DO IT!”

The family exploded into motion.

The lights flickered again.

Thunder shook the entire house.

He pushed through the doors, rain slapping his face, plastering hair across his eyes. One of Nandini’s arms draped over his shoulder, the other hung limply at her side.

Liam sprinted ahead, keys already in his hand, he ran across the gravel to the nearest Bentley.

He flung the back door open.

Salima ran after them, barefoot, sari clinging to her legs.

“Move!” she screamed at Liam. “Let me in the back with her!”

Roman laid Nandini across the leather seat.

Davin stared at the man in front of him, his gaze sweeping over his brown-skinned torso once again.“So… what’s the explanation for that?” Davin asked. “You’re as fresh as the day, yet I have a video of a knife going through you.”Arjun looked at him, his spine straightening.“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he murmured.Davin sighed. “Look, Arjun… I’m not here for you. But I am looking for someone else—and I know you’re working with them.”“Once again,” Arjun said, unyielding, “I have no idea what you’re saying. I have nothing to hide.”“Okay,” Davin said evenly. “Then you won’t mind me taking you in for questioning.”Arjun exhaled—and before Davin could blink, he bolted.“Hey—!” Davin lunged forward, instinct kicking in as Arjun shoved past him and tore down the narrow hallway.“Stop!” Davin barked, already chasing him.Arjun didn’t look back.He took the stairs two at a time, bare feet slapping hard against concrete, the sound echoing like gunshots in the stairwell.Davi

Davin walked into Roman’s office with a force that said he had done this too many times.Roman looked up the moment the footsteps stopped.“You’re here,” he said calmly.“And you shouldn’t be here,” Davin replied bluntly. “How did Salima even let you out of the house?”Roman leaned back slightly, his jaw tight. “Well, my mother is scared as hell, and frankly, I’m getting tired too. Just tell me you have something.”Davin exhaled through his nose. “So. Klara, huh?”“Yeah,” Roman said immediately. “She looked horrified the other day and I just—I know she can be a lot, but I could tell she was telling the truth.”“Well, she definitely was,” Davin said. “I checked the surveillance at the park. And I got a face.”Roman’s head snapped up. “A face?”“Yeah.” Davin's lips turned into a thin smile as he pulled his laptop from his briefcase and placed it on the desk between them. He sat across from Roman and turned the screen toward him.Roman pressed his lips together, teeth grinding as the vid

Klara didn’t look back. She bolted out of the park, her breath breaking in her throat, and tears kept blurring her vision. Her legs barely kept up with her panic. Her heels felt heavy as she reached toward the main road. The tiny pointed edges clicked against the concrete.A cab slowed when she practically stumbled into the road, waving frantically.“Please please!” she begged as the window rolled down. “What is it Ma’am?” “Take me to—” she swallowed hard, “—the Blackwood mansion. Please.”The driver took one look at her trembling hands and tear–streaked face and unlocked the door.“Get in.”She climbed inside, still sobbing, still shaking. The car pulled away fast. Only then did she dare glance through the rear window. The masked figure stood at the edge of the park, watching the cab vanish down the street.Klara choked on a breath and curled into herself.“What happened?” The driver asked. “You look pretty shaken up.”“Please… just drive.” Klara said, still panting, “Just drive!”

Grayson’s headlights cut into the long driveway as he pulled up to the Thorne estate. The house looked too bright and too loud.He stepped inside to find the entire family already gathered in the living room.Liam sat on the arm of a couch while his wife — Cassandra sat on the sofa.Tension felt thick in the air. Eleanor stood rigid near the fireplace—commanding as always—while Klara stood in the centre of the room, hands clasped tightly in front of her, pale and speechless.“What’s going on here?” Grayson asked, cautiously.“Well, I could ask you the same thing, Grayson.” Eleanor forced a smirk. “What is going on here?”“Look, I don’t have time for this.” He said annoyed. “I’ve had enough surprises for one day.”“Well,” Eleanor snapped as soon as he said that, “imagine my surprise when I walk into my own house and find little Mrs Blackwood sitting in my living room with her legs crossed like she owns the place.”Klara didn’t speak. She barely breathed.Grayson frowned. “I thought I t

“What are you doing here?” Tessa breathed, her gaze flickering between Roman and Grayson.“I came to check on my brother,” Grayson replied smoothly. “Guess concern still looks suspicious on me.”“You need to leave now.” Tessa snapped.Roman shifted in the bed, pain etching briefly across his face before he masked it.“Tessa, what’s going on?” Roman asked. “Nothing. I’m just surprised to see him here.”Her eyes never left Grayson.Tessa swallowed, panic flashing through her as her gaze darted between them. Had Grayson said something?Roman shifted against the pillows. “Tessa… I was shot. Remember? I’m here too.”Her breath cracked as reality rushed back in. She hurried to his side, wrapping her arms around him, pressing a desperate kiss to his lips.Grayson rolled his eyes. “Can you two wrap this up already?”She pulled back slightly and leaned closer to Roman, whispering, “Did he tell you anything?”Roman studied her. “No. But is there something I should know?”“No,” she said quickly

Roman sat up straighter in the hospital bed, wincing as the movement pulled at the stitches in his side. His fingers tightened around the phone until his knuckles went pale.“A long story?” he repeated, voice low and edged with ice. “Good thing I’m stuck in this bed for the next twenty-four hours. I’ve got all the time in the world.”Davin swallowed hard on the other end of the line. “Yes, sir. I’ll get to you soon.”“Get here. Now.”Roman ended the call without waiting for a reply.“Let me guess,” Grayson said as he paced the courtyard, barely hiding a smirk. “He’s pissed.”Davin forced a tight smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “I’m sure you can find your way out now.”Grayson gave a slow nod, stepping out of the mansion. Moments later, the roar of his engine echoed as he sped away.Tessa stood just inside the living room, arms wrapped tightly around herself. She’d been watching through the half-open blinds, her heart pounding with every second Grayson lingered. She turned as Davin a
